  1. AFAIK, most updates are language neutral, so applying them should apply to both, especially if it is a single image with two language packs. Cheers and Regards
  2. Did you look here - How to Enable or Disable Desktop Composition in Windows 7 and Vista? Cheers and Regards
  3. If you take the approach that the place that "Metro" apps are best used are on phones or tablets with screens that are smaller than what are typically found on a desktop PC or larger laptop, then that behavior of those Apps to default to the full height of the screen becomes expected and even acceptable in those situations. Now if the app developer wants to have users use those Apps on larger screens, then indeed the height and width of the App window should be able to be specified and/or adjusted by the user. Cheers and Regards
  4. The way I understand it, there is also apparently sometimes a slight difference in the way things are applied through WU vs if you download the updates separately and apply them yourself to either a live or offline source. ie if you download the updates yourself you have to download KB3021952, KB3023607 and KB3036197 and apply each of them. But if you use WU to apply KB3021952, then it will automatically download and apply all three of them, but only tell you it applied KB3021952. When you "I add them all to a base image containing only IE11 and it says I still need KB3021952.", what it was really complaining about was you were missing KB3023607 and/or KB3036197, but it just called it KB3021952. You can tell this is true when you compare the size of what it says it is going to download and install as the missing KB3021952. It's much smaller than the size of KB3021952. That's also why "I updated my laptop by WU and it doesn't need KB3021952 a second time". Cheers and Regards
  5. Hello, again. Cheers and Regards
  6. As is true with most forums, the best way to pass files to other forum members is to upload your file to the file sharing service of your choice, there are many of them that are free - such as 15 Great Free Online File Sharing Alternatives - and many of them are anonymous Then just place a link to the file in the forum using the "link" button. For photos, use a photo sharing service and place a link in the forum using the "Image" button. Cheers and Regards
  7. You can also try to use - http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/12295-legacy-net-framework-aio-for-xp-x86-12-3-2014/ - NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 x86 plus updates already integrated specifically intended for install on XP x86. Note: It will still take a while to install. That's just the way .NET installers work. AFAIK, they ALL take a long time to install. Cheers and Regards
  8. Exactly what is written, want me to draw for you to understand? Yes, please. Cheers and Regards
  9. Meaning? Then what will happen? Is that a threat or some kind of veiled promise? Hopefully, I have misunderstood you. Cheers and Regards
  10. It has done that for quite awhile. Instead, you could write it as id1ot or id10t or idi0t. Cheers and Regards
  11. I also did not have a non-administrative account handy, and all my command windows are automatically elevated. OS - Win7 x64 Language - English (1) N/A (2) N/A (3) N/A (4) N/A (5) OK (6) OK (7) - People should already know, but their anti-virus could possibly interfere with this script, so it should be temporarily disabled before running the script, unless your script could be configured to test for an offending condition ( probably too complicated to be worthwhile )? I have Win7 x64 Ultimate and run as an admin, but when I ran the script with my anti-virus enabled - COMODO Internet Security with HIPS [Host-based intrusion prevention system -- ie a sandbox] - then the script got into an endless loop where it said I was not running elevated, BAD, spawned a new command window, and repeated forever until I killed the script with CTRL-C. Output from 5 and 6: Vista , or later, ...BUILTIN\Administrators Alias S-1-5-32-544 Mandatory group, Enabled by default, Enabled group, Group ownerOK, I am a local admin ...Mandatory Label\High Mandatory Level Label S-1-16-12288 Mandatory group, Enabled by default, Enabled group ... and I am running elevated, good.Press any key to continue . . . Imagine that this is an actually useful command executed in elevated mode.Volume - C: is NOT Dirty Press any key to continue . . .
  12. Welcome to MSFN! Cheers and Regards
  13. You could very well be correct as to "reading" vs "writing". But then if Win7 no longer reads thumbs.db, then why would it bother to write to it? I guess it is it probably just one more in the looong list of "stooopid" things that MS has done lately. And no argument about it working better without it. Cheers and Regards
  14. I think you might be mistaken. Quoting from jaclaz's last link: Unless I read that wrong, it seems that, unless the default behavior is changed like you always do, then Windows Explorer still utilizes "the local thumbs.db", but I could be wrong. Cheers and Regards
  15. @glnz, Since you have the means, time, interest and inclination to experiment, I hope you also try to update XP mode with SP4, if for no other reason than to confirm whether it works or not. Of course, confirming the other methods will be useful as well. It's always nice to have options, and some might prefer one method over the other. Cheers and Regards

    bit rusted

AFAIK that works. Cheers and Regards
  17. Welcome! Cheers and Regards
  18. It was down for at least 4 hours for me. In case you were not aware of it, a place has been established over at RyanVM were we can keep each other apprised of the status of MSFN when it is down. - MSFN.org state Cheers and Regards
  19. Like I said, I haven't used it yet either, so I could have misunderstood. But this is the conversation I remembered from back in Oct 2014: Cheers and Regards
  20. BP is fine. Don Martin from Mad Magazine? Of course! Couldn't you tell form the look of me in my avatar and sig? From what I've read, you can use the recommended downloaded file, [ 1. WindowsXP-USP4-v2-x86-ENU.exe (recommended) ], obviously an .exe, and just run that file while within the running XP mode to update it "live". But I have not done this myself. As I said this is just what I have read. When you go to the cloud download location, you will find some help in the Documentation folder, including some videos in the SP4 Deployment Guide sub-folder, which includes one specifically about SP4 Live Installation. There should be enough info there to get you started. Cheers and Regards
  21. To tie it up for glnz, again, - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171171-introducing-unofficial-windows-xp-sp4/?p=1093784. Cheers and Regards
  22. @glnz, I could be wrong, but I think that you can apply SP4 while in XP mode to update XP mode like you are trying to do. I haven't tried it, but I think I read that somewhere, probably over at RyanVM. Cheers and Regards
  23. Here is a tweak that should revert the XAML start menu to the non-XAML start menu: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]"EnableXamlStartMenu"=dword:00000000This will allow sub folders and lets you manually resize the start menu to any size (not just full screen or auto). Cheers and Regaards
  24. Let me guess, sheeple farming? Cheers and Regards
