  1. Why on earth has M$ prevented the ability to remember window resizing?? This is ridiculous. Without using a 3rd party program (which seems to be the norm for anything past XP to fix all the shortcomings), is there any way for Win7 to remember anything other than the last window resizing??
  2. I have looked high and low to fix the problem of remembering changes to the Services console that I use all the time with no avail. I go through the process (as hidden Admin) by using the 'Author' right click option, uncheck the 'do not save changes' option, but it won't allow overwriting the existing Services console file. I then tried renaming the file with a "1" after the name, it saved it, but only limited changes where saved. What happened to the change attribute fix in XP that worked fine? I can't beleive M$ has done this. For what purpose?????
  3. Gee, that looks familiar. There is a option in the BIOS do switch from the AHCI mode to IDE which I had to do to install my XP Pro w/sp3 disc that I have made from nLite. The orginal Laptop came with XP Pro w/sp3 that I had to complete the O/S loading process (which I never had to do with a older HP custom built Laptop with the optional XP Pro, not Win7). The Laptop was set for AHCI. I never used that 'Hotfixes' page before.
  4. Don't you just love fixing these Chinese manufactures stupidity? Almost as bad as trying to install that UAA pre-driver (as I call it) on a system with XP w/sp3 and get a message that the package is older that the SP even though sp3 doesn't have the UAA pre driver installed.
  5. The next question; If I manage to do this, can that disc be used on other MB's that don't have that specif chipset? Will the O/S just ignore those files??
  6. I read over some of the FAQ's regarding slipstreaming drivers, but most was over my head. My situation is this: HP Laptop 6545b that requires SATA drivers so I can set a BIOS option to AHCI instead of IDE before I load the O/S. The driver package from HP is a single .exe that I extracted to another .exe which I extracted to a folder with 13 files and a sub folder. There are three .cab files, only one that I can extract further. The simple question is, what do/can I place in the nLite window to make this work without all of the complicated scripts etc. that I see posted??
  7. Questions; 1. DISM; I found out what it stand stands for, but exactly what is it used for?? 2. Why is WAIK 7 needed? 3. Why can't this program be run in XP? If it is the above issue, can't this WAIK be installed in XP? Would someone translate this?
  8. The OP needs to be updated. It's almost a year old!
  9. I use to use that program to change the splash screen within the ntoskrnl.exe file when I ran 2k. Now I use TuneUp Utilities ability to just add different splash screens to that file (or how ever it is done).
  10. Golly! Someone other than muself finally asked this question. I wish I had a dollar for everytime I deleted something when I just wanted to rename it. But, there is still no solution to the OP?
  11. I understand there is alot to it, foor something as that to work. It would make more sense since it doesn't stick, just to remove the choice from the setup. Yes. I have always used the default 'DefaultHide" mode and never had this issue. I assume it was one of the services I disabled since that was the only real change.I wonder if sp3 might have someting to do with this since I only started using sp3?
  12. Never saw that 'catch'. It shouldn't really matter since the default driver will allow resolutions over 1600x1200. You shouldn't need a specific driver (which I don't want to add since I wanted this to be a universal install CD). No, never done this. I vagely remember reading about this, but never looked into it.There is still the issue about the network name not sticking when it did before. Anyone else?
  13. This was with a fresh install.
  14. Under: Unattended/Owner and Network ID/Workgroup I added a name, but it didn't stick. I have to go and re-add that ID for the Workgroup. In the past it has. I'm suspecting by disabling some services might of caused the problem. Under; Unattended/Display/Screen Resolution, I have never been able to get this to stick. I have tried 1024x768 and 1280x1024 and all I get is the anchient 640x480 after the install. I always use the 'Classic' Default theme, Color scheme and Start Menu under Desktop themes if that matters. Attached are the .ini files. What is the difference between the ini file with the date and the one without?? Also, of the two ' u.ini' files, one has "JoinWorkgroup" with the name I entered, the other is without.
  15. I didn't connect your message with that one 'wish'. The colors change was done after the install.
  16. Can't registry entries (files with a .reg extension) be added somewhere in the nLite process?
  17. There are over 800 entries in no order. For what purpose??I have changed the boot background level to between 30 30 30 and 100 100 100 (depending on what monitor is used) under Users\Default\Control Panel\Colors. That is the only place I had to go to change it and it's worked every time. Can that 'key' be added somewhere within the nLite program? I don't see why there would be three places to change this setting. The 30 level is very dark, but it is well above the black level of the LCD panel and enough that I know I have active video present. This resolves the problem of not seeing anything untill the cursor shows. Perhaps for CRT monitors, a higher level might be needed.
  18. if he would of said go to CM and then DM. I would of known exactly what and where that was.
  19. Anyway, I deleted the shares that were orginally created, I removed the names for the four partitions under 'My Computer' that changed them back to the default 'Local Disk' (useless name). I then recreated a new share for each aprtition, but I didn't rename the drive. I see the renamed partitions by typing in the computer name in the address bar, but no drive letters as before. I went back and renamed the partitions in 'My Computer', but when I went back to typing in the computer name, the O/S hangs and nothing is found. Ok, what happened?
  20. "compmgmt.msc" is Computer Management. You used the terms "manage" and "disk management". Neither is the same as the phase "Computer Management". Using terms as "manage" & "disk management", tells me you are talking about something else. CM was probably excluded from the options since I didn't see the need to have it there when the install disk was created. There is enough crap scattered all over the place as it is, I don't need three or four places to access the same feature as M$ seems to insist on having. I appreceate your help, but using other terms only confuses things more than they already are.
  21. I have never and would never consider doing so. I have no "Manage" when I right click on 'My Computer'. I do have 'Map network drive' and 'Device Manager' (which was custom added through nLite), but no manage or disk management.
  22. "sharing/security" extactly where? By right clicking on the drive letter in 'My Computer'?I want to keep the drive letters associated with the partitions (other than the two bootable) and would like to do so with the optical drives and media card slots, but that isn't as important.
  23. I want to be able to access every partition from every PC. I do understand that opening a whole HDD has security issues, but I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is the changes M$ made from 2k to XP preventing me to do so easily without reinventing the wheel (so to speak). When I set up a PC, I disconnect the other drive (if it has one) and I plan on having two bootable drives, one on the 1st partition of each drive to eliminate the possibility of corrupting the other drive (which has happened before). I go to 'My Computer' and right click on each of the HDD partitions and choose 'Rename' as I did when I was running 2k (which didn't seen to cause a problem). I never have used 'Map network drive' since I never looked into it and didn't think it applied in my case. I then seup up sharing, again by right clicking on each partition and created a new share and named it the same as I did by choosing 'Rename'. I was using 'Simple File Sharing' which I could never remember if it should or should not be used since 2k didn't have this. When I change the boot order in the bios, booting to the other drive, I noticed the problem of the drive letters changing (other than the two bootable partitions). I realize that Simple File Sharing should be turned off, and I assume that I shouldn't use the 'Rename' right click option to rename the partitions. But, I'm not clear just what/where is the proper way to rename these drive letters so not to cause this apparent conflict between the two active partitions O/S's when I boot into one or the other.
  24. You mean going to Sharing & Security after I right click on the drive letter and go to Properties?Under Properties/General, it shows what it does in My Computer, under Properties/Sharing it shows what it does using a network address name. Different names, different drive letters.
