  1. hehe Sorry, got confused by the other post hehe Nice work mate Regards, N.
  2. hehe No problemo (ignore my other post now) Regards, N.
  3. Ah ha.... I completely forgot about that Thanks tguy Nath
  4. yep yep yep.... I got the VLK version here at work (not from MSDN - and yes, bought legally hehe) and with the two server's I got at the time [HP Compaq Proliant ML350 G3], I use them with the SmartStart CD which turns it install into an automated install.... Of course, I cant just wipe the servers (ahhh the staff wont mind hehe) otherwise I'd try a XPCREATE with the 2003 VLK CD and see what happens.... well, if I ever have to, I'll try it ...[when I find the CD -left it somewhere hehe- , I'm gonna check for the EULA file. I'm sure its just a txt file that has to exist and exist in the exact same place as it is on the original cd]... Regards, N.
  5. You've probably already done this but its just a suggestion... Make sure you update 2000 to SP4 (or whatever the latset service pack is)....this may fix the problem but if not, then I can only suggest search the MS knowledgebase for an answer. (not too good on the different languages) Regards, N.
  6. Yep, the fundamental princible of having a network is security and a making sure users go through a firewall to access the net is highly important - for home or business Good work. With 2003, I can get the academic version (obviously) but I wonder if I could purchase the same version for home (after all, its the same thing in essence hehe) How come you didnt buy a Router with a firewall / ADSL modem built-in? (or the Cable equivelent if you have cable) This is how I've got it at home, although I'd love to be running a server with this also. One PC doesnt have any virus protection, as its more a "lan gaming pc" (old, but it works hehe) and my main pc has NIS 2004 running on it which is fine and contains all the important stuff anyway. The router has wireless capabilities (seems to do everything hehe) b/g styles which I'm only gonna use if I get the centrino laptop I'm hoping to get. Anyhow, I'll stop rambling now. Regards, Nath
  7. @chrno2004: Whoops...I forgot to mention that, well, you can use the VNcon program to view a list of all the computers on the network and also see who's logged on (tho the see who's logged on part may only work on a domain). knight_dkn covered it really by saying the best solution would be to use a server, then you could see the list of users etc on that. The snag that if jada855 went down this route, in order to have his client machines connect/logon to the server, he'd have to upgrade them all to XP Professional (the most substantial difference between Home & Pro is this difference) Either way, I hope it helps Regards, N.
  8. Be sure to check out the CWSshredder - its **** useful and sometimes, you'll run it on a machine that you didnt think had any sort of spyware infection and it tells you its removed some hehe http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html (and scroll down a bit) Even though the project is suspended, its a useful tool to have in your collection along with the other tools on that page. Regards, N.
  9. Take a look at RealVNC & VNCcon:http://www.realvnc.com/ - RealVNC - Freeware http://vncon.chronetal.co.uk/index.php?page=main - VNcon - Freeware (notice the SP2 aspect tho) Domain is not possible engraed96 as jada855 states that: You cannot log on to a domain using XP Home.... (unless I missed something somewhere hehe) Regards, N.
  10. Indeed...I was getting to that But as Wasim wasnt intending to use it as a DC or usage in a domain, it wasnt worth mentioning hehe Regards, N.
  11. Yep, thats probably best. Just read that there is a guide on the MSFN about setting win 2003 up as a workstation but couldnt find a link tho. Might be worth reading that Regards, N.
  12. You must all have good jobs to afford to buy server 2003 for use at home...I obviously dont get paid enough hehe hmmm.... Regards, N.
  13. ahhh you just want it as a workstation... I would say it might be best if you dont give it any server roles, maybe the file server one might be useful still (if you have other computers and have a local LAN setup) I'd wager it will hog resources have these services & server roles running and obviously you dont want that when you're using it as a workstation. Moreover, if you're gonna be surfing the net, all these additional services could be used by hackers & un-savy people so thats another big reason not to have the other roles installed and running. Give it a try and see if that helps you user problem too Regards, N.
  14. Not as far as I'm aware it isn't. It may look the same but there alot of differences between the two operating systems. All the best, Nath
  15. hmmm... Its a funny one this as I'm the only person here who maintains & runs the system so I've never needed anyone else to be able to logon to the server. One quick thought is that the new user would need sufficient rights to do so and would probably need to be in the Domain Admins group, if not the Administrators group.. But my thinking cap is on in case this dont help. Regards, N.
  16. I'd be interested in this one too... I looking at using Shuttle XPC's with no floppy/optical drives, and attaching a USB Floppy drive when I need to restore a image back on to each machine. These are locked away and extension leads are used so all that the users get is a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I'm interested in alternatives if anyone can suggest any hehe Regards, N.
  17. Not 100% sure what you mean here. Do you mean that the new user cannot log on to the server, or a client machine? Are you using Active Directory (AD) and also, what are the client machines that you are using? You need to give a bit more info please Regards N.
  18. um..... that isnt a link to dotnetfx. It appears to be a root certificate update (rootsupd.exe) Please remember to check what you post before you post it pls Regards, N.
  19. You can count me as "interested" too GM Regards, N.
  20. hehe Seems I beat you to it GM ...just Perhaps a sticky topic explaining that ppl should visit the website before they start posting questions and comments here might be useful as it seems ppl are always gonna venture here from other places without knowing or looking at the website first.....just an idea my friend N. Regards, N.
  21. I know GM. I was agreeing with you, I was apologising to him in case my post offended thats all Regards, N.
  22. You may want to visit each site and compare them for yourself hehe XPCREATE (if you look at the homepage, you'll see): That pretty much explains itself - as you can see, its goal is *not* to install third-party applications and/or drivers. I believe (although I dont know this for sure) some of the other "tools" you mentioned are intended for this purpose when installing XP. Regards, N.
  23. Yep...agreed. It didnt work wth me when I tried adding it to a fresh xpcreate install. (No offense to RyanVM that is ) Regards, N.
  24. I already assumed that jobbie - i just meant that i hadnt had a chance to do it yet. But thanks anyway. Regards, N.
