My Browser Builds (Part 1)
dencorso replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Do try the latest Basilisk, then. Basilisk/UXP is forked from FF esr 52.x.x and is being compiled for XP by @roytam1, in parallel to New Moon. But, IMO, Basilisk/UXP is the best alternative, in what regards overal compatibility... it's sort of like if FF esr 52.x.x were still being developed, and with XP-specific support in mind, on top of it. -

I had no problem to fill it, using @roytam1's latest Basilisk/UXP with that tweak I described added. See: -
Of course, he wasn't! the problem post was cc333's. Then again, let's let sleeping threads lie, please.

My Browser Builds (Part 1)

There never has been a FF esr 53.x.x ... -
I don't understand: for Renesas/NEC USB 3.0 (PCI\VEN_1912&DEV_0014) on XP, there actually is an official working driver (I should know, I use it on one of my machines), namely renesas_usb_3.0.23.1, findable at station-drivers. It works flawlessly. Now, for Intel USB 3.0 (PCI\VEN_8086) on XP, there isn't now, and there hasn't ever been, any working driver.

Well, after revising the full POSReady 2009 updates ported to Windows XP SP3 ENU, I'm sorry to say the original posts describing the initial issues observed are among those which fell down the memory hole, so I need your help to reconstitute their contents. I do remember that I was among those who 1st noticed something was wrong because (i) when downloading any archive with FF, then clicking on the folder icon to the right of the file name at the downloads list nothing happened (instead of it causing a windows explorer window to open at the folder where the downloaded file were); (ii) when right-clicking on any desktop icon, selecting "Properties", then clicking on the "Go to file" button, nothing happened (instead of it causing a windows explorer window to open at the folder where the linked-to file is); . But I seem to remember dimly there was (iii) an issue with Avast, too (or was it with Malwarebytes Antimalware; ?), IINM. (iv) an issue with Windows Live Mail; (v) it broke down copying files in between partitions/disks; (vi) "Cannot write file. Code 10,242,7" error on attempting to scan from a Canon scanner/printer combo; (vii) the network tray icon stops working or doesn't appear anymore ... And last, but not least, (viii) Karspersky stops working (and crashes on trying to run it)! The workaround is to PM @heinoganda and install his modded update, which uses the oleaut32.dll from KB4018556-v2, but renumbered to satisfy MU/WU. Those of you all who remember more details please do post a reply and I shall include your info here in this post. TIA.

That's what I always loved most about mechanic typewriters: none BSoDed on one, ever! Weren't 'em great?

Root Certificates and Revoked Certificates for Windows XP
dencorso replied to heinoganda's topic in Windows XP
I think so. You got the same results as I did. -
Prudence is always good, but, provided there's one %windir%\system32\oleaut32.dll things will work OK. A second identical copy at %windir%\system32\dllcache\oleaut32.dll should be present, too, but just for the sake of backup, as you do know. And absence of %windir%\system32\oleaut32.dll will cause a lot of things not to work, but should not prevent booting and reaching desktop.

Since you're @rloew's customer (like myself) you can always ask him for his help. I'm sure he can create a custom fix for your case, which may be the 1st of a similar series, since you're using a rather recent motherboard. Do PM him.
-
Well, of course you can! ... sort of: boot Win 7 and search your XP partition for all copies of oleaut32.dll and delete 'em all! Then boot XP (it should still boot despite that missing file) and install heinoganda's modded update. This procedure works. What we don't know, however, is whether your current issue is due to oleaut32.dll, but if it is, then this procedure must solve it.

+1 (on my various 7 SP1 boot partitons).

Which motherboard exactly are you using?

Then again, it's perfect for reading chinese or mongol wall newspapers in .pdf, while standing in the kitchen, of course!

Like I said a fridge (with the usual small freezer) on top *plus* a stand-alone freezer of the same size for the same amount needed to buy an iPhone 8/8+ !!! And the same holds in Brazil as in Italy. Ain't it preposterous? And there are plenty of Samsings and Huaweis here to satisfy one's every smartphony (pun intended) need (if any) for way less than that.

Anyone else having problems with many 2018 updates for POSR 2009?

2 Qs: (i) just YouTube videos or those from CNN, BBC, Twitter, too? (ii) have you tried to replace the CR2032 battery? -
Bear in mind, however, that, while in the US the federal minimum wage is US$7.25 per hour, it's just about US$ 2.00 (PPP) per hour, in São Paulo State in Brazil (the highest in the country), and some 60% of the population earns less than that (if at all, we've got a 13% official unenployment rate)...

In Brazil, like in any of the BRICS (just under 45% of the world's population), Macs are just a luxury, except maybe for musicians or graphic artists with no tech inclinations. Why, here in Brazil, the same money that pays for a resonably top-tier iPhone can buy one both a freezer and a fridge, not a combo, mind you, and both frost free. Is it insane or what?

I, for one, only buy original, seal unbroken, boxed FPP, with no geo limitations on activation. YMMV, though.
