  1. not 100% sure here but are you running XP SP2 and have you checked the motherboard manufacturer's website for info on it? The motherboard *may* need a BIOS update or it just might not support sizes of HD's that large. Cant say for sure... what motherboard (exact model) is it? Regards, N.
  2. I, myself, stick with MSI boards currently. Since the summer of 2003 I've had the MSI KT6 Delta FISR motherboard and like ninnox I've got the Kingston HyperX DDR400 512MB (to be exact, the product number is: KHX3200A/512) and its been a joy - at stock settings of the mobo, it flies compared to the rubbish i had before. I, also, have had a few problems with ASUS in the past and also, cheap Gigabyte mobo's (8 of the same model in seperate machines which all overheated and played up - no response from gigabyte for about 4 yrs now hehe) The best advice is to check out what your about to buy before you buy it (obvious i know and still not always full-proof but its always the best bet for getting the right stuff in this day and age of incompatible stuff) Also, you should have started this topic in the Hardware section of the forum Wai_Wai Regards, N.
  3. I second that - be very careful with this program - in fact, I'd say use it when everything else fails - you can complete mess up the IE engine in windows and, naturally, the rest of windows if you arent careful with it. As mentioned, try CWShredder, Spybot, Adware SE (see the personal download link further down the page) and SpywareBlaster & SpywareGuard from Javacool Software for the best protection and removal out there. If no luck with all that, then try the HiackThis prog. Remember to up date all of them before scanning as they *may* only be effective after this has been done. Good luck. N. P.S. Its good to remember that with the exception of Google/MSN/Yahoo/etc. toolbar's, that pretty much all "free" toolbar will most likely contain some sort of spyware or tracking methods in them.
  4. I can guess your from the uk Try 0845 090 2025 Its a free phone number for Windows XP SP2 "Lines are open 7 days a week from 8am until 9pm" If you have activated it, then your done There should be a option somewhere tho that allows you to activate windows by phone, and it will give you the number to call. Cant remember what the number is right now I'm afraid All the best, N.
  5. No problem - glad i could help shame the resulting filesize isnt as small as "other" possible way's that there are, but at least its a simple one to do Regards, N.
  6. Doesnt work on the latest version Astalavista - not the one I just tried (RealPlayer10-5GOLD) from their site today, although the -s does to skip the initial configuration bit. And like slipknotscott rightly says, using winzip (or in my case, winrar) to extract files from it doesnt work... ...all u get is one file called 920xxtmpxx.rfx which i havent been able to do anything with When installing, it unpacks to a temp directory... C:\ > Documents and settings > [your username] > Local Settings > temp > [some temp dir - look at time and date to find it] but on having a quick look, i cudn't find anything there of any real use. Any ideas anyone? Regards, N.

    need help

please post in the appropriate topic for your requeest. This has nothing to do with this section. Also, use the [search] tool at the top right of this page to search for things before posting. As I'm not trying to be nasty in saying all that, you might want to try the following areas of the forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=70&t=16709 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=28522 search before you post please dont worry - we all forget (well....i know i do at times ) Regards, N.
  8. Worked for me just now Automatically redirected me to the msi Maybe it was down at the time you tried it. Regards, N.
  9. Have a look at my post here if u want (yet) another way - using Iexpress http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=238846 I'm interested in the admin point to reduce the size tho It ended up being 30MB lol instead of 34MB (i.e. the files extracted in the setup folder) Regards, N
  10. Not sure if Frank_Sechrist meant it in this way, but if you want to create a automated install that shows progress as its installing, you can repackage it using IExpress. Its getting late here so i'll be quick.... - Download the full package and run it (as Frank_Sechrist mentioned) but dont continue to install it, so you can just get the unpacked files (usually C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 7.0\Setup... or something similar) and put the files in place of your choosing i.e. where you are going to make up the package from - Cancel the installation (u may have to click next once first) - [start] > [Run] - type iexpress and click [OK] - Follow the prompts and enter info as needed - but with the following additions: a] Package Purpose - option 1 - Extract files and run an installation command b] Packaged Files - [Add] the files from the place you put the extracted files c] Install Program to launch - put setup.exe /s /v"/qb" in the field where it says Install Program d] Package Name and Options - I've ticked the 2 options on this page as the msi file is a long filename so this package may not work with 95 as it stands e] Configure Restart - I've chosen No Restart here as typically I would be installing other apps after it Its worth saving the "SED" file so that you can come back to the installation if you want to alter the package or recreate it at a later date. I've used this successfully on Windows XP SP2 only a little while ago and it installed with no problems that I've fonud so far Note: I take no responsibility for any side effects that could happen from getting things wrong ...just so you know Regards, N.
  11. Also worth mentioning here is that if you arent careful in yor editing, you can rendered the whole thing unbootable which may or may not be fixable (dependant on your skills). Just a friendly note so edit carefully Regards, N.
  12. ...no fun lol
  13. No problem I hate it when that happens - thankfully, it very very rarely happens here (touch wood). Regards, N.
  14. Yep.... If they are actual hotfixes (the ones with no icon - best described elsewhere in the forum) and install like WindowsXP-KB885523-x86-enu.exe then yes, put them into the SVC-HF1 folder. You can see what they are (usually in most cases) by running them on your machine and see what happens - if you get a screen like the attached picture, then its a HF1-style hotfix - you can [Cancel] the hotfix if you dont want to install it on your machine that you are building a xpcreate distribution on, thus no harm done I could be wrong tho lol (just keep that in mind too lol) NOTE: CF1 & 2 doesnt exist yet as these folders are intended for the awaited new release. Regards, N.
  15. If i could currently access Microsoft's sites, I'd download it and tell you. I'd wager a guess that it could well be SVC-HF2 but in most cases for actual hotfixes, its SVC-HF1 Regards, Nath
  16. The hotfix list & automatic downloading of hotfixes is not working at the moment as GM is working on a new release that uses a different program and/or list definition. You will have to manually download the hotfixes yourself and place them in the particular directories. *REMEMBER* to use only the fail-safe from *here* The list is a bit outdated now but GM's a very busy guy of recent and hasnt had the chance to carry on development work with this (er....I believe - right GM? hehe) You'll find the following can be added to the list (as I remember): I cant remember if there's any more but no doubt a bit of browsing of the recent posts here in this section should help you find any others. Regards, N
  17. That sounds just like what I've been after :) RIS server tho - kinda missing that lol Regarding WinPE tho, OEM's can get hold of this - not saying where from (no, i'm not talking illegally here) but you can get it if you're an oem Its not just from Select licensing although i wonder if the version is slightly different...hmmm..... Despite that we get licenses from the county that has a Select Agreement, we have never been able to get any of the support or "utilities" (like WinPE) that go hand-in-hand with the Select Agreement. I'd love to be able to use this or a Ghost method without floppy/cd's i.e. PXE styley - except I'm not that "up" on that stuff and havent had the time to "play" in order to find out lol Any suggestions MilkyMagic? Regards, N.
  18. hmmmm I remember that (never tried it back then though) but have no idea... *takes a look* ....did u see the F.A.Q. section? Could that be the same thing then? This thing uses the IE engine in its standalone application so would appear so My two cents anyhow Regards, N.
  19. Egypt Star Trek or Stargate?
  20. Have you tried resetting the folder options as follows: Goto [start] > [settings] > [Folder Options] and then choose the [View] tab at the top of the window and choose the [Reset All Folders] button This should reset them to their defaults which should work, unless you have registry errors - www.ccleaner.com - may help you here (there are loads of other freeware registry fixer/cleaners out there) if not, then it could very well be spyware clogging things up - try Spybot combined with SpywareBlaster and one thats really good if its a CWS infection is CWShredder (choose the Download the stand-alone version of CWShredder link) Good luck and let us know how you get on Regards, N.
  21. ****.... wasnt quick enough to help with this one - **** GoGack is sooo annoying isnt it? I didnt realise you could alter/edit the C partition like that in order to "unhide" it GeneralMandible - one of the reasons it does it is to protect it from viruses and the like. hmmmmmm..... more like "helps them" hehe prathapml - I was under the impression that they've stopped supporting it for the past year - maybe longer. I wonder why.... lol Regards, N.
  22. Hi all I just want to point out that alot of ppl seemed to forget about what MtK was asking about. Notice the last bit hehe He wasnt refering to after windows is installed and then, later on, you want to set it to autologon. Good work kukris but there surely must be a simpler way ...er... right? (btw havent tried it yet myself kukris hehe) Regards, N.
  23. so......is it really all that good? Cheers, N.
  24. pc (of course lol) sprouts or carrots? (which do u prefer)
  25. If you look at GM's profile and then you will find a link so u can email him through the forum - there maybe somewhere to find his email address but i think its hidden to prevent spam & requests every 5 minutes. Regards, Nath. PS Welcome to MSFN
