  1. Under: Unattended/Owner and Network ID/Workgroup I added a name, but it didn't stick. I have to go and re-add that ID for the Workgroup. In the past it has. I'm suspecting by disabling some services might of caused the problem. Under; Unattended/Display/Screen Resolution, I have never been able to get this to stick. I have tried 1024x768 and 1280x1024 and all I get is the anchient 640x480 after the install. I always use the 'Classic' Default theme, Color scheme and Start Menu under Desktop themes if that matters. Attached are the .ini files. What is the difference between the ini file with the date and the one without?? Also, of the two ' u.ini' files, one has "JoinWorkgroup" with the name I entered, the other is without.
  2. I didn't connect your message with that one 'wish'. The colors change was done after the install.
  3. Can't registry entries (files with a .reg extension) be added somewhere in the nLite process?
  4. There are over 800 entries in no order. For what purpose??I have changed the boot background level to between 30 30 30 and 100 100 100 (depending on what monitor is used) under Users\Default\Control Panel\Colors. That is the only place I had to go to change it and it's worked every time. Can that 'key' be added somewhere within the nLite program? I don't see why there would be three places to change this setting. The 30 level is very dark, but it is well above the black level of the LCD panel and enough that I know I have active video present. This resolves the problem of not seeing anything untill the cursor shows. Perhaps for CRT monitors, a higher level might be needed.
  5. if he would of said go to CM and then DM. I would of known exactly what and where that was.
  6. Anyway, I deleted the shares that were orginally created, I removed the names for the four partitions under 'My Computer' that changed them back to the default 'Local Disk' (useless name). I then recreated a new share for each aprtition, but I didn't rename the drive. I see the renamed partitions by typing in the computer name in the address bar, but no drive letters as before. I went back and renamed the partitions in 'My Computer', but when I went back to typing in the computer name, the O/S hangs and nothing is found. Ok, what happened?
  7. "compmgmt.msc" is Computer Management. You used the terms "manage" and "disk management". Neither is the same as the phase "Computer Management". Using terms as "manage" & "disk management", tells me you are talking about something else. CM was probably excluded from the options since I didn't see the need to have it there when the install disk was created. There is enough crap scattered all over the place as it is, I don't need three or four places to access the same feature as M$ seems to insist on having. I appreceate your help, but using other terms only confuses things more than they already are.
  8. I have never and would never consider doing so. I have no "Manage" when I right click on 'My Computer'. I do have 'Map network drive' and 'Device Manager' (which was custom added through nLite), but no manage or disk management.
  9. "sharing/security" extactly where? By right clicking on the drive letter in 'My Computer'?I want to keep the drive letters associated with the partitions (other than the two bootable) and would like to do so with the optical drives and media card slots, but that isn't as important.
  10. I want to be able to access every partition from every PC. I do understand that opening a whole HDD has security issues, but I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is the changes M$ made from 2k to XP preventing me to do so easily without reinventing the wheel (so to speak). When I set up a PC, I disconnect the other drive (if it has one) and I plan on having two bootable drives, one on the 1st partition of each drive to eliminate the possibility of corrupting the other drive (which has happened before). I go to 'My Computer' and right click on each of the HDD partitions and choose 'Rename' as I did when I was running 2k (which didn't seen to cause a problem). I never have used 'Map network drive' since I never looked into it and didn't think it applied in my case. I then seup up sharing, again by right clicking on each partition and created a new share and named it the same as I did by choosing 'Rename'. I was using 'Simple File Sharing' which I could never remember if it should or should not be used since 2k didn't have this. When I change the boot order in the bios, booting to the other drive, I noticed the problem of the drive letters changing (other than the two bootable partitions). I realize that Simple File Sharing should be turned off, and I assume that I shouldn't use the 'Rename' right click option to rename the partitions. But, I'm not clear just what/where is the proper way to rename these drive letters so not to cause this apparent conflict between the two active partitions O/S's when I boot into one or the other.
  11. You mean going to Sharing & Security after I right click on the drive letter and go to Properties?Under Properties/General, it shows what it does in My Computer, under Properties/Sharing it shows what it does using a network address name. Different names, different drive letters.
  12. I took a closer look at the network view. I can't make out exactly what that icon is suppose to be, except it isn't the folder icon, at least it isn't what I see when I open up a drive letter. I took a look using Properties and customize and see it is a open folder connected to what appears to be a pipeline with a document above the folder. I take it that is suppose to represent a network share?
  13. I never used "Map network drives" before. I have always just renamed the drives by right clicking in 'My Computer'. Ok, then what is the proper procedure to rename drive letters? In my example, 12 drive letters altogether (not counting the floppy); two HDD's, two partitions each two optical drives four media card slots (a drive letter for each) one external HDD, two partitions Also, how about the two bootable drive letters?
  14. Yes. The names don't match the drive letters (except 'C') when I access them by typing in a computer name instead of a actual IP address. Using 'My Computer' all is well. Are you saying the 'Network' share letter can be different than the 'My Computer' drive letter?
  15. Details: Two SATA HDD's, each with two partitions. No Raid. First partition on each is bootable and has XP loaded. I boot to one or the other by changeing the order in the Bios. If I open 'My Computer' the list is; C: Backup1, D: Main1, E: Storage1 & F: Archive1 If I type "\\Videobruce1" in the address bar of a Explorer window I get; C: Backup1, D: Archive1, E: Main1 & F: Storage Why is this, how can I correct this and prevent it from happening again?
  16. Will do. Between the "Home" drive and "System" drive commands, what does the addition or absence of the backslash represent? IOW's, what is the difference between "C:\" and "C:"?
  17. Thats in VMware only it will work fine on a live install. ???
  18. Under 'Tweaks/General/Desktop/Start Menu' (I didn't see the 'Desktop' layer in the OP), the first entry and the 23rd entry in the list.Under 'Unattended/Desktop themes/Options/Default theme &Color scheme, I use the Classic setup and check Classic Start Menu (if that matters).
  19. What exactly do the "%" signs mean? I can't just type "Temp" like the "Windows" folder is?
  20. This happens from a fresh start. Running Opera V9.63 It doesn't do this using 'Quick edit' as with this edited post as I discovered.
  21. Every line appears to be doubled spaced. Hitting 'Enter' twice seems to give you 3 blank lines between lines with text on. This really seems to spread out the post unecessarly. Text under user name is single spaced. Browser is Opera.
  22. It isn't shown either way. The issue is it can't be enabled!
  23. Under the 'Options/General/Folders' entry for the 'Temporary folder', I want to change that buried location to the root of 'C'. Do I just change it to "Temp" removing everything before that line, or should it be "C:/Temp"? Reason being, I access that folder all the time since that is usually where unpacked '.exe' programs and drivers wind up durning an install process. I will save those files in the orginal uninstalled folder for that program or driver so as to save time when I use that program or driver next time. IOW's, I don't have to go through the unpacking process every time.
  24. These 'tweaks' don't appear to 'stick'. Unattended/Display/Screen Resolution. I have tried 1024x768 and 1280x1024, but the O/S still installs at 640x480. This is not choosing 'Yes' in the 'Setup look' under the 'Options/General' page. I believe if I choose 'Yes' it will stick to 1024x768. Tweaks/General/Desktop/Start Menu. Checking 'Add Admin Tools menu' won't stick. As soon as you go into 'Customize Start Menu' it is unchecked. Same goes for 'Use small icons in Start Panel'. Wish list; For the Recycle Bin; the ability to remove 'Delete confirmation dialog'. Under Options/General/Setup look; another choice instead of 'black'. '0' black is a bad choice since one can't tell if the video card has been enabled when the screen is normally blank. A very low level grey (30 30 30) just enough to tell you have good video untill a active screen appears.
  25. Langage Bar; If you check to remove, apparently it disables the Quick Lanch. Anyone confirm this?
