  1. Try looking up SysPrep in the MSFN forum... this is the OEM tool that is required to be run, prior to delivering the computer to the customer. It can reset the security ID's, Product Code/Key & more.... This is almost certainly what you need to research and learn how to use...I suggest trying it out on a test machine after you have installed XP the way you usually do in order to see how it works Good luck, Nathan.
  2. You are really asking this in the wrong place as this isn't a XPCREATE matter really....you'll find more info on this in the rest of the main forum...try searching for one thing and browse Here!! Regards, N.
  3. In short.... - You CANNOT create a unattended (or for that matter any modified XP CD) regardless of what version it is i.e. pro, home, oem, retail, vol, etc. for any other purpose than customising a install in your own establishment/company. - Further, supplying the same Product Key to more than one individual is illegal - You must supply the original CD AND C.O.A. (Certificate of Authenticity) and selling/supplying anyone with a customised CD of XP (within certain vol/SB exceptions) is illegal and Microsoft will NOT be happy bunnies. As a extremely small freelancing OEM, I custom-make a XP CD/network install, to ease the installation of XP on the customer machine and supply the customer with the affixed C.O.A, the original (hologrammed) CD & Info document with it (along with all the usual CD's - drivers for example). I'm not sure the legality of this, except if you're a Royalty OEM - I'm sure that is the requirement for this, no matter how hidden it is lol - but you can make a duplicate image in the "factory" so long as it is only used for replicating images on new machines and is set to re-generate the security ID's , etc. Also, another requirement is to System Preperation (Sysprep) the machine for delivery to the customer. Failure to do this means you are NOT complying with the SB agreement. Also (I think) is preinstalling SBSI (Step-By-Step-Interactive tutorial for XP) too, but this may vary from country to country. Don't think I've missed anything Regards, Nathan.
  4. You really should look through the site more before posting a topic thats been covered alot (tho can't blame you as its easy to get confused if you don't know what to do) Take a look at the following regarding S-ATA drivers listed: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=111410 and also look at the following post regarding Winnt.sif: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=117257 this may not completely cover it all but you need to know what you're doing really with regards to winnt.sif - for this you need to look at the main forum of MSFN and search for it if you don't know what it is as its not really to do with xpcreate except that you need to add a line into it if you want to include your drivers but please look at the other posts first. Also, if you haven't already done so, try creating it as simply as possible first so you know that it works before you try leaping in feet first by adding drivers Good luck & all the best, Nathan
  5. Funny enough....same happens with me. Can't remember if its just with creating on a CD-RW disc (yes, ERASEDISK=YES and DOCD=YES is in the .ini, plus I've erased the disc first anyway - just in case) Can't remember if its the same with just blank CD-R's but I usually just make it from the ISO's....never works on the CD-RW's anyway, so it could be the brand maybe or my DVD±RW. Regards, N.
  6. Maybe Microsoft need to update the engine behind Windows Update ...just a thought when msba was updated alot more recently than WU... N.
  7. Hi all Too true I get soo fed up of people that are supposed "experts" but at the end of the day, know virtually nothing (not that I'm saying in any way that I profess to know it all because I freely admit I don't) because of course, how can any 1 person know everything there is to know about IT & Networking....they can't is the simple truth. Try working in a retailer and see how many people profess to tell you your own job hehe (I've seen it so much and I only help the guy out on a saturday lol). Anyhow...I shall not rant anymore and its is soo nice to not see that "know-it-all" attitude here Lets hope it continues Regards to you all, N.
  8. Yep.... It is both one of the other forums here at MSFN and also in the opk.chm file....just wished I noticed it before I made this machine for a customer and spent ages installing everything on it lol Wish I could have found something to alter this AFTER I'd done all that but it don't work with the sysprep.inf ....ah well...its good enough Regards & thanks, Nath
  9. Just my two cents... The final / finished SP2 will feature Microsoft Installer v3.0 so as that will be different (but backwards compatitible of course) then maybe they will supply a different version of MSXML too!? PS Quick digression...is it possible to set up win xp so that the Documents and Settings folder appears on drive D (second hard drive) and when new users are created, they get created in the correct place i.e. D:\Documents and Settings\New User....... I'm only putting this as you mentioned cmdlines.txt again....can it be done through this by adding a .reg file? I dunno the reg setting that defines this tho Its what I was hoping to do with the xpcreate cd at the end you see Regards, N.
  10. Excellent Doh!...trying to catch you up in posts but its never gonna happen is it? ...now if I could just figure out CMDLINES.TXT...hmm.... N.
  11. The link to the post is above your post here GM But here is the direct link: http://corob.net/msjava/ Worked a treat for me - GrimSage, I'd use this too if I were you too (Remember to place it in the PRE folder, providing everything is correct) This too, is what I thought. Would there be a way of unpacking the MDAC 2.8 TYP (like in your IExpress tutorial on your site) but adding the files from the hotfix into it? Surely this way would create the package with the update included although then windows update might not detect it properly (tho our good friend MBSA might). Maybe this is for a different topic... Regards, Nathan
  12. *jumps up and down* Got any more going spare? I'll test it...I'll test it! N.
  13. Yeah....thats what I was 'trying' to say lol Regards, N.
  14. The 3 that GrimSage mentions here!?: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=131790 I only get the WMP message Maybe thats to be expected. Regards, Nathan PS Bear in mind, I've been working on the XP Home - shows it can be updated just as well as the Pro version (as there isn't much difference between them - but we all know that hehe)
  15. Well regarding: I would take a look at the link found on this post regarding Microsoft Java Machine:http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=122131 The link in this post will tell you the process of how to create a new package of it which works very nicely when placed in SVC-PRE folder I'll post my full directory of the folders & files later but it has worked like a treat Just haven't got MDAC 2.8 in there for some reason now I think of it. But its still great hehe Edit: Thats because I didn't add it. I was following the current hotfixes list to the letter (well, nearly hehe) but there is no entries in the DAS folder - this is where the mdac_typ.exe goes right GM? GM's "what goes where" page of the website says: but the current hotfixes says: Quick change there GM? Regards, N.
  16. Hi ziboy I think he means get rid of this file - dont use it - and carry on using js56nchs.exe as normal Regards, N.
  17. Hi GM I never got a chance last night to reply (to myself) in order to beat you too it GM but I was gonna reply that it works This is true, however, may as well have it all in the build I create so this is what I did.Strangely enough, I didn't check to see whether there was a Welsh version or not Anyhow, assumed that if you install one version, then you should install the hotfix for it: - V3 SP4 - install Hotfix - V4 SP2 - install its hotfix too MBSA doesn't report any missing hotfixes or updates in my "fully-unattended SATA installed windows XP Home build w/sysprep" (accidentally running right at the start as soon as you first see the desktop) except it does mention something to do with one of the Media Player 9 files being a different version to 'what is expected' - maybe because of the tweak for media player? This of course isn't connected to the internet so can't check windows update but my custom MBSA scan tells me what I need to know Thanks, Nathan
  18. Hi all Just a quick note on the MSXML hotfix. I'm about to add the "Hotfix for MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 - KB832414" hotfix (KB832414_MSXML4.0_x86.exe) in the DAH folder along with the MSXML V4 SP2 & MSXML V3 SP4 packages in the X2M folder. My question(s) are: - Do I need to include the MSXML V3 Update/hotfix as well (I'm gonna leave it there for now)? - Anyone know if this will work? Logically it makes sense but I dunno hehe If anyone can reply with any answers soon as pos as I haven't finished updating the build I'm about to make so if it isn't gonna work, i can save some time Regards, N.
  19. @GM: No problem....(u know i will hehe) ...when I get a chance - phew! have I been a busy guy this week or what hehe @Ryan: Good to know mate Regards, N.
  20. Alanoll - doesn't the xpcreate script look for both the uncompressed version (.inf) and the compressed version (.in_)? Just take look at you're log post again... you'll see this: and further down you have: so even tho you get that message, the files themselves would appear to have been copied so that it installs so I wouldn't worry. Have you tried testing the finished CD made from it? If so, on your target pc (the one you have installed the finished CD on) go to a flash site, and right-click a flash object to look at your version You'll be able to see if its worked that way Regards, N.
  21. I've had that before......haven't read this post properly (sorry) ...but have you got the latest version of both XPCREATE (27th April) & SWFLASH (My version is 7,0,19,0)? I believe that older/different versions of the SWFLASH.CAB may have different files inside it :S but I could be wrong. Mine also has the .inf file inside so perhaps you better check your version of XPCREATE The "Can't open input file: cdroot\i386\swflash.in_." is from an older version of XPCREATE when the swflash cab used to contain swflash.in_ instead of the uncompressed version ...er...right GM? Good luck. Regards, Nath
  22. Fair enuff gov N.
  23. Hi GM Its SP1a (I know - doesn't have the msjavu.exe part or something!?) Do I need to add it using a guide somewhere around here or is the hotfix you have listed enough? I dont dispute it...you're the boss Yep...**** Windows Catalog is rubbish...I've had trouble in the past finding hotfixes before with it. Search of the knowledge base I usually found it that way. Yep...will 'try' and remember this hehe regarding the customised msjavx86/msjavu package that someone somewhere in this forum mentions (link to a page on your site regarding it), where would this go? Sorry I'm being vauge...just busy at work and trying to reply to posts Regards, N.
  24. Whoops....didn't even notice it in the .ini last night. It was late after all. Many many thanks to you you scripting genius Regards, N.
  25. Hi all @ GM mainly Is there a way to alter the label of the CD to something other than 'XPCREATE'? I ask as I'm gonna be making various different builds (multiple copies of xpcreate) for my various tasks/requirements i.e. home oem...pro oem...pro vol... etc...but having a different label of produced CD would be greatly appreciated instead of them all named xpcreate. thanks, Nath
