-9 F here in Western Mass. It's not uncommon that someone is trying to access your computer,that's why you have the firewall enabled.Your firewall took care of it.As for the trojan you need to run up to date antivirus software to find it.I agree with Drew,that system repair could restore system files to a non corrupt state.Also if your system was running fine say earlier in the week you can run the Win XP system restore feature.It's in Start/All Programs/accessories/system tools.And there is always "scannow /sfc" typed in the run command with the xp cd inserted.Let us know if you need more help I'm sure there is a solution that will get you up and running again.

Everything I would try.Also if your video card has a bios that can be flashed do so because the latest drivers for it may not work correctly with the older bios.Sounds like overheating to me also.Not only the video card fan but the cpu fan for sure can cause this.If either fan is the culprit you may need a windows motherboard monitor for your desktop.MBM 5 is good if your board supports health status in bios.Fan RPM's and other vitals are displayed. http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ GO HERE

There are a lot of good boards out there.Go to say Tom's Hardware or Overclockers,Extreme Tech or another recomended site where they test the latest mobos.Usually there will be 4 or 5 top rated with the latest updates.Personally I like Abit,but I have built Epox,FIC,ECS,and some not so reliable brands.Chip speed is a factor but look for features such as serial ATA,USB 2.0,fastest FSB,RAID,8x AGP,1394a firewire.New out are the Nforce2 Nvidia mobos which have 6 top contenders.Abit NF7-S,Chaintech 7NJS,Asus A7N8X,Epox 8RDA+,Leadtech K7NCR18D pro,and MSI K7N2.Those are AMD based.For Intel There are Intel D850EMV2,Asus P4T533-C,Iwill P4R533-N,DFI NT72 SA,VIA P4PB 400,Shuttle AS45GTR.Those are the best so far,in 3mos. there will be a new batch.

You kinda answered your own question sakkans.By reached I assume you mean accessed.And if you accessed from your XP partition of your dual boot system at one time then installed a virtual drive software program and had no access then as Xperties mentioned,uninstall the dog that bit you.Let us know what happens.

Regcleaner works for me too but make sure you backup.

I'm not very proficient at the various cd-rw formats.I use Drive Image for my own recovery cd's but 13 gig took 2.5 hrs. and 14 cd's. Does your recovery cd just return the system back to a basic out of the box state?
