There is a reason for builders to build with AMD.MOST people that build are not Tom's Hardware and don't have the large cash too buy rediculously priced Intel cpu's and Intel mobos. You have to wait a long time before the Intel price comes down before it is feasible to buy. As a builder you can put together a higher quality and fast system using AMD including the motherboard than a comparable Intel.You can buy a store bought Intel with a less quality mobo and think your getting a deal,same with AMD there. On our front page news recently there was an article stating that AMD had won an award for the best processor because they were addressing both 32 and 64 bit applications with their newest cpu.AMD is in my opinion the cpu for the masses with performance and reliability on the top shelf with Intel.Whew,I'm glad I got my biased opinion out!

There are several heat sinks out there with heat pipes and from what I've read the pipes take the heat away as you've said FthrJack,and the results were good because less size and rpm's are required hence a quieter fan.There was not a drastic temp drop but enough to be worth cooling down a hot Thunderbird or XP.The Coolermaster HHC-01 and the Thermalright SLK-800 are two air heat pipe sinks.Joe Citarella,who writes for OC.com says that air can only do so much but water is 100 times more efficient.Water pump heatsinks are the best performers though.Here is the real deal for cooling,the Senfu 2 water cooling system.Senfu2

I'm going to look into the 8500 even.Compared to my Radeon 64mb ddr vivo,whatever I can get that will boost my 3d mark score from 3564.There is a computer show coming up in march so I'll wait and see.When I bought this original Radeon they were going for $399 and I got it for $200 at the show.I have a GeForce 4 that is a little better but as far as getting an fx I just can't see paying the $400.

Just a note Barto,on your slow perfomance.With a high end graphics card such as the Ti 4200 which has ddr memory and the Asus mobo running only PC133 your AGP is trying to get what you mobo,processor,and memory don't have.Your system as it stands may run better with a non ddr graphics card unless the 1942 game requires ddr graphics acceleration.I have an old slot a Abit mobo and tried running a Radeon ddr card and got very unstable results.I now run a Rage Fury 32mb sdr card and the perfomance is very good on that system.I agree with FathrJack with buying a good mobo and adding mid-grade components such as cpu and memory,you can upgrade later and satisfy your need for speed.

Here is what I did to match my Abit mobo with the right memory,and they guarantee compatibility.Go here 1stChoiceMemory You have to buy the better or precision brand but your getting something more reliable I think. Edit;I checked for your mobo and initially there is no match but when ordering the better memory look at whether it is compatible and it says to list the model of mobo.They will match it up for you.Pretty expensive memory.

I heard some poison gas expert on MSNBC news say that even all taped up eventually 10% of the gas could get through and that the real issues were identifying the gas and having an antidote ready.You can slow it down but there is something gonna get in there.The hospitals are not even close to being ready.Saadam has used this stuff on the Kurds with devestating success.I'd say inner cities better look into some prevention like the Israelis have done.Like someone previously said Terrorism is not going away anytime soon.

I have a usb powered hub so they do exist.I use it with a usb switch so I can use all my usb devices ie.satelllite modem,scanner,printer,mouse,and card reader and share them with 4 computers.D-Link DSB-H4 is the name and model for the hub.I would certainly welcome a wireless version,I've got wires everywhere.
