  1. Wait until I've done it first, but you're welcome One thing worth noting is that this requires QT ver 7.0.3 - I'll check to see if QT Alt supports this. Got it down to roughly the same size as I had ver 5.01, still got to track down the annoying attempt to install QT and it's done. I'll probably get it finished in a few hours when I get off shift. May throw in a localized ver of QT 7.03 a bit later as a bonus for those who dont like QT-alt Edit : Seems that QT-Alt 1.62 (the latest I can find) only has QT 7.0.2 . Guess we have to use the official version until the Alt gets updated. SP
  2. They're just doing this to annoy me! I'll download and take a look. Not much else to do here since the weather is so bad we are just bouncing around trying to stop everything hitting the deck.... Otherwise, I'm OK, thanks Yourself? Edit : 34Mb, well, not too much bigger than the last one! Lets see what size it really needs to be! SP
  3. You can use 'Quick Batch compiler' or similar to compile the batch file into a silent exe (use 'ghost' mode), so there will be no flash of the cmd box. However, in some cases this will not run on some systems (i think it has something to do with length of temp variable, though this may be fixed in latest versions). When I get a few minutes, I'm gonna finish my little util that runs batch files silently, having the same effect. SP.
  4. Actually, in 4.9 you can disable the downloads of podcasts (set it to manual, but not remove the link. iTunes 5 allows you to totally disable them, removing the link, by the use of the parental control functions. Ver 5 (5.01 certainly) also allows AAC to be recorded in vbr. I tend to use mp3 for all my tunes, so have not experimented with aac too much, and was not aware the size of media had increased with QT7. Infact, the only reason QT is on my machine is to alllow iTunes to run - dont use it for anything else. I need a bigger iPod too - 40Gb is just not enough SP.
  5. The podcasts can be disabled, and the links removed from iTunes, just using the options pages. Personally I havn't used them either, but maybe one day. It only takes me 2 minutes to walk down the stairs, pick up a coffee and be at work so I dont think I'll be able to justify downloading podcasts for that rikgale @Menedas: You seem to have very specific requirements (and obviously sensitive ears - I cant tell the difference between media _properly_ encoded at 192 and that at 256 personally), so go with what does it for you. There are better converters / cd rippers around than iTunes I am sure though. SP
  6. @oioldman: There is a small, not too obvious link on the same download page, I think it was called 'standalone' or similar, that allows you to download QT without iTunes. In fact, here it is SP
  7. Have you checked out Silence of the Foxes - that should do what you want. I use it to add all the xpi's I need to a silent firefox installer. SP
  8. Unfortunately, if I remember correctly, iTunes 5 requires you to use QT 7 (or the latest alternative, which is the same codecs). If you want to keep using a lesser version, maybe the only solution is to use iTunes 4.9, see my topic here if you want to download that version. The version there is QT-free, so you can still use the 6.5.2 you have installed. An other idea is to check the quality (bitrate) settings on iTunes encoding options, and choose a lower bitrate to get smaller files. SP
  9. You must have either Quicktime 7, or the Quicktime Alternative installed on your computer before trying to run iTunes - it will not work without one of them.My iTunes pack without quicktime is simply to allow people the choice of using the official QT or the alternative, as well as being only an english version. SP
  10. OK. Is your update file a single file installer (just an exe), or are there many files? (mst, msi, exe, ini etc etc). If you could post a list of the files, and the contents of the 'setup.ini' if you have one, I can maybe steer you in the right direction SP
  11. To install, just run the setup file included in the archive (I think it was called quicktimesetup.exe, or similar). This is a 'loud' installation not a silent one.As rikgale says, maybe give the QT alternative a try - that is what I personally use. I created my localized QT version at the request of evilvoice. The alternative uses exactly the same codecs etc as the 'official' verison, so is fully compatible. Regarding iTunes, you should not have to uninstall the older version first, but it wont hurt, you will not lose your library and settings. Same for QT. However, if you want to use the QT-Alternative it is better to uninstall the official QT first. Download the QT alternative Here. iTunes will still run if you uninstall QT official and then install QT-alt. SP
  12. No, you dont get it. If he had come out with a simple statement "hey, I cant wait to get IE Beta 2", no-one would have a problem. However, coming out in that first post like a 2-year-old with tourettes, and the same in further posts is the main problem here. And no, the only flaming here was from PaK. Yeah, people can use whatever browser they want, and people can also recommend whichever browser they want. Personally I dont like opera (even less than I like IE), but I dont care if others prefer it. And only one person mentioned firefox, hardly a crusade to take over your world. SP
  13. You may find quite a few files called 1033.mst since it is the standard name that installshield msi installers use to localize an installer to the English(US) language. Is this update the unmodified file that was downloaded from ubisoft, of have you backed up the files from the installer cache? You should have the mst mixed in with the update installer. If there is a setup.ini, check this for a path containing the hardcoded GUID (the big number you quote) and you can change that path to point to wherever you have the update, or remove the path altogether and it should take it from the same dir as the setup.exe / msi. The GUID is either the unique code for the original program, or for the patch. When they are cached after installing they are usually stored under a directory of the same name. otherwise, try running the msi directly using : msiexec /i <name of msi file> TRANSFORMS=1033.mstand see if that works. SP.
  14. /me agrees with Tarun. IE Beta is a closed beta, that is not for public. If Microsoft wanted to to have it PressAny, then you would have it already. Get over it, wait for it to be released and very soon your computer can be as insecure and bug ridden as you want And btw, many of the innovations in software, not to mention discovery and fixing of exploits in software (including your favourite browser) would not have happened without these 'criminal' crackers (prefer the term 'reverse engineer' myself though). Personally, I think Microsoft have shown initiative in allowing the group of people most likely to 'destruct test' their software properly an early view. Means it will probably be a better final product. Amused that you label crackers as crooks and not hackers though? Hacker damage tends to be more immediately expensive and destructive than cracking software .... Hell, I still wont use it though SP
  15. OK, uploaded the new archive, a little bit smaller than the last. I have changed to using 7z instead of rar files, cos that's what I prefer . WinRAR will also unpack this just fine. @rikgale: Yeah, technology can be useful at times - when I started this job we had only the VHF radio linked to a landline to use (but hey, there was no internet at that time anyway!), now we use a twin-dome sat system that gives us 512 Kbytes always-on, with 8 phone lines. Not too bad for bouncing around the worlds oceans! I have been contemplating some OU stuff too, would be nice to have at least 1 qualification to my name, lol. Was looking at network admin stuff for a start. @supernoob: Glad to be of help SP
  16. @rikgale: OSRL as in Oil Spill Response Ltd? Nah, never heard of it I am involved on the exploration side (seismic surveys), so we basically tell the oil companies where to drill, so they can then spill it everywhere @jeffc4442: The 2 files posted are the same version of iTunes 5.01, the only difference is that the version I post in the rar file is a standard installer (ie requires operator input) and then rikgale takes that and makes a 'silent' version that runs with no user intervention or visible display during installation. I have been working to get the original version down as small as possible (taking out quicktime, all non-english files etc - the original was 32Mb) and the next version I'll post is just making it a little smaller still. Hope that clears it up [Edit: ok rikgale, beat me to it, lol ] SP
  17. @jeffc4442: Thanks for the info link there. Seems bonjour is now integrated into itunes itself, instead of running as a standalone service - sneaky! They have modified it to be a bit more friendly to network configurations, but I'm not sure if I am happy that it exists. So basically, there is no way that we can have it not installed. @all: I've been a bit quiet recently, due to packing and preparing for work. Now back at work (bouncing around in the great weather we get in the middle of the north sea) so should be here more often. Got a new version of 5.01 to upload soon, which runs at about 7.5Mb. Basically, I changed the cab file so it is now uncompressed, and this then compresses much better in the silent installer. Tried to get an admin install working on this, but apple basically seem to have screwed up that part of the msi logic so it does not install properly. I'll upload it tonight after shift so rikgale can get a silent ver out SP
  18. Thanks rikgale, I'l update link on the first post with your silent installer. Not had time to look at the 1Mb size difference between 5.01 and 5 yet, but will 100% do today SP
  19. I have not really compared the two, I'm off out tonight so will take a proper look tomorrow. I hope so! I have never seen that error on installing iTunes, so hope it was just the mst.SP
  20. yeah, I was wondering about the 1mb difference myself. I'll see if I missed anything else there. Still not sure what the difference between 5 and 5.01 is. Edit : removed the offending file and directory and uploaded. Links in first post are good. SP
  21. Gah! the file.idt is the exported file table from the msi that I used to create the cab file, it should have been deleted before I uploaded it. The CVS folder was not in the last version cos I deleted it, but forgot it was there this time. Both can be deleted safely and are not needed for the install. I'll Update the rar and re-upload.@rikgale: If you are creating a silent version, could you do the same for that please? Sorry about that, and thanks for the info evilvoice SP
  22. Thanks rikgale, that would be great I have updated the link on main page to the QT-free, English-only 5.01. It seems that 'bonjour' is no longer included in this package, so the transform to disable it is not required. SP
  23. Glad it's working for you .... now go get 5.01 and do it again SP
