  1. 7600 GS AGP... This seems to be the problem card in 9x... I've got a Gigabyte 7600 GS 256MB AGP passive cooled card. On my test PC, it runs properly in XP. But... 98SE on the same PC with 82.69 drivers, has missing triangles in DirectX games. Also some triangles have one point that is away in the wrong place - really weird effect! (I even tried 81.98 and 82.16 drivers with 82.69 INFs... - just crashes at video driver initialisation...) It does not seem to be random since I can navigate around this 'distorted' world! I've tested a number of games with the same result. 98SE is up to date with Auto-Patcher 98. Oddly, OpenGL games are okay!!! I will try another clean install of 98SE to confirm. Has anyone seen this problem with the 7600 GS AGP in 9x with 82.69 drivers?
  2. Hi sopchoppy, You should post your query in the Auto-Patcher 98 topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/Auto-Patcher-For...ish-t80800.html Is the error occuring when you run the downloaded exe? This extracts all the installer files and sets up some Start Menu shortcuts. If this step is not completing, then you won't even be able to run Auto-Patcher proper.
  3. AFAIK, The SB0100 was not supported with VxD drivers. The ones I have compiled are probably the only ones in existence... I will look into compiling a current WDM driver set for SB0100 Live! 5.1 (EMU10K1) and Audigy (EMU10K2). I currently use waveOut instead of Direct Sound for some applications like DVD playback to get quad speaker working properly. It is necessary to have the multichannel Windows 98SE patch (269601/242937) installed to get more than stereo working in most cases. Auto-Patcher 98 has this patch in the core system updates. BTW, dencorso, great work on the eq patch!
  4. I don't recall seeing the clock problem... But I find that if I run BitTorrent client for more than a day, Windows starts to become unstable and the longer I leave it, the more likely it will crash on me. Rebooting once a day when using BitTorrent works fine. I'll have to look out for the clock drift...
  5. Thanks for the info whatever420! I've compiled an experimental set of drivers for the SB0100. See First Post Let me know how they go. I did some testing some time ago with the new apps - varying success. I'll re-test all the new apps and post those that work well with the VxD drivers. I have nearly a gig of Live! drivers and apps (all downloaded from Creative US, Eur, Asia, Aus, over the years) It'll take some time, so stay tuned! B)
  6. I installed Foxit Reader 2.3 on my 98SE box... Not good. Massive resource drain to the point that after scrolling the first page or so of a PDF, the screen stops updating even though the scroll bar is moving... I've rolled back to 2.2 that works okay - higher resource requirements than Adobe Reader 6, but so much faster to display. I did notice though, that the display in 2.3 was much nicer than 2.2... I've got all the free Foxit extras added and also gdiplus.dll to improve the display quality...
  7. I sent MDGx a PM yesterday in this regard... but he has not been around since May 17... I suspect MDGx is away on holiday...
  8. I multiboot with Windows XP, so I get both PIIIs then. Windows 98SE is my primary OS, and I only use Windows eXtra Problems for the odd task. It's also handy to confirm hardware operation if I have a problem in 98SE with a new piece of hardware...
  9. CT4830 Looks like you have a Generation II Live! card. I've got a Gen II myself. Generation III was introduced with the Live! 5.1. There have been driver updates since the Live!Ware 3.0 full package was released. That's the point of these drivers. As I noted in a previous post, these are the core drivers and do not include Creative applications like Surround Mixer. The Creative apps have been updated since Live!Ware 3.0 also, but there are some compatibility issues with some newer versions since they are often designed for the WDM drivers (not recommended in 9x - I tested them, and could never get them working properly...).
  10. My point was, that without patching the Windows VMM, configuration gets somewhat tricky the more RAM above 1GB is installed. However, this topic highlights that it is possible to use Windows 9x on a PC with more than 1GB of RAM with just public domain information and patches (and even get over 1GB available to Windows). rloew, I think your work is outstanding... but your results are here for comparative purposes only and (Forum Rules 13) not for actual product promotion.
  11. The point is that when you put more than 1GB of RAM in a PC with Windows 9x, problems start to occur even when limiting the amount of RAM by using MaxPhysPage. Various other parameters or drivers are generally needed to become stable. The more RAM, the worse the problem... I currently have 1176924KB (1149MB, 1.122GB) of actual usable Windows memory reported from Windows Properties without any special patches installed. I've never seen Windows work so fast! My mobo has 1.5GB installed. The manufacturer says that you can use up to 2GB of PC100 (four modules), but at PC133 (which I'm using), it is only stable with 1.5GB... So, sometimes it also depends on your mobo...
  12. Hi RJARRRPCGP, I don't think the SB0100 is in the installer INF. Can you post your card's PCI ID. See my previous post for information: http://www.msfn.org/board/Compilation-of-C...549#entry767549
  13. Yeah, patches tend to be file version specific. What model Live! card do you have?
  14. Thanks for the info. Very interesting! Obviously someone at Microsoft had a little forward thinking! (except for IO.SYS and VFAT.VXD...)
  15. Interesting with Ad-Aware SE defs sizes... Jan 28: 2406 KB (works) Feb 18: 2506 KB (works) May 09: 3106 KB (works) May 12: 3228 KB (broken) May 29: 3543 KB (broken) There seems to have been a big jump in defs size after R246 (May 9)... Here is the SE1R246 defs file: http://www.divshare.com/download/6106475-87f (3.09 MiB) Enjoy!
  16. Option 3 gives you some of the cool additional Explorer features in Me but (as the notes says) can also give some of the Me Explorer instability. Installing Revolutions Pack 7.11 will give you most of Option 3 anyway since it uses the Me Explorer. So... Yes you could install Option 3 and then Revolutions Pack 7.11.
  17. I've corrected some of the Sound Blaster Live! model names in the first post supported list. If anyone was wondering, the supported devices do include the SB0060 Live! 5.1 cards (previously incorrectly named). I would like to confirm the operation of these drivers on various Live! models. If you have installed these drivers and they are working correctly, then please post your Live! information. Information as listed in the first post would be good. CT or SB model (on card), descriptive model (on box or manual), and PCI ID would all be useful. PCI ID can be found using regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI Look for key starting with VEN_1102&DEV_0002, and copy key name. And the version of Windows 9x (95, 95A, 95B, 95C, 98, 98SP1, 98SE, Me) Also let me know if the drivers have not worked for you and why. These drivers do not include the Creative apps like Surround Mixer. Many of these can be downloaded from Creative. Thanks. B)
  18. Did you uninstall the nVidia drivers before you swapped the video cards? You should always remove the current drivers, then shutdown, swap the video card, restart, reinstall nVidia drivers. Try uninstalling the drivers, restarting, and reinstalling the 82.69 drivers (with your missing PCI ID added to the INF). Also, the nVidia drivers install a generic Intel AGP GART driver. You must reinstall your chipset drivers after installing the nVidia drivers.
  19. I've been running Java 6 update 6 for three weeks... It appears to me to be unstable and causing Internet Explorer to crash... I've rolled back to Java 6 update 5 that was totally stable. Will post results...
  20. Yeah, I remember when I used Windows 95... Around 1997 I finally replaced my Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with Windows 95 OSR2.x. I used the USB supplement then. In itself, it was quite a big jump in kernel and device support. In 1999, I upgraded to Windows 98 Second Edition and have not looked back (or forwards) since! I've rebuilt Windows 98SE a few times since then as I've upgraded hardware.
  21. VLC media player will play most media including FLV and QuickTime 7 MOV: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ I use it as my QuickTime player.
  22. Hi Haverman, A big welcome to MSFN You can download the freeware version of Satori PhotoXL 2.29 from these sites: http://tucows.comunitel.net/adnload/156897_52181.html http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?4216 (WinSite incorrectly lists it as Shareware, but says Freeware in the description) EDIT: Found these free add-on Brush Libraries from the Satori site that are compatible with freeware 2.29: http://www.satoripaint.com/Downloads/BrushVol1.zip http://www.satoripaint.com/Downloads/BrushVol2.zip http://www.satoripaint.com/Downloads/BrushVol3.zip Instructions: Copy brushes into the brushes folder under Satori. You can access these brushes from the drop-down list in the brush set-up box. I've never heard of it, but being a much talked about award winning image editor for the last eight years, I think I'll check it out! It even works in Windows 95!
  23. I tried it some time ago in Windows 98SE... Cool eye candy, but it was unstable and after a few 3D window operations I generally got an application error or BSOD. There is an english translation here: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=165513
