  1. have you placed a CAB'd version of VIAMRAID.SYS in your I386 directory?
  2. i dont know exactly, give it a try. these are mine: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "ActiveWndTrkTimeout"=dword:00000000 "AutoEndTasks"="1" "DragFullWindows"="1" "DragHeight"="4" "DragWidth"="4" "FontSmoothing"="2" "FontSmoothingOrientation"=dword:00000001 "FontSmoothingType"=dword:00000001 "HungAppTimeout"="1000" "LowPowerActive"="0" "LowPowerTimeOut"="0" "MenuShowDelay"="8" "PaintDesktopVersion"=dword:00000001 "PowerOffActive"="0" "PowerOffTimeOut"="0" "ScreenSaveActive"=dword:00000000 "SCRNSAVE.EXE"="" "ScreenSaverIsSecure"="0" "ScreenSaveTimeOut"="600" "UserPreferencesMask"=hex:90,12,01,80 "WaitToKillAppTimeout"="2000" "Wallpaper"="" "WheelScrollLines"="3" "WallpaperStyle"="2" "Pattern Upgrade"="TRUE" "SmoothScroll"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics] "MinAnimate"="0"

  4. all these wont work if you want to decompress a installshield cab archive i guess.
  5. small tools in system32 dir: cdimage.exe (commandline) lower.exe - lowercase all files in a directory (commandline) md5.exe - md5 checksum calculator (commandline) path_add.exe - add a directory to PATH setting (commandline) qfecheck.exe - list installed hotfixes (commandline) shortcut.exe - shortcut creator (commandline) srvinstw.exe - service install/uninstall utility startup.exe - startup monitor stripreloc.exe (commandline) tweakui.exe uptime.exe - displays uptime (commandline) wget.exe - the original (commandline) bigger ones for programfiles dir: 7-Zip Adobe Reader CPU-Z Everest Home FlashFXP McAfee Firewall McAfee VirusScan Media Player Classic Mozilla Firefox Mozilla Thunderbird MS Office 2003 Nero Burning ROM Sun Java Timesync Utility Total Commander WinAMP WinRAR XviD anything else would be too senseless for being installed by default for me
  6. The problem with VirtualPC is that full acceleration isn't enabled by default. If the VirtualPC window hasn't got the focus, it will run veeeeery slow. Setting VirtualPC up correctly, it runs a lot faster but I agree in switching to VMware. You will notice another grow in speed and usability. With VMware the installation needs only as long as it takes on a real machine, which is quite impressive for a VM.
  7. use DEL %0 for not being bound to a specific filename.
  8. Hi unattended folks I'm using a VB-Script to install my shortcuts (please do not discuss about pros/cons of different ways to install shortcuts) at the end of RunOnceEx. During RunOnceEx I'm installing McAfee VirusScan and Firewall. Those offer a VBS-protection to protect the computer from being attacked by VBS-worms etc. As it seems, creating a shortcut is suspicious acitivity and therefore McAfee displays a Messagebox what to do with the script. Sorrowly this stops the unattended process until you press a button. I tried killing McAfee tasks and services, but even if all services and applications aren't running this Messagebox pops up. Does anyone has a clue how to deal with this? Of course, a workaround is installing the shortcuts before installing McAfee, but this isn't as geek as it should Thx. As always: please excuse my english.
  9. did you use the office shrinker floating around on the forums here? if it is still too large consider using 7-zip at ultra compression for saving some megs and/or use fewer features. my office 2003 sfx is currently 59.6mb and does only contain word and excel.
  10. do it as muiz said but rename Adobe Reader 6.0.msi to something handy like AR6.msi and just leave AR6.msi and data1.cab in your install directory. anything else is not needed.
  11. 7z.exe a -r -sfx -mx=9 somename.exe * this is for creating a sfx with ultra compression in commandline. but in real dos mode you have no chance extracting/creating a 7zip as eagle pointed out already.
  12. please regard my updated guide, i had an error in the syntax. it has to be ACE.msi /QN REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESSwithout a / before the REBOOT
  13. why not using the msi file in the ACE-directory of the extracted download? space saving in a 7-Zip SFX: 8.8mb (19mb to 10.2mb) guide: 1) download wxp-CATALYST-CONTROL-CENTER-17307.exe from ati.com. 2) execute wxp-CATALYST-CONTROL-CENTER-17307.exe. 3) the second dialogue will ask you where you want to save your files. enter a temporary directory of your choice. alternatively you can extract the file using e.g. winrar. cancel setup after the files are extracted. 4) go to that temporary directory and open the folder ACE. 5) rename ATI Catalyst Control Center.msi to something easy like ACE.msi. 6) start msiexec /a ACE.msi and setup will create an administrative installpoint for you in a directory of your choice. this is optional but as there is a setup.exe in the ACE directory i'm unsure if it is needed or not. i suppose it includes only the windows installer runtimes. 7) compress the directory of the last step using 7-Zip or WinRAR or whatever you like. I prefer 7-Zip. 8) add the following code to your RunOnceEx or whatever program installs for you at GuiRunOnce: ACE.msi /QN REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS 9) you're done!
  14. I agree.Could anyone explain why you are using the "/Q:A /R:N" switch TWICE in the command-line? I haven't tried the MP10 unattended yet. But after a normal install, WMP10 rocks! the "/c:" after mp10setup.exe defines a custom command to be launched after the file is extracted. by default it would launch setup_wm.exe without any commandline switches for the normal installation. for unattended installation the switch is "setup_wm.exe /DisallowSystemRestore /Q:A /R:N". Thats why it is enclosed in " ". The "/Q:A /R:N"-part after mp10setup.exe is just for hiding the file extraction process from the user as well. i extracted mp10setup.exe manually by calling "mp10setup.exe /c /t:<path_to_extract>", compressed it to 7-Zip (9mb instead of 12mb) and just added "setup_wm.exe /DisallowSystemRestore /Q:A /R:N" to my RunOnceEx.
  15. dont know if you knew already but to delete this key via reg-file use the following: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "msnmsgr"=-
  16. DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore doesnt work always. patched/hacked ati catalyst drivers are another example where it doesnt work. but the key wass mentioned isnt new either.
  17. try the following instead: DEL "%AllUsersProfile%\Desktop\Alcohol*.lnk" this should do it. probably the %-sign is the thing the commandprompt does not want to process. there are some other ways to get this to work but the use of * should do it too. it's the same problem as with german ä, ö and ü or with the french ç.
  18. this is no error or something as the checksum of the file changes if you modify the bits and bytes in it. windows setup calculates the checksum of each file and compares it to the value which is saved inside each file. if you dont use modifype -c, this value isnt equal to the checksum of the file which will be calculated by windows setup and it will give you an error. this is important in cases of corrupted files produced by defected hard- or software as those files could harm your system.
  19. it doesnt care about this in some special cases. the catalyst drivers are on of these. i tried to install a catalyst driver with patched ati2mtag.sys for enabled the 8 pipelines on a 9800se but it wont install via oempnpdriverspath.
  20. with this method (copying just the program files without any setup) you should be able to compress it even more. i gave it a short try and got it to about 5.5mb, but i prefer having an installer (at least as long as there is enough space on the cd)
  21. Look at the first pages of the Registry Tweaks thread and you'll see those aren't new information. indeed, editing specific values (not all-on or all-off) is difficult. here is my solution: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects] "VisualFXSetting"=dword:00000003 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ComboBoxAnimation] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\CursorShadow] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DragFullWindows] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DropShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\FontSmoothing] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListBoxSmoothScrolling] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewAlphaSelect] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewWatermark] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\MenuAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\SelectionFade] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TaskbarAnimations] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\Themes] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TooltipAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\WebView] "DefaultApplied"=dword:00000001 this disables everything except: - transparent background for desktop icons - translucent selection rectangle - show window content while dragging - smooth edges of screen fonts (hope i translated them correctly *g*)
Just informed that i recreated an Office Shrink Program in Delphi because the thing posted here does not work for me. As my program only works on German versions, I wrote the post in German too.
