  1. ironman14 did not get the link wrong. The link on the wiki main page is wrong. Thanks for providing the correct one. Someone should correct the wiki link. Cheers and Regards
  2. I was close. Cheers and Regards
  3. I'm not sure, but don't you just have to "escape" the inner quotes (") with a backslash like this -- \" -- like they are on line 14? Cheers and Regards
  4. Doesnt seem like it, but you should take a look at the KEXT mini updates though. KEXT is made for MACs not windows LOL Not that KEXT, This KEXT - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/157173-kext-diy-kernelex-extensions/. Cheers and Regards
  5. Any system file customization risks becoming obsolete when that system file is updated by MS, and by definition when you change a system file then Windows system protection, SFC, will usually complain about the file. Cheers and Regards

    FDV fileset for XP

I can't argue with your logic in general, but while you are waiting for FDV I would suggest trying it in DEFAULT anyway. For all we know, some of the changes FDV made to his fileset requires that DEFAULT be used. And if it has the same results, then you can tell us we were wrong with a clear conscience. Obviously, none of us know the answer since we have never tried to do what you are trying, so we are just guessing, but while you are waiting do you have anything else to do? We're just trying to help, but if you don't want to try our suggestions then we'll leave you alone while you wait. Good luck. Cheers and Regards
  7. Of course that is no comparison to XP or jaclaz's beloved Win2K, but I'm sure he will provide you with appropriate figures. EDIT: As expected we cross-posted. Cheers and Regards
  8. And just because "My product key for the install is legitimate. ... The product key registers with Microsoft without any issues.", does not mean the CD you are using is genuine. Unfortunately for you, we here at MSFN, can not help you with your problem unless your install source and key are both genuine. Cheers and Regards

    FDV fileset for XP

Then I guess we'll all have to wait until FDV happens to see this thread and responds. He is busy these days and not around much so that might be awhile, but you might also try and contact him through PM. Did you at least do as submix8c suggested and try using Default, before user creation of course, instead of the AllUsers? Just a thought. Cheers and Regards

    FDV fileset for XP

You still have not answered submix8c's questions, you have just pointed out more Special Folders that also have the same problem for you. Cheers and Regards
  11. Asking questions will not make the site go up a longer wait. If he sees a question that "needs" to be addressed, I'm sure he will be on and answer it. In the meantime, as NoelC put it: "Patience Grasshopper, patience". Well it won't make the wait longer, but it will make this thread longer and more crowded with non-useful posts, (like this one. ), so it will make it more aggravating for BM to find/notice posts that actually need his attention. Cheers and Regards
  12. In the last month have you tried to plug the HDD into another computer with known good cables and copy the data you want to be sure to keep off to a different drive? (Which would have also helped confirm whether the problem is indeed with the drive or some other part of the system such as the power supply or motherboard.) Or is this just some kind of running blog where you are keeping us apprised of all the symptoms of your dying machine as it goes through its death throes as you just sit back and watch doing nothing to help it? I'm not sure what you are looking for from us. I haven't seen any reports from you that you have tried to do anything that was suggested to help diagnose the problem, you have just reported its deteriorating condition. We can't fix it for you over the Internet. You are going to have to do some work yourself. Good luck, it looks like you will need it. Cheers and Regards
  13. Yep, that works. I just didn't try it when it said "Forbidden". And once you have looked at the image, and is in your cache, then the spoiler image is there as well, of course. Cheers and Regards
  14. submix8c, the image in the spoiler doesn't work. (Just has a "Remote Linking Forbidden" image) Cheers and Regards
  15. NoelC, I know this is OT, but I was wondering ... Since you admit that Win8.x is slower than Win7SP1 and there is not really much, if anything, that is a real improvement for actual work in Win8.x, and you have had to add several third party apps to Win8.x to bring back the look and feel of Win7SP1 to the desktop that seems generally preferred, have you considered doing a new install of an updated Win7SP1, complete with all of your old tweaks and anything new you have learned over the last two years along with updated versions of all the apps that you normally use day-to-day, maybe even set your system up to be able to dual boot Win7 and Win8.x? You could then truly show apples to apples performance comparisons, say which apps perform better with one OS over the other, and maybe even make a few updates to the Win7 version of your book if appropriate, since I'm sure that Win7 will continue to have life and followers for quite awhile. I'm sure that xpclient could also add comments about the comparison as well. Just a thought since you seem to be about the most capable person I know to do such a comparison on real metal. I mean I know your are busy with your actual job and RL, but in your spare time ... heh-heh NOTE: You might have already made such an installation, but I don't know if you have gone back and updated your Win7 book accordingly, if anything new was found, that is. [ /OT ] Cheers and Regards my friend
  16. Sorry, post moved to - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171936-system-testing-and-benchmarks/?p=1079868 - Seemed more appropriate. Cheers and Regards
  17. I have no idea, but it might help you get an answer if you specified which .dll you are trying to modify, what the modification is, and how, or with which tool you are trying to modify the .dll. Cheers and Regards
  18. Welcome to MSFN! Cheers and Regards
  19. I think we can all agree that nLite is a powerful and flexible enough tool that it allows the user to get on over their head and do enough damage to the build they are trying to make that it can become unusable for the purpose the build was intended for by the user, forcing the user to have to start over from scratch to make a successful build. Yes, nLite can be used on an nLited source, just as yes, explosives can be used safely and constructively. But care must be taken in either case, and preferably after some training and practice. Cheers and Regards
  20. Sarcasm huh. Well I wish them luck with that for they are going to have a mighty good time trying to crack that one Yeah. We have enough of a hard time here when people can't tell when jaclaz is using sarcasm. Cheers and Regards
  21. PLEASE POST AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION FOR ALL POSTS. THIS IS AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE FORUM. Thank you. Cheers and Regards
  22. If I understand what you are saying, the "restoring in a few seconds" applies to restoring an image inside the VM, correct? That is different than taking an image of a "real" install using Acronis True Image, Macrium Reflect, etc, and then later restoring that image back to actual hardware, not a VM, correct? I just want to be sure we're comparing apples to apples. I assume the restoring to metal will, of course, take much longer. Cheers and Regards
  23. Then maybe it's something that nLite does to cause incompatibilities with WinNTSetup? if that is true, then nuhi might be willing and able to fix the problem. That would be wonderful if it was indeed a change in one tool that would enable successful use of all the various update packs with WinNTSetup. Cheers and Regards
  24. This is pretty much the look that I'm going for, though I have tried WindowBlinds in the past and disliked it. Basically what is in the screenshot, with blur in the titlebar section. Everything else, such as getting rid of the borders graphics, etc I have already done with a theme. So it is not that you need the three borders besides the titlebar to not have blur, you just want them small enough so that you can't tell whether they have blur or not. That seems to be a theme related issue. Cheers and Regards
  25. Not to mention gender and sexual orientation insulting, among others, and just plain rude and tactless. I know it's ROTS, so we should be used to it, but that's no excuse. He does get very tiring. I'm very surprised we have tolerated his behavior as long as we have. Cheers and Regards
