Well, yes: storport.sys v. 5.2.3790.4173 (from KB957910)... but, then, no: is there actually any SCSIPORT.SYS in Server 2k3? the problem is complex anyway, because the early loading (when needed) of scsiport.sys is hardcoded into the XP NT-Kernel, and cannot be disabled from the registry (or replaced by storport.sys).

Of course, Dietmar deseves respect, and, in what regards to contributing, he did so more than most already. That said, his results with Kai's NVMe.sys were quite different than mine, and I suspect that's due to the fact he used a single NVMe disk stand-alone (and hence caused XP not to load scsiport.sys during start-up), while my results were due to my not being interested in actually booting from NVMe, but just using it on a system booted from any other device, and so doing it in a machine with other SATA HDDs and SSDs (which lead XP to load scsiport.sys, and this *seems* to be the reason why storport.sys fails to load afterwards). This is a question that remains to be eventully elucidated. Another thing is the "modded acpi.sys" which is referred to here and there, most often at Fernando's, but not released in any form nor, AFAIK, described suficiently for others to reproduce the mod. By now it's pretty clear that either modding the actual board BIOS or (much better) replacing the default acpi.sys by a modded one is of paramount importance to get useful results from Sunrise Point and later chipsets. And, BTW, for those wondering, no: there is *NO* intel USB3.x drivers for XP up to the present. But, for non-intel USB3.0 controllers, drivers do exist and work well (Renesas/NEC and ASMedia, at least). But all in due time. I, for one, right now, am just curious, nothing more, of course!

Is that a question? If so, what about giving it a question mark at the end?

I know how hard it is. I'm laughing because @bluebolt's reply is loaded wth fine irony (a rare thing, nowadays). In fact, in the far past, when I used pine through telneting to one of the mainframes I had accounts on for e-mail, I used to ftp everything back to me from time to time. Then I moved on to using webmail and never looked back. Nowadays, I save local copies of everything I deem important (say... about 1% of what remains after eliminating the spam that got through my filters) and the rest I know I may loose, just like I did when My Way closed suddenly on me. But life is like that. I know by now that I rarely reference old messages, except sometimes to carve a forgotten e-mail address (because I don't use electronic address books in any form to prevent any possible invader from getting my contact list the easy way) or to find out whether some more distant contact's issue are one or more daughter or son or both and which age they are and maybe even their names (!). Thus, I reckon the if I suddenly lost all my archived past e-mails, my apparent social skills (if any) would be somewhat impaired. But that's no big loss... and time heals it. I've never kept a personal journal nor do have many physical photos around (let alone those electronic ones like .tiffs, .pngs or the horribly lossy .jpegs one cannot enlarge decently). My memories are inside my head. Someday they'll be gone like tears in rain. But I'm fine with that.

Man, whatever you've smoked, it was real strong! No offense meant but... the ARPANET turns 50 next Oct 30, so that's simply not possible (let alone inside OE6)...

My Browser Builds (Part 1)
dencorso replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Well, it does work without crashing on Chrome 49.0.2623.112 m (with pepper Flash 32.0.0.156 enabled)... which is good enough for me. -
Don't hold your breath, though...

HP nx6110 Laptop - 915 chipset - running great but need driver help
dencorso replied to Aeridyne's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I haven't been much around the community since I've given up on 9x/ME some 5 years ago, but I'm not totally forgetful yet, so this post is just to remind you of 2 things: A.) Audio drivers for 2k usually can be successfuly installed on 98SE with Rloew's WDMEX.VxD or Walter Oney's WDMSTUB.SYS, and WDMCHECK.SYS can be used to find their dependencies. B.) Thee EeePC 70x and 900 are both based in the 915 chipset, so @Sfor's old results may be useful for your present quest: -

I found a bug (?) in Serpent/UXP (at the moment I'm using 2019.03.23, but the two previous versions also manifest it). Go to this site https://www.nature.com/immersive/d42859-019-00001-7/index.html, click on "Enter the site", then click on any of the element symbols presented, the on the image related to the same element that appears, then an entry text corresponding to that element will appear. At ths point move slowly down with the mouse until a crash on plugin-container.exe. By dismissing it one can continue browsing normally but the crash will reappear more times, until one closes the Interative Periodic Table site tab, after which action it won't reappear, unless one goes once again to that site and repeats the above procedure. It's harmless, but it's a bug nonetheless, so I'm reporting it. Attached is some more info. appcompats.7z -
That one is easy: untick the ticked box to the left of the update title and the "Don't show this update again" will become active automagically. Welcome to MSFN!

Browsers & Programs that will install & run w/o requiring SSE2
dencorso replied to Ninho's topic in Software Hangout
You mean: "hydroelectric power"? In any case, I do agree about the desk real estate. And they gave off a lot of heat, also. And were real heavy. As for definition of image, I suppose you've never used a good old 19" Iris workstation CRT monitor, did you? My only complaint about good LED / LCDs is the widescreen format: the old more-or-less square CRTs had much more screen real state than current widescreen LED / LCDs... particularly when you're stuck with a 14" monitor, as I do sometimes at work. But that's a problem that has spilt over from TVs, and not the other way around. Then again, the current 25" rotatable by 90° displays are awesome! -

Yes. Silently, because there wasn't much to say about it. You're welcome! -
Well. On either FF 52.9.1 esr or the latest @roytam1 Serpent/UXP, Google Earth Web says my browser is not yet (!) supported, whereas on Google Chrome 49.0.vvv.112 m it says "Unfortunately your computer does not support WebGL graphics acceleration; Google Earth cannot be loaded. Please try another device." Well, this is XP SP3 on a 3770K i7 powered Azus P8Z68-V LX... GPU-Z.2.15.0 (the last version which works OK on XP SP3, BTW) gives the report shown below. So, no... I guess not. If Google Earth 7.1.8.3036 works on my machine, on XP, great. Else, I'll try the web version on the latest Google Chrome on an alternate Win 7 SP1 boot partition, but if it really wants WebGL, then that's that.

Erm... @sdfox7: Is it still working? Is that the very last on that works on XP?

There is no such thing as "abandonware", at least not from MS/Adobe/Oracle/Apple.

Install these 3 updates, if you´ve not done it already. The 1st one you will need the FRA version, but the others are multilanguage. Reboot after each one. Then try again. WindowsXP-KB898461-x86-FRA.exe - Permanent copy of the Package Installer for Windows (KB898461); WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe - Windows Installer 4.5 (KB942288); WindowsUpdateAgent-7.6-x86.exe, using the /wuforce switch, on the command-line;

MSE 4.4.304.0 is still able to auto-update and to update from it's internal update tab. Both on XP SP3 and on 7 SP1 (yes, I still use 4.4.304.0 on 7 SP1, too, by choice). Then there is @heinoganda's MSE_DEF_UPD_v1.5, which is available on another thread, in this selfsame subforum. The current MPAM-FE.EXE itself don't work anymore on XP, but the definitions inside it do, that's why @heinoganda has created the updater. As for Windows 7, I think the current MPAM-FE.EXE may still work for 4.4.304.0, but haven't ever had the need to actually try it. Also, although you did not actually ask about it, but MU/WU still do offer definition updates for 4.4.304.0, which, when accepted, intall correctly and work OK.

You are using a single core processor. In that case, the only solution available for you is to hide KB4486463. But it's all right! It's offered again and again due to a badly conceived installation check. The posts quoted below tell more about it. The default in XP mode is to have just one core in the virtual CPU. As such it behaves as a sigle core CPU and KB4486463 installs but does not substitute %windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. It's OK! Hide it, and forget about it.

Why post it here? I doubt you could find something more off-topic even if trying twice as hard.

Done!
