  1. If you've got time, read through the following topics: (If you haven't got time, just read the last couple of pages of posts in each topic) http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=97140 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=109574 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=114738 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=99263 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=105373 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=79756 Happy reading! The issue is not how much RAM is on the video card, but rather the total system RAM, AGP Aperture size, and Windows VCache size. When Windows uses the standard video driver, it does not map the AGP Aperture. See xrayer's milestone post regarding 2GB RAM fix: http://www.msfn.org/board/Help-I-need-to-G...475#entry750475
  2. No it won't. SBLive! uses the EMU10K1 chipset that is quite different to previous Sound Blasters. Download the SB16 Windows drivers from Creative. If it's a SB16 PCI and you want to use it outside of Windows, then you will need the DOS driver. A bit tricky since Creative dropped DOS support... Try adapting the SBPCI drivers from here: http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/snddosdr.htm
  3. Here's a really awesome system information tool (thanks Xeno86!): If you've used SiSoftware's Sandra, you'll find this much better! It's portable as well, so you don't need to install it on the PC in question. 4. If it was a patch that modified the binaries then yes, but AFAIK, it is purely a wrapper and does not in any way modify a single bit in the official binaries. Correct me if I'm wrong? It is really running like a VM for Firefox - perfectly allowable. No software vendor complains if someone runs their software in a VM like WINE, VMWare, Virtual PC, DOS Box, and others. Afterall, Windows itself runs every app in a VM! Thoughts to ponder...
  5. Hi glocK_94, I've got another present for you... I've uploaded the DOS Emulation drivers for the Live! See here again: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=115903
  6. I've added the pure DOS Sound Blaster 16 Emulation drivers for the Live! These are for Windows 95/98, but not Me since Me does not have pure DOS access aside from the EBD. See first post. EDIT: Windows Me with the EBD IO.SYS patch could in fact run SB16 DOS Emulation!
  7. There are some people having problems with their Creative Sound Blaster Live! in Windows 9x. Creative CD release drivers and Web Release drivers seem to be in many different revisions for different cards... Some revisions are good and some are not. For years I have been collecting and testing newer versions of creative driver files to determine those that worked in 9x with the Live!. Following is that collection of driver files: Please note that these are original, freely available Creative files, and the binaries are not modified or patched in any way. The provided software is useless without a Creative Sound Blaster Live! card installed. The PCI ID can be found using regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI Look for a key starting with VEN_1102&DEV_0002, and copy the key name. I have used these drivers in Windows 98SE, but they should support 95 and Me although I have not tested them on these platforms. There are Creative installers for Windows 95 and for Windows 98/Me. Windows 9x Pure DOS support drivers For those wanting Pure DOS (outside of Windows) Sound Blaster 16 Emulation for their Live! and have lost or never had the original CD, or have a newer CD that does not come with these, or simply can't be bothered looking for them: 1999 Release (823 KiB): mirror 1: http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/sbldos.zip 2000 Release (827 KiB): mirror 1: http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/sbldos2.zip There are two releases of DOS Drivers. The 2000 release should work on all Live! cards, but if there is a problem then use the 1999 release. Note: DOS Emulation may not work on some (newer) motherboards if the BIOS does not map the PCI SERR# signal to the processor NMI (Non-Maskable Interrupt). Look in the BIOS settings for a PCI SERR setting or check with your mobo vendor for a BIOS upgrade, or dump the Mobo for one that works properly! I have been using them for years with no problem, however, they may or may not work on your model of Creative sound card, and therefore, I cannot make any guarantee of suitability. In simple terms, you are solely responsible if your audio begins to sound like you're in a concrete bunker some thirty-seven miles from the stage of Disaster Area! Enjoy!
  8. True! I mainly use Foxit Reader for quick display of PDFs, but Acrobat is sometimes useful when Foxit freaks out!
  9. Hey glocK_94, see my new topic here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Compilation-of-C...nd-t115903.html
  10. I've been using VLC media player for some time in Windows 98SE. It's good for playing QuickTime 7 files. I have Creative Sound Blaster Live! 4-speaker audio. My Creative drivers are: A3D.DLL - 80.0.0.3 AC3API.DLL - 4.6.0.506 CIFMAN.DLL - 4.5.0.1005 CIFMAN.VXD - 4.5.0.1003 CSPMAN.DLL - 4.14.0.1 CTMM16.DRV - 4.12.1.900 CTSYN.VXD - 4.6.0.609 CTSYN16.DRV - 4.6.0.603 CTWT16.DRV - 4.12.1.900 DEVCON32.DLL - 4.6.0.659 EMU10K1.VXD - 4.12.1.906 SBLFX.DLL - 5.12.1.3210 SFMAN.VXD - 4.6.0.502 SFMAN32.DLL - 4.6.0.3301 These are the latest version VxD drivers that I have determined to work on 98SE. The problem is, that I have never got 4-speaker sound working in VLC... I can use stereo, but 4-speaker just gives me a high pitched scratching noise. I have KB269601 (KB242937) Multi-Channel Non-PCM Audio Update installed. This update allows 4-speaker audio from some other software that did not work before. Generally software needs to use waveOut Win32 API on 98SE to work with more than stereo. But... Not VLC media player... BTW, I've tried the stock-standard Creative 9x Web Release drivers for the Sound Blaster Live! with no difference (except instability in Windows!)... No problem on the same PC with Windows XP and the Creative Web Release XP drivers. Does anyone else have this problem with VLC media player and a Creative Sound Blaster Live! sound card? Or... does anyone use VLC and a Live! card with 4 speakers okay? Obviously this only applies to media with more than two channel sound.
  11. So, that's what it was... What about a patch for Adobe Acrobat 6.0.6 Standard?
  12. Hi maximus-decim, I posted this in MDGx's updates topic, but it should be here: WIA 1.0 back-dated some files... I understand that it overwrites various STI files with the Me versions... However, it back-dated Twain files (I'm using the newer versions from XP SP2) and also MSVCP50.DLL. TWUNK_32.EXE 1.7.1.0 > 1.7.0.0 TWAIN_32.DLL 1.7.1.1 > 1.7.1.0 MSVCP50.DLL 5.00.7051 > 5.00.7022 These files are not unique to Windows Me and should not be back-dated, especially MSVCP50.DLL since it could break some older software. I have restored the files to the newer versions. Aside from that, it's an awesome update pack!
  13. Hey Springdale, glad you're still enjoying 9x! I just can't keep away from it. You could try the all-in-one 98SE installer, The Unattended Boot CD for Windows 98se v4.8: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=88008 Let us know how the ThinkPad turns out with 9x.
  14. E-66, How long have you been using 98Lite and Windows 95 Shell? Did this problem exist before then, or has it always been a problem, or not applicable because 98Lite and Win95 Shell were there from the start? I don't think HTML Help uses MSXML 4.0, however, just to cover all options, try installing it too: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en This is the latest version with no known problems with 9x. The catch is that you will need to extract the msxml4.msi file to install. You can use WinZip, WinRAR, PowerArchiver, and so on. Or, you can use the command-line option from the installer on an XP PC...
  15. Yeah, sorry, missed that bit. It did prompt for some files, which I responded to keep the newer files. The previous list are files that did not prompt!!!
  16. Hi, Those files you mention are from Outlook Express 6 that is part of Internet Explorer 6. Office 2000 comes with the full Outlook 2000. This does interact with OE and the install may have changed files. You will need to reinstall IE including Outlook Express. See my recent post on this: http://www.msfn.org/board/can-t-view-files...681#entry752681 Also, install latest OE updates: http://www.mdgx.com/files/OE923694.EXE
  17. This problem was known for years by Microsoft and never fixed! However, the nice supporters here on MSFN fixed the problem! Download and install this Windows Shell fix for 98/98SE from here: http://www.mdgx.com/files/SHELL98.EXE If you wanted to run 98SE again (recommended) instead of 98, then you should do an in-place upgrade before installing the Shell update. I used to have the lockup problems with Windows Explorer up to a year ago. I was tearing my hair out! Then I discovered MSFN and the rest is history!
  18. Well, even though you do not use Internet Explorer, HTML Help (CHM) files do. According to Microsoft, if the HTML Help update does not fix the problem, then your Internet Explorer is corrupt. You should reinstall Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and then the current updates. IE6 SP1 from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/ie6...US/ie6setup.exe Latest IE6 SP1 updates from here: http://www.mdgx.com/files/IE944533.EXE IE6 SP1 installer will download required files from Microsoft - hope you've got broadband or it could take a couple of hours!
  19. Here is the latest Unofficial HTML Help Update: http://www.mdgx.com/files/HHUPD.EXE This along with the previous XML update should give a working solution. There are however, dependancies on Internet Explorer as well. Do you know what version of Internet Explorer you have installed?
  20. Hi E-66, You could try updating XML files: MSXML 3.0 SP7: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/8...33dd/msxml3.msi
  21. Hi MDGx, I have an interesting one with 98SE2ME. I updated my network card driver and Windows reinstalled the networking files... The following files got back-dated to 98SE versions: \WINDOWS ARP.EXE TRACERT.EXE FTP.EXE NETSTAT.EXE PING.EXE ROUTE.EXE INETMIB1.DLL \WINDOWS\SYSTEM LOCPROXY.EXE LOCPRXY2.EXE ROUTETAB.DLL QOSNAME.DLL RPCLTC3.DLL RPCLTS3.DLL DHCPCSVC.DLL ICMP.DLL IPCFGDLL.DLL NDISWMI.SYS I replaced these files with the Me versions again. Now the question here is if it is possible to avoid this? Gape's uSP uses a SP2.CAB file that is referenced first when Windows wants to reinstall files. Is it possible to do something similar with 98SE2ME? Even if it is dynamically created when 98SE2ME is installed. Something to ponder.
  22. Another great suite of updates from MDGx! OLEUP, VBVM60, and SCR579x all good so far... WIA 1.0 (from previous update additions) back-dated some files...
  23. Paging Xeno86, paging Xeno86, this is a call for KernelEx! If we satisfied those dependancies, I wonder whether we would make some progress with Firefox 3?
  24. Thanks for the technical input. The 2226 driver update stated that it was only for old IBM portables with removable disks. I figured that there should be no reason why it would not work on any PC... I was running 2226 for some time before I rolled back to 2225, since most people seem to think 2225 would be more stable/compatible. So, Mr. Loew, what's your expert opinion on 2226 verses 2225 on any PC? Are there any disadvantages when running 2226 over 2225? I would have thought that it was a good thing that the power management could flush the driver? Also, based on Microsoft's versioning model, 2226 should be an update to 2225, but apparently not really. More of a parallel driver version... EDIT: Oops, sorry, I spelt your name wrong!
  25. PROBLEMCHYLD, this topic is for Windows Media Player. MSVBVM60.DLL is a Visual Basic library and is not really part of any package. It will probably be included in Auto-Patcher and Unofficial Service Pack.
