  1. I went to MS Update Catalog and d/l'ed the x64 & the x86 versions, but both get rejected.
  2. I finally managed to d/l the x64 driver for this printer directly from MS's update site as opposed to doing it through update driver since I want a copy of the driver so I can load off line like I do with all other drivers for the past 13 years. I finally managed to figure out how to get the driver without using the "update driver" through Device Manager that automatically d/l's the driver, installs it but with no copy saved for backup. You have to repeat the process if you re-install the O/S which is stupid and unnecessary. That is after you change the setting under "Device Installation Settings" to "Yes do this automatically" since it won't work if you leave it at the default setting. The two packages I have are x86 & x64 for this i560. Using the .inf file, both return the same message that is isn't the correct driver. There is no .exe so I can run it by itself. Canon has some file that is suppose to work, but with no details just how to use it. A fix for the problem. I tried that, but that has absolutely no effect. Any ideas here, I have never needed to do all of this for any device .
  3. I managed to get a d/l of the x86 & x64 drivers for Win7 for a Canon i560 printer, but it gives a error that it isn't compatible. I tried but versions . The device shows in Device manager, but it won't allow loading either driver through update driver. BUT, I can use the auto update feature as long as I changes the setting for auto update to auto from nanual and it will install the driver from their website. The problem is I would prefer to have a driver that I can load offline as I do with just about everything else. Ideas?
  4. Running XP pro w/sp3, after a changed my router one of my three active partitions (3 HDD's) the one I use all the time is slow to shutdown. I changed out a old Verizon DSL route for a Linksys wireless router (using the wired connection) and by doing so the system is slow to shutdown. I remember reading something about network conflicts connected to the O/S, but don't remember the terms which makes searching impossible. I use static IP addresses for my three PC's and two TiVo DVR's which are on the network. No firewalls. This happened right after I swapped routers.
  5. No glitch. All three columns are sorted, Status was sorted last. The reason a few of the 'Automatic' services are separated in the last column is those have not not started. This seems to be the logical way to show the list. Alphabetically, status then startup type, I can instantly see what is running, the type it is set for and it is listed in alphabetically order. One of a few M$ programs that is user friendly (after you set it up correctly). From elsewhere I discovered that with this newly created duplicate 'Service's' file, If I open the file in Notepad and edit the top and bottom figures at the top of the overly long page that opens to "2" and "870" which is the top and bottom of a 1600x900 Laptop screen that I am using, then save it, the newly created Services console will open full height. I don't need a wider console window, just higher. For a 1920x1200 window it would be 2 & 1170:
  6. Yes, I renamed the file and made a shortcut to that file.
  7. I'm sure I have done so, but it never remembered.
  8. I have been to that site and didn't see that. Thanks, I will try this.
  9. Not here. Can anyone else confirm or deny that resizing the newly created duplicate .msc file allows resizing (stretched to screen height for example) to get saved?
  10. After doing additional research it appears the blame is on this new so called 'feature' called Libraries. So, the next question is, can this questionably, so called feature be removed, turned off, or better yet not installed in the first place using RT Lite (or similar)?
  11. I did find that you can rename that file and save it, but you still have the problem of window size and a new problem of sorting columns. You use to be able to sort each column and it would remember that sort even after you sort another. Keeping the list in alphabetical under 'Name', active under 'Status' and Automatic under 'Startup. Now, there seems to be a glitch when trying to do the same where the Startup doesn't completely remember the order by placing all services that are in 'Auto' at the top when all three columns are sorted. This makes it real easy to see whats' what. See the attachment for my example with XP. All three columns are in decending order showing names alphabetically, then the running services and lastly, services set for 'Auto' at the top.
  12. Funny, it worked fine in XP. I disable UAC among many other so called improvements since they weren't needed with XP.
  13. Hugh help.
  14. And I'm suppose to know this. I have posted thousands of posts in dozens of forums and never saw anything even close to that before.
  15. PEBCAK????
  16. XP with all the driver & compatibility updates for media of Win7! Since Win7 doesn't let you do everything even with the hidden Admin account.
  17. Why on earth has M$ prevented the ability to remember window resizing?? This is ridiculous. Without using a 3rd party program (which seems to be the norm for anything past XP to fix all the shortcomings), is there any way for Win7 to remember anything other than the last window resizing??
  18. I have looked high and low to fix the problem of remembering changes to the Services console that I use all the time with no avail. I go through the process (as hidden Admin) by using the 'Author' right click option, uncheck the 'do not save changes' option, but it won't allow overwriting the existing Services console file. I then tried renaming the file with a "1" after the name, it saved it, but only limited changes where saved. What happened to the change attribute fix in XP that worked fine? I can't beleive M$ has done this. For what purpose?????
  19. Gee, that looks familiar. There is a option in the BIOS do switch from the AHCI mode to IDE which I had to do to install my XP Pro w/sp3 disc that I have made from nLite. The orginal Laptop came with XP Pro w/sp3 that I had to complete the O/S loading process (which I never had to do with a older HP custom built Laptop with the optional XP Pro, not Win7). The Laptop was set for AHCI. I never used that 'Hotfixes' page before.
  20. Don't you just love fixing these Chinese manufactures stupidity? Almost as bad as trying to install that UAA pre-driver (as I call it) on a system with XP w/sp3 and get a message that the package is older that the SP even though sp3 doesn't have the UAA pre driver installed.
  21. The next question; If I manage to do this, can that disc be used on other MB's that don't have that specif chipset? Will the O/S just ignore those files??
  22. I read over some of the FAQ's regarding slipstreaming drivers, but most was over my head. My situation is this: HP Laptop 6545b that requires SATA drivers so I can set a BIOS option to AHCI instead of IDE before I load the O/S. The driver package from HP is a single .exe that I extracted to another .exe which I extracted to a folder with 13 files and a sub folder. There are three .cab files, only one that I can extract further. The simple question is, what do/can I place in the nLite window to make this work without all of the complicated scripts etc. that I see posted??
  23. Questions; 1. DISM; I found out what it stand stands for, but exactly what is it used for?? 2. Why is WAIK 7 needed? 3. Why can't this program be run in XP? If it is the above issue, can't this WAIK be installed in XP? Would someone translate this?
  24. The OP needs to be updated. It's almost a year old!
