  1. im not sure if this is correct but it would be a command like rundll32.exe cabinet.dll or rundll32.exe cabinet.dll,"specific function in dll file with out the quotes"
  2. what you do is right click on the updates and there should be an option to not install them. i cant remember what that option was but just right click on the ones you dont one. if i remember right i think its hide update but dont quote me on that.
  3. for my desktop at home i use windows xp pro, server 2003, vista, ubuntu. i usually dualboot or will use vmware. at my school/work i manage a server with 2003 on it. the desktop i use there runs xp pro.
  4. i have been having problems when i try and install vista in vmware. i dont know if anyone else had the same problem that when you install vmware tools that the nic driver doesn't install. i finally found a solution my self because i couldn't find one anywhere else. the problem is that there not the AMD drivers. i actualy found out that in vista or at least everytime i try to install that there actually Intel 82545EM Based Gigabit Network Adapter drivers. i dont know if anyone has encounter that same problem but here is a soultion for anyone intrested. i rared the drivers and uploaded them to mediafire.com http://www.mediafire.com/?fztx2kmzoyy there the x86 and x64 drivers. hope this can help people like it did me.
  5. open winrar then go options>settings or ctrl+s then intergration and check that it is still intergrated into the shell. if it is try and uncheck restart the computer then recheck the boxes.
  6. i am having the same problem. im testing in vmware. i dont think drivers should be a problem as i removed them all i was going to integrated just the ones i needed for it to work. i would like to test it but are the drivers that are in vmware compatible with the x64 version. Edit: i made the same thing with all the drivers and it still didnt work. i will have to try and figure out when else i removed that could cause the problem. isnt going to be fun but something has to be at fault. here is my lastsession ; vLite preset file [Information] Version = 1.1 beta on 2.0.50727.832 Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Target = Windows Vista ULTIMATE 64-bit [Compatibility] Paint.NET Halo 2 Aero Glass Internet Explorer Internet Information Services Windows Performance Index [Components] ;# Accessories # Accessibility Mobility Center Snipping Tool Speech Support Welcome Center Windows Sidebar and Gadgets ;# Games # Inbox Games Premium Inbox Games ;# Hardware Support # Fax Support Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) Smartcards Windows Mobile Device Center ;# Languages # Japanese Korean Simplified Chinese Traditional Chinese ;# Multimedia # Media Center Movie and DVD Maker Sample Pictures Screensavers SideShow Sound Recorder ;# Network # Connect to a Network Projector MSN Installer Remote Desktop and Assistance Remote Desktop Client Windows Collaboration ;# Services # Error Reporting Offline Files Remote Registry Volume Shadow Copy Windows Remote Management Windows Search ;# System # BitLocker Drive Encryption Help Malicious Software Removal Tool Microsoft Agent Natural Language Parental Controls Security Center Sync Center System Restore Tablet PC Windows Backup Zip Folder [Options] DEP (Data Execution Prevention) = Enabled only for OS components (Optin) Power scheme = High performance Hibernation = Off Show hidden files and folders = Yes Show extensions for known file types = Yes
  7. gmail works fine with windows mail. as with yahoo you need premium account if they offer pop3 on it. the free mail accounts from yahoo dont have pop3 so they cant be set up with any mail client.
  8. well i ended up going with a opty 170. i bought it from ripken204.
  9. i dont have much experience with esata drives but can you use a file archiver and split it to smaller pieces then copy it over and extract on the esata. also do u have the newest esata drivers installed as they might fix any previous conflicts
  10. what im saying is on your cd is there any other files/folders that are on the cd that you dont have in the same directoy with i386. also i rembered that the svcpack is in the i386 folder. but do you have anyother folders like an oem or $oem$ that might contain files that would be copyed to the hard drive.
  11. im not sure how to delete the user pictures from a working copy of xp. they can be removed from cd with nlite. but all u have to do to use your own is browse for pictures and use one of your own.
  12. dont know how to overclock. and if i did couldnt i get about the same preformance overclocking the 3800+.
  13. is there a svcpack folder or anyother files/folders that the setup could be refering to that are not in the i386 folder.
  14. do what i do. go into the options then in high performance check custom then select files and select your game directory's. that way all you game files get put to the outer area of the disk giving them better access times. also select a lot of the files that rarely get accessed to the archive that way there is more room near the outer areas of your drive for files that get accessed more.
  15. well i have one more question. what do you guys think will be the best bang for my buck. there is the 3800+ for $57.99 and its 2.0 GHz then there is the 4200+ which is $72.50 for 2.2 GHz. right now i have the 3500+ single core 2.2 GHz. i know that amd usual have a higher rating then there actual speed. according to system requirements lab my 2.2 is rated at 3.5 GHz. i know any dual core will be much better then my single core. im just wondering if its worth the extra 15 bucks to go with the 2.2 GHz. from what most of the charts i looked at on toms hardware there pretty close. so i just want an opinion before i order it on thursday. right now the most system intense game i play is bioshock. even with my processor now i think it is my vid card that is the bottle neck considering that it dont like games at higher resolutions. and any of the video encoding i do is never high def. about the highest resolution i encode in is 704x384 when the video is widescreen. i just want to weight my options since i dont get much from my new job. i get 7 bucks an hour and i work 3 hours a day 5 days a week and only get payed every other week. i only get about 200 a check. also there still other stuff i do so i still need money. i dont plan on upgrading anything else except maybe my hard drive for a while. and ill probley upgrade my gfx card when gforce 9 cards come out making the 8 cheaper. from everything that ive seen the 7600gt beats the 8600gt's (not gts) in everything but newer games. so ill stick with that.
  16. check you bios. idk i never used a sata drive but maybe it shows up differently in the bios so it might be set to boot after the hard drive. just make sure all the dvd drives are above the hard drive and it should boot the dvd. hope you figure it out.
  17. also you can grab the mass storage driver pack from driverpacks.net and use driver pack base to intergrate it. also if you can grab other driverpacks and intergrate them into your cd.
  18. i use to use either jkdefrag or perfectdisk. but i fell in love with UltimateDefrag. i don't see why it shouldn't work on x64 vista as with most defragers they are just manipulating the windows defrag api. best bet is see if it works. i dont see how it could cause a problem just trying it out and seeing how it works out. but you could also email them and see get the work from the horses mouth. @nycste id advise that the first time using ultimatedefrag you first use the Consolidate Method then set auto to optimum and run the auto and from there you can just run fragmented files only or auto. if you dont make any major hard drive changes like install/uninstall software to add/delete a lot of files then fragmented files only should suffice.
  19. that is weird that there is an rror trying to start it. did u set it to auto and try restarting the computer.
  20. in xp that is the case. but i thought the vista had a separate service for the firewall and internet connect sharing. did you check to make sure the firewall service was running.
  21. i didnt have to do anything to the silent install of winavi video converter. it took the silent switches with out me having to rebuild the setup.
  22. use this it can tell you the switches for most programs. USSF
  23. i was able to keep it in the inno setup i also deleted the run command. it installed fine i just need to fix the start menu folder as it gets named (default) but thanks for the help. for a temp fix can remain permanent i added this to the bat file. rename "%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\(Default)" "WinAVI MP4 Converter" Here is my entire bat file start /wait setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /SP- REGEDIT /s winavi.reg rename "%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\(Default)" "WinAVI MP4 Converter" EXIT the only problem with this is the startmenu group has to be deleted manually after uninstall if anyone knows how to keep the startmenu group from getting named (default) plz let me know. here is the script [Setup] AppName=WinAVI iPod\PSP\3GP\MP4 Video Converter AppVerName=WinAVI MP4 Converter DefaultDirName={pf}\WinAVI MP4 Converter OutputBaseFilename=setup Compression=zip LicenseFile=embedded\License.txt WizardImageFile=embedded\WizardImage.bmp WizardSmallImageFile=embedded\WizardSmallImage.bmp [Files] Source: "{app}\Language\English.ini"; 24. sygate would be better then the built in firewall and you do not want to run them at the same time.
