  1. Thanks for the input. This isn't my system or I wouldn't have a USB keyboard in the first place............
  2. It reconizes the USB mouse (with a adapter) in the PS2 port ok.
  3. I might of been wrong about the "cable unplugged" part. The computer is 8 miles away. It will be a few days before I can't troubleshoot it again.
  4. Because it is a USB keyboard or because it is a Comtrash USB keybord? Or could it be a bios issue on the MB?
  5. Thanks for the welcome. If I remember it correctly, I believe I get a 'network cable unplugged' error. The modem 'sees' the computer though. Anyway, there is no internet access.
  6. I am trying to troubleshoot a very slow cable internet connection by bypassing the router. When I connect the NIC directly into the cable modem (Motorola) the computer doesn't see the modem, when it sees the router and the internet ok (but very slow). It is connected with a 25' patch cable (I will try another cable later). I have power cycled the modem and re-boot the puter and set obtaining a IP address automatically, but still nothing. All the lites on the modem are lit. Any ideas? Running 2k w/sp4
  7. Using a USB leyboard with a PS2 adapter (not to tie up a USB port), the system doesn't reconize the keyboard. It does with a USB mouse using a PS2 adapter. It is a Compaq keyboard if that matters. I will try the keyboard on another box when I can and try the other adapter also. In the mean time any ideas?
  8. I can't find for the life of me any way to bypass entering your password everytime the computer boots using XP Home (sp2). I'm not familar with the 'home' version as I have only used the 'Pro' version a few times. 2k (which I perfer) and XP Pro allow a password and a provision to "remember password" at login time. Doesn't the 'Home' version have the same??
  9. I haven't read through all of the 'Beginners Guide' yet, but I didn't see anything on this which I am a little surprised. It only showed once, when the destop appeared for the first time (I believe after all the data entry was completed).
  10. I got a message about old or unreconized files and needing the Windows install CD to replace these files when I ran the installed O/S for the first time. I click canel and the system seems to be ok for now, but I don't know if there are any surprises down the road. I only got the error box once when the desktop showed for the first time after the instalation. Any ideas? Hope that made sense. This is XP Pro w/sp2 using most of the options in nLite (tweaks/services etc.)
