  1. @JFX, not offense meant at all I assure you, but since the "problem" seems to effect builds made with update packs from OnePiece, harkaz, and now 5eraph, and perhaps the other ones as well, and builds made with those update packs all install correctly with no errors from both DVD and USB when using other methods than WinNTSetup, it seems that there might could be a modification made to WinNTSetup to allow it to be used with such builds, if it is possible of course. If nothing else, perhaps you could work with the authors of those update packs so that they could add whatever they need to allow proper operation with WinNTSetup but not interfere with installation by other means, but I think it makes more sense to make a change in one place, WinNTSetup, than to require changes in multiple update packs, again if possible of course. I realize that theses problems appear to only effect XP and 2K3 which are both at or near EOL, but those OS still have a rather large market share and I have a feeling they will both continue to live on well past EOL. WinNTSetup is a very respected tool that is being used by more and more folks and it would seem to be in the best interest of all to resolve this issue. Just my opinion. Cheers and Regards
  2. Simply set BlurDeviation to zero. If I understand him correctly, he is trying to make the right and left borders transparent, and maybe the bottom as well, but he wants to continue to have blur in the top titlebar. Seems strange to me, but to each his own. I just don't know if it is possible at all. What I meant by removing borders is to remove the right and left borders. Perhaps the bottom one as well, but basically those two. Leaving titlebar with blur. Doesn't BlurDeviation effect the borders and titlebar equally? Cheers and Regards
  3. Thanks for the clarification/reminder den. I stand corrected. Cheers and Regards
  4. Best I understand, effectively they are different versions of the same thing, but I also agree that just the PosReady key should be good enough for your needs. Cheers and Regards
  5. @Stefan43, you missed jaclaz's sarcasm. Seriously, what are you really asking? Officially, if I understand it correctly and I could be wrong, per the licenses of the effected products, you are not allowed to use MS Office apps with POSReady 2009, ie it is not supported. So for the vast majority of installations of POSReady 2009, which was intended for Point Of Sale terminals, which are often maintained through service contracts, such an installation of an MS Office app will not even be attempted. But if you install POSReady 2009 for home use, which it was not intended for, apparently there is nothing to prevent your ability to install a MS Office app, even though it is not allowed. Is it safe for use? I think what jaclaz meant with his appropriate sarcasm is that that it is probably just as "safe" as the use of any MS Office app, or any other software app for that matter. It's safety is more likely effected by the user's computing habits than the fact that either the OS or the MS Office app version is no longer being supported. You want a guarantee? Sorry, no one can give you that for any piece of software no matter what they tell you. Use safe computing practices and you most likely will be fine. Cheers and Regards
  6. It could be that vLite was not made to be used on Win7, and as such there are some incompatibilities. nuhi is working on a new tool for Win7 and Win8.x, but if you can't wait then you would be better off using a different tool that was made to be used for Win7 such as Win Toolkit. Cheers and Regards
  7. Sure. And just so you, and others can see what I meant, here is a copy of my post above in BBCODE mode: ( I added extra spaces to keep the board software from automatically converting it to WYSIWYG mode.) [ quote name="bphlpt" post="1079222" timestamp="1401417582" ]Thanks indeed. My wife and I both loved that piece. 8. You're quite welcome. I find that often the easiest way to learn how to do stuff on forums is to examine other people's posts and see how they did it. One way I do that is to quote the post I'm interested in, then toggle the "BBCODE" button in the edit box. The BBCODE button is the little button right above the bold "B" button at the upper left of the edit box. That will change the view of the content of the edit box back and forth from "WYSIWYG" mode to "BBCODE" mode which exposes the BBCODE of the post so you can see what is going on "behind the scenes". You can enter and edit your own content in the edit box in either mode, whichever you are more comfortable with, but there are some occasions that you can do things in BBCODE mode that you sometimes can't do, or at least can't do easily, in WYSIWYG mode, such as copying the content including formatting commands to a different text editor for further editing, for example. It is also sometimes a very handy way for cleaning up a post. FYI, many boards offer this "dual mode" editing, but it is usually hidden away, like it is here on this board with an unmarked button with no tool tip. Cheers and Regards
  9. Thanks indeed. My wife and I both loved that piece. For easy access: Cheers and Regards
  10. And of course, IMHO it would be good if SevenOptimus would take what improvements there are in Gora's, DreamLair's and whatever other versions there are and incorporate them as well. I'm not sure about DreamLair, but I understand that if you ask Gora personally for a copy of his latest source he has been known to provide it, at least he has in the past. And someone else might be able to provide the compiling services for the DLL, if that's all it takes, to allow SevenOptimus to release a version that would still work on XP. It would be nice to have a unified version again. Just my two cents. Cheers and Regards
  11. It might help if you could make a screen video showing the effect, upload it to someplace like YouTube and post a link to it here so we could see what you are talking about. Then maybe someone would have an idea of what to suggest. Cheers and Regards
  12. I know that nLite, RyanVM's Integrator, and HFSLIP are each preferred by different folks to work with XP. Other tools are used as well, but I think those are the most popular. Use whichever one you prefer and are the most familiar with. In each case you should be sure to use the most recent version of the tool. Cheers and Regards
  13. Why like this, of course. Cheers and Regards
  14. Well, I guess that would be handy if you were going to build it out of PVC pipe. Cheers and Regards
  15. Yes, Win Toolkit is being actively maintained. And good for you for liking Black Viper's service settings. Black Viper is recognized as being one of the authorities about Windows service settings. His site has lots of useful info, and his recommendations have even been incorporated into the Smart tool to allow the service settings to be easily changed. Cheers and Regards
  16. Yeah, the amount of press it is getting is just an indication of how popular that XP still is. IMHO it is only a matter of time before MS closes this loophole. Cheers and Regards
  17. In a similar manner, as to CCleaner's file cleaning mode, it has an optional "Analyze" function so that you can see where the files will be deleted from before you commit to the changes. Cheers and Regards
  18. The best tool for any job depends exactly on what the job is, ie what you are trying to accomplish, and what your experience level is. RT7Lite's biggest claim to fame, and what many folks still prefer it for, is for removing features from the OS to slim it down. I, and many others, feel that goal is no longer needed as much as it once was. Slimming an OS made a lot more sense and gave performance improvements that you could feel back in the day when the CPU was much slower, and memory and disc drives were smaller and slower. With today's hardware improvements there just doesn't seem to be the need to slim like there once was. Also there is always the risk that if you removed something, that you might need it later for some update or new piece of software you install, and trying to put the feature you removed back didn't always work, thus forcing you to rebuild and install the OS from scratch. If you are just trying to make an up to date Windows 7 install source, then there are many ways to do that and I'm sure folks will chime in with their favorite. They will range from built in Windows tools such as DISM with batch commands to tools such as Win Toolkit. Good luck in your endeavors. Cheers and Regards
  19. I also have been using CCleaner for years with no problems. I know many people have said that registry cleaning and/or defragging has no proven benefit, and I have no proof that it helps either, but I feel better doing it and it has never adversely effected me. You notice that even among the folks above that have said to not do registry cleaning or defragging, that none of them have said that CCleaner's file cleaning have caused problems. NoelC has said that it's better to "do it yourself", and that is true from that standpoint that you should always know exactly what your apps are doing, but for the "lazy" among us, once you have set it up and confirmed which folders are being cleaned CCleaner is a quick thing you can use to automatically keep things tidy. Note: see also http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171875-long-term-system-stability/?p=1078900, and elsewhere in that thread, for arguments for and against cleaning the registry. Cheers and Regards
  20. From your picture it is still there. They use the words "Apply to Folders" now instead of "Apply to All Folders". I'm not sure why it is grayed out and not enabled in your case, unless they have changed it to only be "live" if you have made any modifications that have not already been "synced"? Or could it be that you have made some kind of tweak to your system that has effected this option in some way? Or you have to be an administrator now for it to be effective? I'm just guessing. Someone else who actually uses Win8.x will have to comment whether it works for them or not. Cheers and Regards
  21. While I know that RT7Lite has its fans, so no offense meant to them, you do realize that some of RT7Lite's methods are kind of hacks that make updating a source that it has been used on impossible and also that it hasn't been updated in YEARS and is no longer supported by the developer, don't you? As long as you realize that and are willing to deal with the consequences, then carry on. Cheers and Regards
  22. In safe mode the USB driver might not be loaded, I'm not sure, but if you can get to DOS by just exiting from Water4Z then you might be able to find the USB from there. But if the USB driver is only loaded by Windows and not by DOS then you might be out of luck after all. If your system has a CD drive, then maybe you can transfer the files from USB to a CD using another system and then access the files that way? Sorry, but I'm really just guessing. Is there anyone else there who is more familiar with the hardware and software? Maybe trying a repair install of Win9x might be the easiest thing to try and do, but be aware that you might very well make matters worse, so be sure you have a way to start over from scratch if things go wrong. That includes having a backup of all data you want to keep and all the installation files you might need to reinstall the OS and all programs. Sorry I'm just not as familiar with Win9x as to able to help you more. Cheers and Regards
  23. Like I said, can you reinstall your system?, I assume that would mean reinstalling everything, Win9x, Water4Z and any other software you have installed. That would be the safest solution but it would take the most work. You could also try a repair install of just Win9x, but since we don't know what happened to cause it to fail there is no guarantee it would work and it could make the problem worse. I am really not the person to be able to advise you since it has been many, many years since I have used Win9x. In the meantime, I suppose that you can copy the files to the folder using DOS, you don't need Windows to be able to do that. Cheers and Regards
  24. It is definitely sounding like jaclaz is right. In other words, your installation of Win 9x has gotten corrupted somehow and you are not able to boot into Win 9x no matter what you do because it is broken. That seems to be the problem rather than the auto loading of "Water4Z.exe". The auto loading, and DOS, seem to be working. And I also agree that this was not caused by the battery issue. I know it's an extreme solution, but can you reinstall Win 9x? Cheers and Regards
