  3. @ JFX Thanks to you for this new version, just downloaded beta 3, I'll test install in compact mode using as source an *.esd and report back. Also I want to share the easiest way to install wofadk.sys in our current 7 or 8.x OS, to make it able to run wofadk service on it: Once you run WinNTSetup the first time, just copy wofadk.sys from folder Tools\x64\DISM or Tools\x86\DISM according to your current OS to: C:\Windows\System32\drivers then run the attached WofAdk.reg to register it and reboot. After reboot open a command as administrator and type net start wofadk and enter to make sure the service is running. Best Regards alacran EDIT: From a 7SP-1x64 PC, I made an install Compact mode Xpress8k to a VHD using as source 10x64 install.esd, It ended fine, WinNTSetup.log looks there was no issue, It took long time to finish unfortunately I didn't measure it. Latter booting from this VHD all is OK. Wofadk reg file.7z
  4. @ NoelC Too much work for nothing and stupid time comsumption. 10 is not better than 7 in any way, I'm going to stay on 7 in all my 4 PC's for as long as possible, (I don't like 8.x). Thanks to you for all your time and effort trying to fix this nightmare. Best Regards alacran
  5. I totally agree, it has a good collection of changes required in registry, but that is not enough. We need to make a second filter using Firewall in OS, and maybe a third one using Router settings, and blocking all ports we don't have an specific need for them. It has to be a way to stop this "phone home" behavior on 10. I'm using 7 and running Windows Firewall Notifier on it there is almost nothing to block.

  7. @ NoelC I have 10 installed in a testing PC & tried to import your Firewall Policies but they didn't work on live system. (Yours are made for a VM) Selecting in Windows Firewall Notifier "block and promp" all inbound & Outbond traffic, just allowing Avast and FireFox to connect. First 10 or 20 minutes I didn't have time to do any thing than blocking outgoing traffic, even this was after ran Shutup10 blocking every thing. Then change the setting to "block silently" just to rest a little, Any way I noticed on "Firewall rules" there is a lot not blocked and I think it has to be done directly in Windows Firewall, to only allow "local subnet" connections. I would appreciate a lot if you can tell me what is needed to let Windows Update run properly. BTW I ran Windows Firewall Notifier on Win7 and it is boring, almost nothing to block (I didn't install any KB in dencorso's list http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173752-how-to-avoid-being-upgraded-to-win-10-against-your-will/ ) Best Regards
  8. First during install I deselect all related to info going out of the PC, latter after first boot once again did same thing, I also put a very long list in host file redirected to 0.0.0.0, (just in case it blocks some of them) then ran Shutup10 blocking every thing and rebooted. After reboot and make a copy of Firewall Policies ran Windows Firewall Notifier and there were a lot of connections on line, so Shutup10 DO NOT BLOCK all is required. Best Regards
  9. Once again thanks JFK, it is working great, I tested it in my 7SP1x86 PC and made 2 Compact 8K installs to VHD's one is 7SP1x64 and the other is 10x64, both working fine. Only thing I notice is my source has to be .wim, If an .esd is the source, I can make a normal install, but selecting Compact install (any K option) your tool seems to start deploying and aborts. Best Regards
  10. No way, nothing on 10 is "WOW". This thread is about "colored tittle bar" only posted to let OP know last info about the feature.
  11. I read in new beta you can make Titlebars in colour now, of course I'm not going to install it just to confirm it.
  12. First: Obviously I didn't see it when I posted this. Second: Here it is the info about how it works and what changes it makes in the registry, which may or may not be of some use for other members (You need to login, in order to have access to MDL post). Third: I am not recommending or criticizing this tool. My point here is as said in first post: Fourth: As it is usual in all forums any moderator is free to relocate or delete this thread. Best Regards
  13. Well it looks every day more people and also sofware companies are starting to try to stop this spying tactics in Win10 see here for more info and download: http://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=NL2262-weblink&utm_campaign=oonewsletter2262 Here's what the program changes when you apply all settings: (all green) If you want a batch file: Source: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/64401-App-O-amp-O-ShutUp10 Best Regards
  14. Diferent use for each device and/or program: Yes we know they spy people when they use Google search or Google browser but you have many more alternatives and you are able to use it only for certain things or not use it. About android yes we all know they spy us but that's why we do never think in put in our cell phone our credit card info or many other important things as all our private life in it as we just can lose the device or it may be stolen. About Chrome OS I will never use it as OS, but anyway devices using it are only toys. Same goes for all Apple devices and IOS. But on our PC this is a very diferent approach as first having biger storage it is able to content all we can put in it, we have in it all our life, bank accounts info and more private info, this is very personal not a toy as the cell phone or the tablet. I am not worry about goverment agencies, they are not going to use the info for any other thing than security (and they will get the info ALLWAYS). What worry me is how long is going to take the hackers to enter in MS servers and make a copy of all this info, I am sure they are working in it right now, as this is now the big target. So it is very diferent use for each device, and an OS spying all the info in hard disk and all we do in the PC (online and offline) it's something we must not allow. So we have only two alternatives: Install a Linux OS (not my preference). Or go back (or stay) to Win7 which is less invasive to let MS know we do not want Win10 this way (as they understood Win8x had to be replaced ASAP) and start learnig Linux (just in case). Best Regards
  15. @ NoelC I'm very interested in your findings, thanks to you very much for keeping us informed. I'm going to be checking this thread every day. I found another free tool to manage Windows Firewall to block everything (incoming and outgoing) and then let you set the exceptions, but no popups when blocking someting, they say it works on Win10: http://tinywall.pados.hu/ Best Regards
  16. VLC Media Player, It is free and has a full set of codecs, I haven't found a format that it can't play: http://www.videolan.org/vlc
  17. First let me tell you I am a Windows user since v3.11, second I don't use any version of Linux on my PC, but with recent info about privacy issues in Win10 I don't know how this is going to end. Free Software Foundation article: "Microsoft's Software is Malware" is here: http://www.gnu.org/proprietary/malware-microsoft.en.html I know they are using this to promote free software as Linux, but I think reading the full page and all links in it is someting we all shoud do and then make our own conclusions. Best Regards
  18. This is new page with last updates, it is feeware, surce code is available too: http://wfn.codeplex.com/ Edit: Site on line again now, but anyway this is another option: https://sekharpadikkal.wordpress.com/2013/04/12/making-windows-firewall-complete-block-outgoing-connections-and-get-notified/ and this is product page: http://www.binisoft.org/wfc.php but in order to get full features you need to register it making a "donation".
  19. You are right, it is better block everything and then set the exceptions, this is the way this tool works: http://www.howtogeek.com/113641/how-to-extend-the-windows-firewall-and-easily-block-outgoing-connections/
  20. As MS can not be trusted anymore I guess same is valid for his firewall, let me suggest you another free alternative PeerBlock http://www.peerblock.com/ And having a list of all MS sites you want to block, that should be good enought. Anyway if you want to use Win firewall there is some info and a downloadable Script for it on this page: http://cyber-defense.sans.org/blog/2011/10/25/windows-firewall-script-block-addresses-network-ranges, again you only need a list for all sites you want to block. Best Regards
  21. As you said drivers from driverpacks.net are three years out of date. Best way is go directly to equipment manufacturer page to get drivers, some times you can also go to Intel, Realtek or any other brands page to get latest drivers versions for the components.
  22. @ JFX Once again Thanks to you for your GREAT tool. Every new version has new features. I just downloaded your last version 3.85b1, and let it download needed files running it from Win7X64 SP-1, I have some questions: It looks there is no need anymore to start these way "WinNTSetup_x64.exe NT6 -compact" as without it now I see all options just selecting Mode. 1.- Is that right? If I select Win10 install.esd and select Mode some option are available: Wimboot Marked RED, Compact: XPRESS 4K marked GREEN, all other XPRESS options marked YELLOW 2.- I assume RED is DON'T DO IT, GREEN is OK TO DO IT, and Whats the meaning of YELLOW?, Is it you can do it, but it is not recommended? If I select Win8.1u1 install.esd or install.wim (I have one ISO who has .esd and another who has .wim) and selecting Mode all options are RED 3.- Why? I know this version is at least wimboot capable. If I select Win7 install.wim and selecting Mode all option are RED. 4.- Do I need to do something else to have this options available? 5.- Does color code has another meaning and not the one I think? Best Regards
  23. If you didn't have written this paragraph, I could think you work in MS. (Just joking). Come on fellow don't tell me you like metro apps on desktop OS. Or Are you talking about using 10 on a movil device?
  24. On 10 threre are also some controls or joysticks not allowed because they have not been previously authorized. Even if they work with previous versios of OS. https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adslzone.net%2F2015%2F08%2F11%2Fwindows-10-podria-bloquear-juegos-pirata-y-perifericos-no-autorizados%2F&sandbox=1 I guess next week update is going to block mouse and keyboard, and USB sticks next month. Because they are unsafe as they are not MS previously authorized, We should be glad MS is helping us to protect our system !!!! There is no doubt it's only another way to force us use their store to buy their products. And what is going to happend when they start selling MS Monitors on their store? Are we going to get an update blocking our monitor forcing us to buy a MS monitor in order to can use our PC? This is going to end even worst than Apple.
  25. Any comments about new KB's just released, I'm not going to apply any one of them until I get info from you guys. (Win7 x64 user). I do not trust MS any more. Almost all of KB's just repeat same description (nothing is clear now), and if I check for more info online every thing looks hiding a second intention. They are making me paranoic. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your comments. I know this is 8 forum but here is this topic.
