What is the best program for creating packages?
enuffsaid replied to bertybassett's topic in Application Installs
My favorite would be Wise Package Studio. It can do "snapshots" and create an MSI installer from the snapshot. -
It sure beats the 30+ lined VB script.

Nice command there, Martin!

It's on the frontpage now, but as usual no credit to the original poster (boooggy). I wonder why they keep the Back Page Tech News forum up.

What is the best program for creating packages?
enuffsaid replied to bertybassett's topic in Application Installs
Hi, I remember SMS 2.0 came with its own repackaging tool, although it would only create executables. There's Wise Package Studio, but its expensive. Installshield also have a re-packager. Kind regards, eNuffSaid -
You've posted those EXACT links before here in this thread. And we established then already that they are not the most reliable sources. Why are you posting those links again?

I agree with Martin. At best you can move your pagefile to another drive (not another partition on the same drive as Windows is installed), like martin said already. Martin also says that it would be wiser to let Windows manage your pagefile. Sure you could set it to 256MB, but it would be wiser if you just left it as it is. I know what it feels like to see a huge file on your HDD for which you see no apparent use. Mine is (only) 1.5 Gig (1 Gig RAM), but believe me, you'll get used to it. On the other hand, if MSPaint and MSN Messenger are all you use, go ahead and change it to 256MB. But... I cannot judge what YOU will be doing with your computer in the future. My advise is ALWAYS leave your page file managed by Windows. Again, thanks Martin for your valuable input.

IBM makes great laptops, if not the best. I have a T20 myself, a golden oldie. I upgraded its RAM to 256MB and now run Windows XP flawlessly on it. I see NO reason why it shouldn't work for your model. Try IBM's website and get any HDD drivers or Chipset drivers that may be relevant to your model Laptop. Good luck!

Thanks Martin Zugec for the link @ Skitso My words exactly:

Amen Martin, AMEN!!! We've had so many discussion with regard to this topic before. I've always said fiddling about with the pagefile is a NO-NO. No matter how much memory you have. I've taken (along with KoolDrew) alot of heat from this forum telling people not to fiddle about with their pagefile, while others insisted it was okay to NOT USE a pagefile, without ANY technical documenation to back up their comments. Besides, if one has 4 GIG of RAM, I can only imagine that the HDDs will be proportionally large. (I have still to come across a user with 4 GIG RAM and a 10 GIG or smaller HDD). So why is it such a problem if 4 GIGS are allocated for the pagefile. KoolDrew, friend! You still around? Martin, you don't happen to have a direct link to that article, do you?

How To Make An Administrator Account Automaticly?
enuffsaid replied to svortevik's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
And what's the Norwegian name for "Administrators"? For example, in Dutch, Administrators are "Beheerders." Try using that in you command file; and I mean the Norwegian name for Administrators, not "beheerders" ofcoarse. If you don't know, open up: Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Groups and see what the admin group is named. Hope that helps, 'nuff -
How To Make An Administrator Account Automaticly?

svortevik, are you using a localized version of Windows? -
Exactly, and great reporting too!

Installed everything already on my RIS server. Looks good so far, gonna fiddle about with it, tonite.

Its out! Grab it here. Prerequisites • You must install the Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) 2.0 before installing the WSUS server. BITS 2.0 lets you download updates in the background using available network bandwidth. • MSDE2000a, WMSDE, or SQL Server 2000 with SP3 is required. See the Deployment Guide for complete installation instructions. WMSDE is for Windows Server 2003 only and is included in the WSUS download. Download the Software Complete the registration process and you will automatically receive the files needed to install the product. The download files are large (approximately 130 MB) so the download may take considerable time to complete. To begin the process, click here to register for the download. Get WSUS Server Diagnostic Tool here.

Apple to ditch IBM, switch to Intel chips
enuffsaid replied to harunaksoy's topic in Technology News
That may have been true in the 80's and early 90's. Apple has lost their dominance on the DTP field a looooong time ago. Even Adobe recommend you use WINDOWS machines for Adobe Photoshop. -
It seems that Microsoft have updated their Windows Update to version 6. You may have to install the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool for the site to work. Check it out yourself: Windows Update

Okay, didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Was he forced out of business like Lighting UK! ? EDIT: Found more info with regard to DVDShrink being discontinued. Indeed it seems he is now working for Ahead, and this seems his only motivation to discontinue DVDShrink. Well, sad for us, good for him. EDIT 2: Read more with regard to DVD Shrink being discontinued here.
-
Huh? DVD Shrink gone aswell? Their page is still up. Haven't heard anything about that myself. From what I've heard (I cannot check because the DVDShrink is blocked by our proxy) the DVDDecrypter site IS DOWN (and gone forever). http://www.dvdshrink.org <--- Still up. http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ <--- Down???
-
Sad news... Lightning UK!, the author of DVDDecrypter, has been approached by an undisclosed company, to stop any further development and support of their popular DVDDecrypter, due to circumventing DVD copy protections. For this reason DVDDecrypter will be discontinued. more info: http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/11914 EDIT: Latest DVD Decrypter (v3.5.4.0) version can be found through Google's cache.

Install XP on 200GB drive
enuffsaid replied to sanfistecco's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Hmm... that explains why I've never had this problem. I only use WD drives. -
Checked my settings on the RIS server yesterday, and they are identical to yours, so there's no use posting them. Strange, because when I RIS a machine, I get the option do delete partions, format, etc.
-
Well, perhaps that's where its saved AFTER you logon for the first time as "Nakkoush", but if you're installing all your stuff unattended, its more likely saved in the Default User. You should delete it there, and THEN login for the first time as Nakkoush. Search here for more info about user profiles. Its been discussed endlessly.
