  1. No one has been able to pick up where this genius has left off???
  2. Ok, I tried it again with SFC off and it completed the install. I went to load a nForce2 UDP and the install hung for 45 seconds at the opening dialog box (whatever it said). I don't know what that was about, but it finally did install. So you are saying once it is turned off, it's off and you can't easily restore it? Sounds as that isn't/shouldn't be a option.Questions; 1. Is this AMD specific or is it with both AMD and Wintel based MBs'?? 2. Has it been narrowed down any? 3. If I do a straight nLite procedure, NOT using ANY customizing option, other than slipstreaming a SP and burning the CD, does it still do it with a problem system?? Huh??? I have no idea what any of that is suppose to mean. Sorry, I never saw that. Might as well merge these two threads together.
  3. It wasn't on a older version, at least my XP version worked. I think I was 1.2. Anyway. SFC has to be off? Can it be turned back on after the install?
  4. Is this a 2k issue or all O/Ss' issue??
  5. Ok, how do you do that??
  6. I'm confused about your response regarding SFC. This never happened durning XP, or is it this beta version I have??
  7. I tried another session and the same thing. This time I didn't do as many custom settings as before and less drivers. Here are the 'presets' from both sessions: While we are at it, I looked over the text and saw all the references to foreign languages and keyboards that I wanted removed. Did I do it wrong or should they be listed?
  8. I must of done a couple of dozen 2k installs, but this is the first time I had one hang on "Saving settings" I rebooted once, it picked up before that portion of the install process, but it again hung at the same spot. I'm using a nLite edited 2k install w/ sp4 slipstreamed. I have used nLite with XP with no issue, but this was the first time I used it with 2k. This is on a systen that has a different HDD and video card, but the same PS, MB, processor & memory. I haven't tested the HDD with the utility from the manufacture for any errors yet, but I formatted ok through the Windows install. As far as stopping services from running, would any of that have anything to do with the install, namely stopping at 'Saving settings'?? Any ideas??
  9. Are you actually "removing" these services or just disabling them as you can do in 'Services'??
  10. Hummmmm. I have always done the 'Barts' method by slipstreaming the SP and replaceing that 386 folder. Then adding those needed 'boot' files. You wound up with a directory that looked like the Windows CD directory. Nero has a 'ISO' & a 'UDF/ISO'. I tried both and with the 'ISO' choice I receive a error message that it is a single iso file to a empty disc and with the 'UDF/ISO' choice, it burns, but the CD doesn't boot. Under 'Recorder' in the main top menu bar there is a 'Burn Image' selection. I tried that and it finally worked. What's the difference between these three choices? Why doesn't the other two work? Burning is burning isn't it?
  11. 2k was M$'s best O/S. Why ruin it tring to use id*** Exploiter. Try Opera instead!
  12. I'm really confused about a ISO file being bootable using nLite. In the past doingb a slopstramed O/S using Nero, you do a bootable CD, point the program to a .img file with whatever files it needs to make the CD bootable, then add the O/S files from the CD that were modified (SP slipstreamed etc.). When I tried to use this 'iso' file in Nero it gives me a error that is the wrong type of file. Someoen explain this 'bootable CD' concept to me. It was easier to use a bootable floppy in 88ES.
  13. Must be using 98SE...................
  14. I didn't mean literally. All through the school of hard knocks...............No pain, no gain.
  15. Ok, you got me on a technicality.
  16. Ok, not the same article number, but it's the same heading! The difference is the circustances. One is "XP based" and the other is "XP home" One uses gpedit and the other doesn't. It's my understanding that the 'home' version doesn't have gpedit. I'll trade you my time for yours that I have spent..............Next time I'm there I'll see if I can try safe mode and create a new account since that seems to be the problem. Another in the list of why I hate FP.
  17. That was the same link I had in my post. Haven't tried safemode yet since I haven't had access top the box. Believe me, this isn't easy for me since I'm getting very little cooperation from the owner.
  18. Almost 40% do this once a month??
  19. The exact message (as I was told) is: I questioned the wording and he said that was it. Someone else suggested this is the message;http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303846/en-us I tried on my 2nd bootable HDD that I have XP Pro w/sp2 installed and I couldn't get it to fail no matter what I did, renaming and/or deleting accounts.
  20. It's still there. It's just I dont have access (again, I forgot the exact error message). Again, it,s not a password problem!
  21. Yes to both. Yes, already set that way by default. Yes I know. Already understood. Pretty much understood.Unfortunately I don't have the router here or have screen shots of some of the interface pages, or it would be easier. I have looked over the manual and think I know what/where the pronlem is, but untill I actually go back, this is kinda in limbo. I'm just more use to DSL I guess.
  22. It seems as the term "Gateway" is very broad and this is where the confusion is coming from. It can be used in various ways. (Almost 60 views and no one else has anything to add??)
  23. That is if I can. "the SAM"??
  24. Paranoia? More security for the CC? So one couldn't take their modem over somewhere else and use it there? Not much of a reason if you ask me if that's it. I read that, now I'm more confused. Then why isn't the ISPs' router still the "gateway" if you have a router??
  25. I would stay away from Vonage. AFAIK, they have too many customers and too little support. All they want is a quick return on their investment.
