  1. Open your registry and find the key below. System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] Value Name: SFCDisable Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: 0 = enabled (default), ffffff9d = disabled Change the value of "SFCDisable" to equal "ffffff9d" to disable WFS or "0" to enable it. The other valid hexadecimal values are: 1 - disabled, prompt at boot to re-enable 2 - disabled at next boot only, no prompt to re-enable 4 - enabled, with popups disabled ffffff9d - for completely disabled Restart Windows for the change to take effect. Additional Steps for Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 and Windows XP This setting is disabled in Windows 2000 SP2 and Windows XP, and needs to re-enabled using a hex editor and changing SFC.DLL (or SFC_OS.DLL for Windows XP) following these instructions: Windows 2000 SP2 Make a backup the SFC.DLL in the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. Make an additional copy of SFC.DLL called SFC1.DLL and open it in a hex editor. At offset 00006211 (6211h) you should find the values "8B" and "C6". Do not continue if you are unable to find these values. Change the values "8B C6" to read "90 90" and save the changes. Run these commands to update the system files: copy c:\winnt\system32\sfc1.dll c:\winnt\system32\sfc.dll /y copy c:\winnt\system32\sfc1.dll c:\winnt\system32\dllcache\sfc.dll /y If you are prompted to insert the Windows CD, click Cancel. Restart Windows for the change to take effect. Windows XP Make a backup the SFC_OS.DLL in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory. Make an additional copy of SFC_OS.DLL called SFC_OS1.DLL and open it in a hex editor. Windows XP (no Service Pack) At offset 0000E2B8 (0E2B8h) you should find the values "8B" and "C6". Windows XP (Service Pack 1) At offset 0000E3BB (0E3BBh) you should find the values "8B" and "C6". Do not continue if you are unable to find these values. Change the values "8B C6" to read "90 90" and save the changes. Run these commands to update the system files: copy c:\windows\system32\sfc_os1.dll c:\windows\system32\sfc_os.dll /y copy c:\windows\system32\sfc_os1.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache\sfc_os.dll /y If you are prompted to insert the Windows CD, click Cancel. Restart Windows for the change to take effect. Once these files have been updated apply the registry setting above. Note: You must manually modify the operating system files using a hex editor to allow this tweak to disable SFC on Windows 2000 (SP1+) or Windows XP.
  2. Do you actually have something like a Terminator font installed. I mean is it listed amongst the fonts in your control panel? Can you delete it. I also noticed from your first screenshot you have a modified theme. Can you change that back to the Windows XP default theme. If not, what happens if you select the Windows XP classic theme or any other theme. Does the terminator font dissappear? Kind regards, 'nuff
  3. In november last year a bug was discovered in Firefox where it would show passwords. Recently another bug has been discovered on how Firefox gives access to files on the local HDD. Firefox is a great browser, but has its flaws too.
  4. I'm sure Cheesy is aware of the implications of his actions... And "Snuff'nStuff's"?!?! Are you lowering yourself to calling me names now? Oh boy...
  5. If read somewhere that Vista does a great job at creating Bootable USB drives, but ONLY from within Vista. I'll see if I can find that article. 'nuff EDIT: Found the article. It describes how to create a bootable WinPE 2.0 USB stick. The stick must be formatted from within Vista. Is that of any use to you?
  6. If you double click Winword.exe in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 folder. Do you still get that error? As Jerry said, it could be that your Office installation is on a network drive. It could also be that your Office has been installed from a network location and when you run Office apps for the first time they need to complete the user part of the installation and need access to the original files. Can you update us a bit?
  7. Nothing to be ashamed of, Cheeze. If I were at school, I'd do the same. And at my job I'm a domain admin for all EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Afrika) so no point in me hacking stuff. Let me get back to you on this. I may have some nifty tools that will assist you in your quest for a right click. Cheers and have a good weekend. Oh by the way... almost forgot. There's computer policies and user policies. If it's a computer policy there's no point in hacking the NTUSER.DAT.
  8. The NTUSER.DAT contains the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive. By loading another one you're effectively throwing all your settings out the door and loading another one. This cannot be done with Windows Explorer. Just log on as a different user. But from your post I have the impression you're in a corporate environment and the IT dept. have enforced policies and you're not happy with them... Am I right?
  9. I thought he was talking about the MUI's, or better said.... the LIPs. Thanks for sorting that out.
  10. Funny how everybody seems to use the Corp. edition of WXPPRO.
  11. That's why I didn't post it in the news section. . But what strikes me most is in those four other topics you failed to respond once. In this topic your all over it. Still sure its nothing against me or are you just working on your post count?
  12. You might also want to check the HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Your best bet is to search for the game name or the name of the maker / distributor of the game in the registry.
  13. It's a direct copy from the author's website. He's a german. How's your german Jaclaz? Seems like a nice proggy. Just sharing the info.

  15. You can also choose to create 2 hardware profiles. You won't need to re-install Windows to a seperate partition and you'll still have the benefit of increased performance. HTH, 'nuff
  16. Well, perhaps I missed the point, but that's because I suck down 4 gigs in less than 2 hours. You might want to upgrade your internet connection. But perhaps you missed MY point. What I said is if you install the game to a different partition than your windows partition, you don't have to reinstall the game or update it if you do a new installation of Windows. I do that for the few games I play. All I need to do after a fresh windows install is place the shortcut on my desktop and I'm ready to go with my games. No need up re-install or update. Is that Final Fantasy 11 you're talking about (I deduct that from FFXI; not a real Final Fantasy player myself. Chill bro, just trying to help.
  17. I'd much rather re-install than replace my motherboard. Also, in a lot of cases, if you install your game to another drive, it should work right away after you've re-installed windows. Perhaps you should look into the unattended apps forum and see if you can script some of your applications / games along with your re-installation. And about that game that takes 12 hours to update?!?!? I'd get a refund, something is seriously wrong there. 'nuff
  18. Could be one of many things. Try (re-) installing the latest service pack. If you're still getting that error try replacing the RAM modules one at a time. If that doesn't help any you can try a new installation of Windows. And if that doesn't help it's most likely a hardware error. HTH, 'nuff
  19. The fact that you're asking is a hint towards you not using NTFS but most likely FAT32. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer, right click on the relevant Local Disk and select properties. It should display your File System somewhere towards the top. If you're on FAT 16 / 32 you can "convert" your File System to NTFS. Use CONVERT.EXE C: /FS:NTFS /V. Please keep in mind you cannot revert back to FAT from NTFS. How to use Convert.exe to convert a partition to the NTFS file system http://support.microsoft.com/kb/214579 HTH, 'nuff
  20. If your file system is NTFS you can set NTFS permissions for your games to allow only specific accounts to access the game.
  21. Not really sure I understand what you want or even why you want it. But.... In the registry editor you can load an unload hives. Run REGEDIT > click on HKLM > File > Load Hive > browse to the NTUSER.DAT you want to edit. When it asks for a "key name" you can type anything you like... for eg. TEMP or TEMPUSERHIVE. Just load any .dat file, edit it to your likings and save it again by File > UNLOAD HIVE. 'nuff
  22. A re-install does seem a bit drastic. Have you checked your Display Properties > Themes [Tab] & Appearance [Tab]. Under themes I have the Windows XP Theme Under Appearance I have: - Windows and buttons: Windows XP style - Color scheme: Defalut (blue) - Font size: Normal You might also want to check the Advanced tap under Appearance. Does everything look normal there? For Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet Options > General [tab] > Accesibility [botton] -> All choices should be UNCHECKED Also check the Fonts button -> - Language script: latis based - Web page font: Times New Roman - Plain text font: Courier New All settings above are from a newly installed Windows XP. Hopefully this will help a bit. 'nuff
  23. Have you tried turning off "Automatically search for network folders and printers"? Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View [Tab] > and uncheck "Automatically search for network folders and printers". It's the first one of the list. Just my 2 cents. HTH. 'nuff
  24. I guess that's why they say search before you ask. Anyway, glad you found it. I particularly like the Widescreen versions of some of those Vista Wallpapers.
