  1. whilst it does work on that hardware, i'd much prefer XP on that spec. vista should've been x64 only imo
  2. no i like vista, it's great but you get cack performance if you have under 2gb (superfetch can't spread it's wings) and less than two cores once you hit 4gb, and 2+ cores, vista really flies vlite is great, but vista does need decent hardware, fact!
  3. running vista on older hardware is pointless
  4. it's a good idea to disable antivirus when using nlite, it'll speed the whole process up, and make sure you've got plenty of hard drive space free
  5. use this instead http://www.tweak-uac.com/download/ keeps the protection, but 'allows' most tasks in silent mode, safer than disabling
  6. boot using a live linux disc, and replace the file with original (probably renamed to .old)
  7. they need to increase the max score now 5.9 is pretty easy to get
  8. rule of thumb. if you need to store X ammount of data, buy 2 drives, the size of X, one to store it, the other as a backup. and no, the Western Digital Black and RE3's are faster
  9. Need to fix a client's machine, format is the best thing for it it is currently working, but i need to know which files i need to replace on my disc, from their Windows folder. i think.. oembios files and get the key, and the two activation files. any other info guys? thanks. -i know how to rebuild a disc with nlite etc, so all i need to know is which files i need to replace
  10. you've gone wrong somewhere for a start. copy from the xp disc to C:\XPCD\ use that folder instead make sure it's a real xp disc, and not a manufacturer recovery disc (dell one would be ok though)
  11. it's not slipstreamed it's an addon, make a desktop shortcut before hand and read msfn to find out how to use $oem$ folders to place it in %userprofile%\Desktop
  12. did you use hotfixes and remove cat files i found that made prompts for USB mice, keyboard, storage devices so DON'T tick that and try again
  13. were the SP3 wireless network locator dependencies kept in the 'compatibility' mode for DHCP this time? any update on the x64 SP2 languages removals? -some were being left over
  14. the stage before this is where it copies from usb to hd. http://www.instantvista.com/image-files/vista-install-2.jpg how new/old is the hd?
  15. what read speeds do you usually get from it in HDtune? i get around 26-27mb/s from mine
  16. what vista setup does (and from dvd) is copies the files to your pc, then unpacks them
  17. i tested it today and it bombed through the first part of the install (the copying files section is the only part that is sped up)
