iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
@rikgale : I only took a very brief look at the GUI, doesn't really seem too different to the last version, but I have not played with it much yet. @canuckerfan: Gimme some time, I just downloaded it. But .... yeah, I have now got a version weighing in at aroung 10meg, that installs perfectly and works with the latest QT Alt . I just need to test more, and repackage properly. SP -
iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
I've taken a first look, unpacked it - it does install QT 7.0.2 (and that installer is 32 meg on its own ). This seems a bit of a rush job - there are still CVS tags and directories included in the archive also, and the layout looks rushed. I'll report back later SP -
Oh well, just as well I didn't have any plans for tonight downloading now, guess I'll break out orca again .... hopefully the size increase is not due to the new QT 7 - that may break the QT Alt SP

iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
Seems that either they have messed up writing the page, or the file size for standalone QT is 32MB! (OK, it is version 7, but WTF? )@rikgale : Thanks for the feedback - downloading iTunes v7 right now, see how much bloat I can kill from that, lol! Hopefully it is still compatible with QT alternative though, and doesn't require QT 7..... SP -
is it possible to UN slipstream?
seapagan replied to supadodger's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
When you slipstream, you actually overwrite files, change configuration files and more. There are generally no backups taken (unlike if you installed the SP over a working XP installation), so you are not going to be able to recover the original Gold or SP1 versions from a SP2 install or CD. You should still be able to benchmark the 2 that you have though. If you dont want to reinstall, just do the SP1 first, then install the SP2 upgrade on top of that installation. SP -
Like Evilvoice said - if you 7zip the its.exe, it will not work. From your its.cmd: start /wait its.exe /S /V"ISSETUPDRIVEN=0 ASSUME_MEDIA_DEFAULTS=1 ASSUME_QT_DEFAULTS=0 ALLUSERS=1 SILENT_INSTALL=1 /QN" This is looking for 'its.exe', not 'its.7z'. Basically, dont 7z up the 'its.exe' - put the original exe file into the archive with all the others files, archive the whole lot as 'its.7z', then run your makeinstall.cmd. (ie ignore steps 5 & 6) SP

iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
I have updated the guide for this installer (link in first post) to a quicker, simpler method. I also include the latest versions (2003 Platform SDK) of Orca and MsiDB, to save downloading the full SDK. As always, please let me know of any mistakes or errors in the guide. SP -
Aberdonian Scottish, which is a language probably closer to Klingon than English Also get by in French and Spanish, with a little bit of Brazillian Portuguese. Can order beer in about another 10 languages though (Sailor!) SP

It did use to print the whole screen, under MS-Dos (the real one, not the cmd that comes with XP ) and since this was a text screen running 80 chars by whatever, it was pretty efficient Also, there was no clipboard to use in them thar days .... SP

That's good info to know Xpect, bookmarked, thanks SP

Why did he reply? because he wanted to help obviously Generally problems like that with firefox are caused by bad extensions, so the advice from the past few posts was maybe useful to others, which is what this forum is about, no? This is not a good reply to give a guy on his first post, probably making it his last. And you never mentioned having no extensions. Oh yeah, if you dont need help, why post? SP

Here is a direct link to download the Installer SDK without having to download the whole SDK. This is from the older platform SDK, and is not the latest version, you need to get the 2003 SDK for that, but I have not found a link to download only the installer SDK yet. This version is pretty much the same though and has worked on all installers that I have found. If you go Here though, you have the option to download just parts of the 2003 SDK, or the full iso if you have the bandwidth. SP

Educated guess: No.I asked first and you tell me it doesn't matter... This magic line of code remove the undesired stuff from the file list: for /f "usebackq delims=: tokens=2" %%i IN (`expand -D data1.cab`) do echo%%i>>ard7.ddf Just in case you need full pathnames use this line instead: for /f "usebackq delims=: tokens=3" %%i IN (`expand -D c:\somepath\data1.cab`) do echo%%i>>ard7.ddf <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's what I was asking if there was avaliable - a program to automatically generate a ddf from a cab, obviously keeping the correct structure (directories and all). What I actually said was I had never see an installer where the ID mattered, not the directory structure. Anyway, I can generate the ddf by hand in those cases. I did understand what your code was trying to do, I was just confused because it did nothing to preserve the directory structure .... SP

iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
Well, that is your right, to use whatever you want, and what works for you. Personally, I have never had any problems with the recent builds of QT alternative, so my choice is to keep on using it SP -
Thanks for that example Nilfred. Will it also generate the required code in a ddf file to preserve the directory structure?SP

iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
OK, I finally got my head together and wrote out the procedure to create these installers - a link is at the head of the first post. If anything is unclear, or just plain wrong, please let me know either by PM or in this thread. SP. -
iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
You can install QT (or alternative) before or after installing iTunes, but QT must be installed before USING itunes. I use 'PodUtil' to download the songs from my iTunes - it is certainly the best one I have tried. It is shareware, but the unregistered version has full functionality to copy songs from your iPod. And, there is no chance that itunes will ever download songs from iPod to PC ... this is apple's way of limiting audio piracy, cant see that ever changing -
iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
I'll write up a procedure on how to modify the iTunes install today (hopefully ) @jonazz : Danish version uploaded, get it here . Again, this is a silent install version. @boardbabe : iTunes needs some form of QT installed even to run. I agree, it would be nice to have a version that does not, just to update the 'pod without needing media playing capability. Playing songs is the ipod's job anyway! SP -
iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
That's right, it's totally silent. It defaults to not making iTunes the default player also. SP -
@ Nilfred : Yeah, that would be a bit easier, not having to remove headers etc from the text file. For the 'ID' - some installers apparently use that, but I have not found one yet that setting the ID makes a difference. I would recommend checking out the cabsdk from microsoft for more details on the ddf format - however, I have not found any way to set the id from ddf file either. If you really need to do it, use cabarc after makecab to set the ID. Also, cabarc for me defaults to a '0' ID - you are saying that yours gives 25053? Different directories are often used to split compression types, but the list command will tell you these directories, then just build it into the ddf, as described in the docs. The difference in file size is probably due to the directory overhead in the first one. I am really looking for a program that will generate a ddf file from a cab! Is the new generated file working for you? Or is the Install crashing? SP

iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
@evilvoice : Agreed, there is no point in using the iTunes-only with a seperate QT, just use the standard iTunes. However, if you use my itunes-only install, and the QT alternative (as this package was designed for), its only 15Meg What size is the win 98 version of QT? The 'XP' ver from itunes is only 12 Meg. iTunes 4.9.0.17 silent with no quicktime
seapagan replied to seapagan's topic in Application Installs
Well, just download QT from the apple site here . I think there is a list of switches in this forum for a silent install too.On the other hand, you may want to go for the 'Quicktime Alternative' package. This is a third-party version, using the official QT codecs. You can find this here. If you run this with the command line '-MakeUnattended' it will start a wizard to make a silent version you can add to your CD. I prefer the alternative package personally, it seems a bit less obtrusive and resource heavy - the latest version is very good. [ Edit : I did not realise that it is impossible to get the latest version of QT without downloading iTunes also ... if anyone wants it, I can upload the QT 6.5.2.10 version taken from the itunes msi? It's about 12 meg, and already a silent install. ] SP -

@ironside : I have added a new mirror for the rar file (non rapidshare), and slightly modified the rar files to remove mention of installing QT. It's a new link for the rapidshare too. SP
