    IE8 coming

    And it passes acid2 tests.
  3. I'd unplug everything except the keyboard, mouse and monitor. If the keyboard and/or mouse are USB, use a USB to PS2 converter.
  4. Moved to Tweaks forum.

    User Accounts

Definitely start by re-enabling System Restore and letting this be a lesson to never again disable it. You may be able to delete the new account Windows made and you may be able to recover the old account.

    Vize for XP?

I personally would love to see one officially released by or supported by XPero.
  7. Did you try using gpedit.msc as they mention? Change Method To change the value of this entry, use the Group Policy Object Editor (Gpedit.msc). The corresponding policy is located in Administrative Templates\Desktop.
  8. A simple phone call is all it takes. You exceeded the allotted number of activations for a certain period of time due to the unusually high number of reinstalls. Formatting 14 times is rather extreme, and the reason they are blocking activation is to prevent piracy.
  9. Did you contact the manufacturer about it? Sometimes they will even give you the recovery cds, especially if you are under warranty.
  10. Avast all the way, it works perfectly on Windows Server 2003.
  11. Yeah, I am. I use these to help beta test a lot of new anti-malware applications. If anyone gets a huge collection, please do let us know.
  12. Boot into Safe Mode and scan the Windows directory.
  13. Do not disable services, ever.
  14. It sounds like they're getting restored from the dllcache folder. So you may want to try going into the command prompt and running sfc /purgecache then scanning your Windows directory for viruses.
  15. Try this to clean up: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

  17. You can either believe a lot of reviews that get paid off to have their product listed as the top, or you can listen to people with real world experience, etc. While it is true that Norton 2007 has improved, it hasn't gotten much better from their previous versions. Despite how Norton has tried to improve, I have had to repair things such as SSL, Norton firewall blocking issues when it was disabled, etc. We tried to fix it and then uninstalled Norton to prove it was the source of many issues. After using SymNRT to fully remove Norton, a reboot and everything the user reported as not working worked again.
  18. I've had to fix a lot of computers that had Norton 2007 on them, 90% of the issues stemmed from Norton.
  19. This is why many people advise others to avoid nLite. You're only setting yourself up for more problems than it's worth. Hard drive space is not an issue in this day and age, nor is RAM. A regular install of Windows works perfectly for every purpose needed.
  20. You should uninstall Google Toolbar, toolbars hook onto the IE shell which can cause side effects like Explorer crashes.
  21. Remember those who are on dialup and be sure to check the rules. You may want to get an image gallery where people can simply go to http://my.image.host/rado354/index.php and browse from there.
  22. If I could only pick between the two, I'd go with Avira. Though your best bet would be avast.
  23. damian, Under Windows XP, what are you using for taskbar transparency?
  24. Comodo 3 has been causing issues lately, so you may want to use 2.4 instead. Also if you are concerned about missing or corupt files, run sfc /scannow
  25. Agreed, they just get paid off to put <product name who gives most money> as number one.
