Sounds like a faulty power supply.You could have a faulty mobo but usually you'd know within 30 days of operating.(good burn in period for electronics).If your so inclined a good thing to do is take the mobo out and check the mount points on the chassis.Check for burnt areas there as well as anywhere the board may have been grounding out.The board may have been cracked when built and finally gave out.You may have some bad spikes coming in from your electrical service,which a good power strip would kick out before a power supply would "blow up".Try a different brand psu first thing I'd do.Let us know what you find.Good luck.

You need Partition Magic 8 which supports ext 3 linux partitions,or install a second hard drive as I have done and use Mandrake 9's disdrake.It's a bit complicated with the second hd,but I have the instructions if you need them.Essentially you use the XP hard drive as master slave and the linux as primary master and of course use the linux boot loader(lilo) to chose OS's upon boot up.The XP partition shows up as NT.Personally I would purchase Partition Magic 8 if you have a large hard drive.

Hey Lynchnot,I know the feeling of frustration. Just a stab,but if it is an app as they say,try running msconfig and with selective startup selected and unselect anything that you know is web related.IE ,MSN,p2p,antivirus,firewall.Also go to your administrative tools,local security policies and IP security policies on local computer.Look at your secure server and server settings(double click on them)then do the same for All IP and All ICMP traffic and see if under 'connections' that 'all connections'is selected. If they are telling you to reinstall your OS then a config file is missing which an app might have ditched.Try putting your XP cd in and run scannow /sfc,before doing any formating.

Rick, i know it has been pulled for shipping but have you tried calling the distributor that you bought from directly and simply tell them you made a mistake as you have stated.Try pestering them,usually you can get them to take the unwanted item back by buying what you want and then they will credit your account when you send the former back.They give you a RMA # to put on the box.I have done this many times with computer parts.Good luck.

I have just read about the new serial ATA(SATA) hard drives that will be coming soon.There will be few advantages right now.The advantage will be 150mbs vs. 133mbs with parallel ATA.For Raid configurations there will be an even better use of bandwith.Another advantage is the serial cables themselves measuring .25 inches wide offering better airflow.And a serial cable can be up to 39 inches as oposed to the 18 inches limit on parallel.By the year 2007 the 150mbs bandwith will grow to 600mbs,when hardware chipsets catch up.Right now for $79,Promise's TX4 controller and Seagate's preproduction $190 120 GB Barracuda V SATA is the headliner which you will see next month. All I can say is that there is a lot of home networking going on and M$ has been invisioning all along that say a family or even roommates would network their pc's.I believe gamers started this on the home level.Think of the brainstorming "Now with this trend sweeping the nation and world coupled with high speed internet we will sell more operating systems than we ever did and we will make money on some wireless hardware,software games,server software,etc. while we are at it.People will pay an arm and a leg and "borrow" our operating system for their individual systems" It's all about money and playing with money for Bill and rightfully so after all he earned it.I hope that M$ understands that home pc users are always looking for better solutions too.I'm not so sure their marketing people are that in tune to the people ChrisPs.They are more like real estate agents that will act only for themselves,after all the bottom line is more money when they compete for the best ideas.I hope I made sense I'm tired.

Thanks FthrJack and others for their opinions on KaZaa.You guys should really learn to express yourselves more. I don't really know which is best for downloading mp3's.All I know is that WinMx got worse and KaZaa lite is at least better.I'll try Blubster next.Your right too FthrJack,not much of a selection on kazaa and the connections are strange in that they fluxuate from barely to about 50kbs only.
