wire working but wireless not?
Have you checked for firmware update on router? Also, try unplug the power for 1 min, then plug the power back in. If all else fails reset the router back to default settings, then do the install like it just came out of the box.

help needed to write a batch file that test ping
One problem you will run into. You can get destination host unreachable if your network gets a lot of traffic, or the machine you are pinging gets to many request. Also, some A/V programs will think you are a hacker doing DOS if it is non stop pinging. I have been using a program called "Is it up" to monitor cpu's and devices.

Setting up an internet cafe / LAN without server OS
You can use a program called "Windows Steady State" to restrict access, rights etc... Free download from MS. It can also be set to reset back to a deafult settings after reboot, Nice feature when running a internet cafe and people make changes or download files. But you will have to admin it on each cpu.

Home Domain Setup
First check the hardware requirements for 08. Your cpu may not meet them. Your laptop will connect to the router just as it has. No changes needed Your server should be network via cable, don't do wireless. Next the server or the router can do DHCP. Now for web and email. You will have to get static ip's from your ISP. Which means getting business class service. Will cost more. One more thing. You can look at MS home server. Has great back up and can give you access to files via the web.
