  1. I know thats a typo but it usually turns out being the reason I dont Dual boot.
  2. yeah robocopy rules the command line. i wish teracopy could be executed from command line without and install as easily as robocopy. if you want to replace the whole explorer shell, Dopus is awesome (though paying for it isnt) Messerschmitt, though vista copy dialogs are step in the right direction over XP, teracopy has more options when a file conflicts (overwrite, skip, all etc), can be set to always on top, can pause/resume during a transfer(even if interupted), and when copying more than 1 set to/from the same volume, teracopy will wait for the first to finish before starting the next set. Windows XP/Vista will just copy when told to even if it slows down the other transfers.
  3. what file(s) is it that spyware doctor is reporting as infected? that may help someone locate the source of the infection. Your host you are building the image with system is infected (the infection may may hidden from the host OS but still show up post install on the new OS -im not familiar with lyndra so i cant say either way) An update package you are adding to the OS with nlite is infected Spyware Doctor is reporting a false positive. this is apparently happening in those wonderful "Windows.XP._______.Edition.torrent" that plague IT people everywhere. the one thing that i know isnt the source of the problem is nLite. it does not produce this kind of problem.
  4. has anyone out there taken the plunge and installed it yet? (yes i know its not out there yet but there is a way to obtain it through windows update if you look for it) I have the servicing stack update showing in my WU but I wont install it on this machine until ive tested it on a fresh build. i know officially SP2 is just rollup package with search 4 and some other misc doodads but im curious to see if it improves performance over SP1 the way Sp1 did over RTM
  5. yeah the shortcut create by ZC install wont work unless you change it to "C:\Program Files\ZC2.10\zelda-w.exe" -res 640 480 big -fullscreen dunno if it has anything to do with non admin or not though.
  6. seriously, if dell wanted to hide a keylogger inside their laptops they wouldnt need to resort to the backyard mechanic hacked-a** method of adding a keylogger. theyd just integrate it into the MB inside an already present microchip and youd never know it was there. besides what possible reasons do you think a company like Dell (supposedly in conjunction with DHS) could possibly want from your laptop? They want to see your friends myspace profiles that are set to private - www.myspace.com<enter>snookiebut@gmail.com<tab>Password1<enter> = "General! We are in! Now you can make that skank pay for rejecting your friend request!" Billions in spending on "internet surveillance" and DHS still cant find a decent porn site. "Somebody get Micheal Dell on the phone! I have an needlessly elaborate scheme that will solve this problem!" Not content to be the #1 US PC manufacturer, Dell plans to take over all the tech bloggers keyboards in and effort to drive their competitors out of the market.
  7. DNF - Tired geek that cant take green on black long enough to check the 1000 checkboxes needed to get a score,
  8. Translation: Russian » English http://translate.google.com/translate_t# i still have no idea what hes asking. but perhaps someone familiar with WPI will recognize the question.
  9. Thats a good theory in practice. but the majority of the work I do i dont charge for (i charge businesses for work done on their terms/schedules, help individuals on my terms/schedule) if an individual gets taken by a software pirate con artist and they are not license savvy people its hard enough to get them to understand exactly how they have been taken but the instant I try and tell them they need to buy something that they think theyve already paid for, I become the bad guy. If the user has a valid OEM key and the install isnt the same type, its easier to just fix the problem than it is to explain it to a user that could try to turn the problem back on you. IF they are FCKGW'ed up but dont have a COA, I will usually ask them if they were invoiced for a copy of XP with their machine, if they were, its 1-800-RULEGIT time and that vendor gets reported. if not, then i recommend the 'legit kit' from the WGA site or an OEM license and a reinstall.
  10. AFAIK, the tool will not let you go from Pro to Home but it will let you go to VLK Pro to OEM/Retail Pro However, it doesnt always work. occasionally, the tool will tell you that it is "unable" to change the CDkey though it doesnt look like an error -it looks like its able but just unwilling to make the change.
  11. if you know the position itll be in you can refresh it to an anchor (page.htm#anchorname) but if the user scrolls, itll just scroll back to the same spot over and over and that prolly wouldnt work this page seems to have the answer though http://blogs.x2line.com/al/articles/156.aspx < html> < title>< /title> < head> < script language="javascript"> // function saves scroll position function fScroll(val) { var hidScroll = document.getElementById('hidScroll'); hidScroll.value = val.scrollTop; } // function moves scroll position to saved value function fScrollMove(what) { var hidScroll = document.getElementById('hidScroll'); document.getElementById(what).scrollTop = hidScroll.value; } < /script> < /head> < body onload="fScrollMove('div_scroll');" onunload="document.forms(0).submit()";> < form> < input type="text" id="hidScroll" name="a">< /br> < div id="div_scroll" onscroll="fScroll(this);" style="overflow:auto;height:100px;width:100px;"> .. VERY LONG TEXT GOES HERE < /div> < /form> < /body> < /html>
  12. Acer has burned me before. ive only had to get service on 3 of their machines and only got 1 fixed by them (wont go into details unless your curious) but that machine looks like the best youll find with that size screen.
  13. holy crap! i had forgotten how old pretty hate machine was (1989) -i had to look it up! i kept telling myself 'that was a nineties album' Final Score: 43 not bad considering i was born in '78
  14. my guess is you have a file named 'autorun.inf' on your c: drive that explorer is trying to execute instead of displaying the files. remove it and c: should open OK
  15. keep in mind that larger screen means harder to pack up and move and also means you wont be using it without the AC adapter for longer than a few minutes at a time. a lot of our people where im an admin will ask for a 17" model only to end up buying a 15 the next year and handing down their 17 to someone else
  16. we do not use or condone the use of rebuilt windows ISOs. we build our own (ones that are free of illegal cracks, and viruses) If you need help/support for a version of XP you downloaded from a torrent site, you are not welcome here. however, If you wish to make your own slimmed down version of XP for your own use, youve come to the right place -read the guide I linked earlier.
  17. theres also this page in the unattended guide http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/57/
  18. only Pro and Tablet are available as a volume license AFAIK
  19. lol i just saw this and headed back to MSFN to share it but youve beaten me to it. theme looks nice but seriously, how many shades of blue does MS really need?
  20. i think youre out of luck unless you can track down the original photographer. your best bet is to just use another image. better wallpapers here: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/downloads/date/any/ also there are a bunch of unreleased Vista wallpapers that didnt make it into Vista that are great http://blogs.msdn.com/mswanson/articles/wallpaper.aspx
  21. p.s: you are a software pirate. topic closed. please read the rules before posting again. http://www.msfn.org/board/Forum-Rules-Updated-Re-t18408.html
  22. please use the search feature. http://www.msfn.org/board/compiled-FAQ-and...966#entry785966
  23. I support using Vista whenever possible but id still have to vote for XP SP3 for that machine.
  24. best way to do this IMO would be load firefox portable then just stay signed in on the portable version. if i remember right the portable version can be configured to have a separate cache/cookies
