  1. I've checked the MSI file and it was built using 2.00 Schema - 9x compatible... I'll keep digging...
  2. When I try to install Java 6u10 (and fails), my msievent.log file (in Temp) is:
  3. Nice work MDGx! As always, a superb package! - so far Windows Media Player works correctly. However, a word of warning: The last three releases of 98MP10 replace SHFOLDER.DLL. If you are using KernelEx 0.3.4, 0.3.5, or 0.3.6, you will lose the SHFOLDER.DLL patching. After installing 98MP10, you must uninstall and reinstall KernelEx to re-patch SHFOLDER.DLL.
  4. Yep!, nVidia broke the uninstaller, nvuDisp.exe (1.0.1.41), after 77.72... Use nvuDisp.exe 1.0.1.39 from 77.72. If you've already installed the broken one, then just copy the good file to the Windows System folder. You will then be able to uninstall 80 series drivers correctly. Why do I get the impression that nVidia really bungled the 80 series 9x drivers and got themselves in such a mess that they just bailed... I tried the 81.98 drivers with a 7600, but they just crashed. I don't actually think I tried 77.72 since I figured if the 81.98 drivers did not work then nothing earlier would... I'll have to give them a go (INF modded of course!) Well I tried the 77.72 INF modded drivers with the 7600 GS... They would not initialise (on bootup)... Only 82.69 will initialise with 7600... Great work folks! All we need now is confirmation that an 8 or 9 series card actually works on 9x! No, MDGx has not included nvuDisp 1.0.1.39 from 77.72... Any comments MDGx? - See my quoted post above. I've never got the 80 series uninstaller (1.0.1.41) to work on my PC... Has anyone ever successfully used the nVidia uninstaller from the 80 series drivers without crashing out?
  5. Just use the first link for version 3.3 English - unless you want Russian, then you can use the second link. I'm using 3.3 and it works well. The other links are previous releases for anyone who might be troubleshooting and so on. Also, you can look at this post (#407) for download mirrors and additional languages: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...st&p=715699

  7. rloew, sorry to hear about AOL retiring hometown - looks like AOL have made a lot of people unhappy... I've been using the updated FDISK for years - care to expand on what's buggy in it?
  8. 29.42? No good if one has a more recent card like a series 5 or higher...
  9. Well, so far no one has confirmed an 8000 series card working in 9x... Since 8000 series cards come with lots of RAM onboard, this is a problem to start with. I calculated that with 512 MiB of video RAM, the 9x memory settings would basically be zero meaning no address space left... It probably also depends on the Mobo. Possibly 320 MiB could be made to work with some strict limiting of 9x memory settings... I'm not even sure how XP can manage it's System Arena with a video frame buffer of 768 MiB or higher... 9x uses a 1 GiB System Arena, where NT OSs by default split the System Arena over two 1 GiB address spaces. XP with a 512 MiB video card would most certainly fail using the 3G switch that makes it's addressing work like 9x. The drivers were a final beta leaked from nVidia. There was also a 82.16 beta released to OEMs for the last 9x officially supported cards. Without the source code, that nVidia would never release, there is little chance of a binary update of these drivers. As for XP drivers... No chance. XP uses an entirely different video driver architecture.
  10. A good sign from VIA regarding Windows 9x is that they have now put the Windows 9x VIAStor IDE driver back into their latest Hyperion Pro 5.20A. This now means that 5.20A contains all the VIA chipset drivers in one package again and there is no need to install 5.11A first. I'm a happy camper. So... ONGD - FREE - VIA Hyperion Pro (5.20A with 9x VIAStor IDE driver) --- http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageI...&CatID=1110 I would therefore think that it also contains all VIA 9x SATA drivers as well... (I don't have SATA so I cannot confirm)
  11. Actually, the worst wear and stress on a PC is the first few minutes when it turns on from cold... Anytime someone has problems with old hardware starting up, they can leave the PC running rather than powering off and generally it will work fine for sometime before finally packing up... Besides, my P3 idles at about 50W... And... I don't have to wait for it to boot up everytime I need to use it!
  12. Google is normally your friend, but here the Internet Archive Wayback Machine is your friend! http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.sy...als.com/Files/* and (case sensitive), http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.sy...als.com/files/* You'll find most revisions of Sysinternals tools archived here. An added bonus is the source code that is all but gone since M$ "took over management"... You can see in the list of snapshot dates when files change by an asterisk next to the date. Many revisions of the original home page can be viewed from: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.sysinternals.com If you've got lots of time on your hands, you can search through the entire site's files and revisions including the original web pages and forums using: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.sysinternals.com/* Happy searching!
  13. Thats a shame if this is indeed true,i wonder why they changed it so much!Thats a good player! That's an old post you are referring to. See my post two back. 0.8.6i works with no problems.
  14. I can confirm that 0.8.6i works fine. When I try 0.9.2, it starts to run and then nothing. I find a hidden vlc task that appears to have hung. I have KernelEx 0.3.5b (Tihiy's update) installed and this may be why I don't get the missing exports error...
  15. Correct. In fact Microsoft dropped support after December 2006 Redist according to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en "Starting with Febraury 2007 SDK release - The redist no longer supports Win9x" However, releases before June 2008 were just missing bda.cab and directx.cab from the December 2006 release. Starting June 2008, Microsoft have changed the cab format and so most people cannot install June or August. For some reason, I am able to install June 2008 (I haven't tried August 2008 yet...).
  16. Unfortunately, it is a known problem with nVidia 80 series 9x drivers... Have a read through the 82.69 drivers topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=97140 I even get it sometimes during restart, but mostly with shutdowns. I just leave my PC on, and turn off the monitor...
  17. You can now get August 2008 DirectX redist (9.24.1400) from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en
  18. You won't find SYSTEM.INI on the CD... It is dynamically generated during setup.
  19. What version kX Project drivers did you use in 98SE? According to the change log, 98 support was dropped after version 5.00.3537 (2004)...
  20. directx.cab and bda.cab were last available in the December 2006 DirectX release (can download from MS). The reason you cannot access dxdllreg_x86.cab (and possibly others too) is because it is in an updated Cab format. This seems to be the core of the problem... Try using the latest release of WinRAR, PowerArchiver or your choice of archiver to extract/view it. I still have not determined why my 98SE can install the June 2008 DirectX... I do have MDGx's 98SE2ME installed... This is probably the last option to test. Is anyone using 98SE2ME able to install DirectX June 2008 without the file extraction error?
  21. Problem solved! I was using a 350W PSU before... I've installed a 430W PSU with 18A on the 12V rail... All seems to work now with the 7600 GS 256MB and 82.69 drivers. Looks like this card is a power sucker!
  22. Hi soporific! Glad you could drop in after floating around in the Ether! Let's get 9x rolling for 2008! We need lots of testers for new updates (and free software add-ons), since some updated files this year have issues with some software or Windows 98SE itself. The more input from people, the better the next AP updates set will be! So, everyone get testing MDGx's currently listed updates and report! http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46581
  23. Eck, what's the total size of the CD? Perhaps you could create a spanned archive of less than 100MB chunks (one per upload)? You could try the upload site I use: http://www.skyupload.com I've found it to be reliable, however they remove the upload if no one downloads it for 90 days... I would be interested in looking at that CD...
