  1. Thanks canuckerfan, I'll start working on it tomorrow. Downloaded it, it's same packing as 5.0, so just unrar it and delete the quicktimeinstaller.exe. I'll post a reduced English-only ver tomorrow. Any idea what the changes were? SP
  2. @boardbabe: There is really no 'guide' yet for version 5, I'll finish it one of these days. Basically, to remove QT from the international version just unpack using WinRar, and delete the standalone quicktime installer exe (itunes installer will not complain it is missing). You can then package up the remaining files as a QT-less install however you choose. Remember to run the iTunes installer exe and not the msi. There is a post somewhere up in this thread where I mentioned this. The difference for the one I posted in the other topic is that all traces of any language other than english have been removed. I'll finish writing that method up and post it in the other topic, so you can make a Noggie one SP
  3. Everyone is basing this upon current technology, philosophy and knowledge. All of these concepts have changed over the past 50 years (or been proven just plain wrong in cases). Describe an X-box to someone of that era and they will give the same 'it aint possible' responses as for this topic. All knowledge evolves. Just because something is not possible by todays understanding of a problem does not mean that a new way of looking at a concept is not possible. Glad they finally found out the earth wasn't flat, or i'd have fallen off it years ago. Lets just wait 50 years more, look this thread up on an archive and see who was right (assuming of course that we are not all breeding slaves for a robot empire.) SP.
  4. [Edited to remove my sunday morning confusion] Sorry boardbabe, my misunderstanding, doh! This version is packed with winrar - look at the iTunes 5 topic to see. Basically, unpack with WinRar and erase the quicktime installer, thats all. (Did you d/l the standard international version or the Norwegian one?) Edit : the guide for iTunes 4.9 is no longer valid for 5, if you are using that, - I'll upload a specific one for v5 soon) SP
  5. Thanks for the feedback rikgale @evilvoice: any progress? SP
  6. @boardbabe: All the versions I have posted are 'complete' in that no functionality is lost. If you just remove the QT, you have a standard install. The version 5 I posted (english only though) is the same : totally complete, except this one is only english language. I'll post up the method in a few days (bit distracted right now) to modify the multi-language one to the language of your choice. Remember always to run the setup executable, not the msi directly - if you run the msi directly it will not install CD and ipod drivers - this has always been the same with iTunes, all the installation logic, control and dialogs are done in installscript, controlled be the setup exe not the msi. There are no files in temp, because there is nothing to unpack - it's already been done (the original installer puts files in %temp% so it can run them after extracting from the distribution archive). SP
  7. Looking at the changelogs on their site, it seems that differences between 4.23 and 4.26 beta is mostly bug fixes and language additions. They probably have comparable compression, or certainly not enough difference that you are going to notice in compressing the number of files you are talking about. If you are happy using beta software go for 4.26b, otherwise stay on 4.23. SP.
  8. Just tested it, clean system with QT7 (official) previously installed, and no problems. Ran it using the iTunesSetup.exe, with the killbonjour transform specified. Working great - just adding all my library again (40gig worth ... gah, time to get a bigger iPod!) So, not sure why it is not working for you evilvoice. You definately 100% used the iTunesSetup.exe and didnt run the msi directly? Is this on an installed system, or during an unattended unstall? SP
  9. I'll download the rar myself again, try it out. I've just reinstalled XP on one computer, so I'll try to install on there and see what happens. The rar file has been downloaded over 40 times from rapidshare and about te same from my server - anyone else have any problems? if so, please post! SP
  10. Not bad, from "are CPU's in the future going to be smarter than us all" to Telekenesis and Clairvoyance 'Reproducing' as you call it is not really a good example. To 'reproduce' a robot or computer could be done much easier by robotics that a human can - hell, how much manufacturing goes on these days by robots and computers? Lot easier to change a CPU than a heart. I believe, personally, that yes, at some unspecified point in the future computers could become more intelligent than their human creators. Why? Well, thinking about it from a different angle. How do Humans become knowledgable, intelligent, able to make mental connections, decisions, etc - they learn through experience and from our peers. We do something, make a connection, store that for the next time. This process happens from infant until you die. Why could the same not happen in AI? My first personal computer was in 1982 or therabouts - 1kb of memory, cpu slower than continental drift. Now? 1 million times the storage and similar to the speed. What will be possible in the 55 years that the original post mentioned? I've seen some incredible changes so far that I could never have even imagined in 82, bit arrogant to say you can imagine the state of technology in another 50 years. So, a sufficiently powerful CPU (call it the Paganium for example ), taught from manufacture, learning, allowed to develop - give me a good reason why that could not become intelligent by our standards? SP
  11. Just got it from the first post in that thread. The file is actually a Rar SFX. Just unpack it using winrar or similar. The installer has no silent options, but you could certainly write a batch or something to run all the hotfix files using the std switches found elsewhere (look at the unattended website) SP.
  12. The package itself will not be packed with upx, but the loader stub (the bit at the beginning of the file that reads the actual install data) probably is, this is where the confusion comes from. Try running the installer with the '/?' command line, see if it gives you any information. I cant download the package either, so cant look at it myself, until a proper d/l link is posted, sorry. SP.
  13. Not really sure what you are wanting here? If you want to install upx silently then just copy the upx.exe file to a path directory, it's standalone. If you want to run upx silently from another program, either use the '-q' flag and add ' > NUL' to the end of the command line (may still flash briefly a command prompt), or set the 'startupinfo.wShowWindow' to SW_HIDE, and the 'startupinfo.dwFlags' to STARTF_USESHOWWINDOW if you are using createprocess. Give us more info and maybe we can help more. SP
  14. Hmm. That normally only happens if the program was installed by running the msi directly, without using the setup program. Does this happen with the files in the rar also, or just the silent ones? I have not tried the silent ones personally. SP
  15. I just tested on a folder with about 32 Mb or assorted file types, then added 500Kb more. the 7z files were approx the same sizes. I'm using 7-Zip version 4.26 beta. SP
  16. This is just an off-the wall thought ... are you sure you are not including your original 'drivers.exe' in the new archives by mistake? The numbers you quote for filesizes are pretty close to multiples of the size you quoted for the drivers.exe..... Even changing the compression methods should not result in that much of a size increase. SP
  17. You're welcome It will work without the msiexec (generally) if you have no parameters, but it is always better to use the msiexec - maybe some system will not have the correct (or corrupted) file-associations (I know people that disable all assocs except for the critical ones) and so your installer would fail. SP
  18. It uses the Nullsoft installer, so, as said above you can do a silent install (unless the author has disabled it) using '/S'. however, this will not allow you to choose the language. There is no common way in NSIS to select the language from the command line - I would suggest you ask this in their forums at http://www.crystalxp.net/ for information. Maybe the author has not implemented a silent installation - for stuff like these shell packs, silent installations could screw your computer if used from an uA CD (maybe unless they are installed last) - remember, a reboot is compulsory after these. SP
  19. You cant apply a transform like that, you need to use 'msiexec' to run the msi file (good practice anyway). This should work (untested, I dont use AutoIt) Run ("msiexec.exe /i progA.msi TRANSFORMS=progA.mst /qr") SP
  20. @evilvoice: Yeah, I spotted that a few days ago, and changed the main page just b4 my adsl line died . I compared yours to my version and it seems that your 'quicktime.qtp' was corrupt, it was only 48k. I got a working version about the same size as yours (using an administrative install after I removed the languages), I'll upload it in a bit. I've also just about completed writing up the method to remove all these languages, I'll post it soon. Worked out a way to do it quite easily, better than my original method. Mind you, having no internet for a few days was very productive - started working on a programming project that I've been meaning to take on for quite a while now, and almost finished it SP
  21. Yeah, and they will probably release it tomorrow! Time to go play Everquest and take a break, I'm starting to dream in msi format SP.
  22. Thanks rikgale I'll do that now. I know the feeling - If I never see the itunes or QT install screens again, it will be too soon!! I'll put up a link to your first (including bonjour) installer, and one to the latest transform-based one. Hmm, if I never have to edit that first post again I will be happy too! SP
  23. @rikgale: This mst just changes the installer so that it still installs the service, but defaults it to disabled instead of auto, same as your batch. Thanks for the installers edit : @evilvoice: Thanks for that, I'll change the link on the main page. Downloading now, for my own use also. Now .... get to sleep! Think I may try to make my own 'alternative' install of QT, after all I have learned about the files. There is a lot there that I dont need. Another days project SP
  24. @evilvoice: OK, sleep well and thanks for the help. @all: I have posted a transform on the main page that will stop the 'Bonjour' service starting. Instructions for use are there also. @rikgale: You gonna put that in your silent version? - Be neater than a batch. SP
  25. @evilvoice: Good going. That is probably because 7z cannot really compress another compressed file (ie the internal cab). When you extract the files, it can then properly compress them. I tried this with iTunes too, and got the same problems you had, so didn't bother for QT. Guess I was wrong! lol. If you want to post that on rapidshare or whereever, I'll change the link on the first page. Thanks! SP
