In this topic, we study Supermium, it's a Chromium based browser, and it is an elementary thing to understand.3 points

The scan engine of my ancient version of Kaspersky, running under WinXP, canNOT look into all .exe files. In my experience this occurs with about 2-5% of .exe files checked. When Kaspersky cannot look into [=open, extract] a .exe, the "scanned" column of the "Statistics" tab indicates "1", as with the file hmpalert.exe in the screenshot below. So the Kaspersky msg "No threats detected" has to be treated with caution if "1" is displayed in the "Scanned" column, which indicates that the file should be examined further. In contrast, the file 'torbrowser-install-7.5.6_en-US.exe', shown in the screenshot below, could be checked OK by Kaspersky, with 7053 files in it checked by Kaspersky. BTW, 'torbrowser-install-7.5.6_en-US.exe' is the last version which runs OK under WinXP (also under SSE-only = Pentium 3), and is VERY useful for accessing sites blocked by ISPs etc. hmpalert.exe is a modified HitmanPro.Alert 3.8.25 Build 965, from a dubious source. Neither Universal Extractor v1.6.1.2035 (koros mod, 13Dec2018) nor 7-Zip v21.06 (24Nov2021) could extract hmpalert.exe properly, extracting only \.rsrc\ etc. When hmpalert.exe was installed under WinXP in a sandbox of Sandboxie v5.40, the installation completed OK, extracting 25 files and folders. but did not run in a sandbox because a service was not loaded. A 2nd scan with my ancient version of Kaspersky checked OK the 25 files, installed/extracted into the sandbox (see screenshot). hmpalert.exe was used here just as an example for showing how to virus-check a file which cannot be opened by the virus-checker. This sandbox trick probably also works with other virus-checkers, provided that the virus-checker indicates whether or not it can look into a file. BTW, hmpalert.exe seems to install OK under WinXP SP3, but no idea whether it runs OK under WinXP or whether it is of any use.2 points

Tampermonkey once used to be open-source, but at one point (summer of 2018) it turned into closed source ; if you'd care to read the fine prints, under https://www.tampermonkey.net/privacy.php , you'd find: Nothing to be overwhelmed about (they note it can be "user-disabled"), but "home-phoning" it is (the default setting for "Average Joe") ... Besides, TM were very eager to quickly drop support for FxESR-52.9.0 (XP+Vista EoS) and early versions of Google Chrome, so I couldn't even use it on roytam1's Serpent (52|55) forks ; likewise, on early versions of the 360EE Chinese forks... As of now, my default choice for a (WebExtension) userscript manager is the open-source Violentmonkey extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/violentmonkey/jinjaccalgkegednnccohejagnlnfdag They're no longer supporting Fx52esr, but they're still supporting Chromium down to v61 (extension still being at MV2 ); latest stable (2.29.0) and even BETA (2.29.1) versions work fine in my Supermium profiles ; I feel most don't give it a chance because TM was/is more "hyped" ...1 point

If I assume you want to try Vista, the possibility to get it fully working with nVidia is zero, since it's an "optimus" notebook.1 point

"A" guy, as in there are many of you? Or you meant the guy, as in the only one. Thanks.1 point

Not long it lasted, the site's starting to be emptied out. Only a couple of nVidia drivers left. Probably the same case here, too. The devs get more and more talented, Try to fetch their old search string from archived pages, then apply the same as I wrote above, should also work, in theory.1 point

I toyed with the manual editing of the search string, and it worked! To me, it looks they simply hired someone very retarded to manage to website, As an example, the very old, but common notebook card 840M, you can manually replace it with, say 920M (also common), or any of those you want to find. https://driverscollection.com/?H=GeForce 840M&By=NVidia&dpage=2 Look here, after my edits, it unlocks twenty pages with nVidia 920M! https://driverscollection.com/?H=GeForce 920M&By=NVidia&dpage=11 point

Yes, I was sad when Malwarebytes finally dropped pattern updates for 3.5.1, although to be fair they did keep them going for a number of years longer than I thought they would. I was a bit annoyed though, like everyone else, when they suddenly stopped them with no notice at all! I'm still using it, but obviously as time goes on, using it with an out of date pattern will become more and more risky.1 point

Actually, I thought the About: Menu custom button would work in Serpent 52, too. When I am back at my desktop computer, I will have a look at this. In New Moon 28, however, I can definitely confirm that this custom button works as it should. Generally, most custom buttons tested by me worked in both browsers. But, of course, we all know the proof is in the pudding.1 point

In 2012+ mobos voltage is usually shown in BIOS. Voltage drops should be visible in any somewhat decent motherboard made after that year, for example my MSIB85 reports voltage fluctuations in real time.1 point

No "damage" to the RAM will happen, those are specifically designed for overclockers. Their aluminium cooling solution doesn't allow them to overheat. Voltage slightly increased by 0.5 percent won't magically kill them. No "greater physical consumption" will happen either.1 point

FYI! Those who might have already downloaded the new version uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.32, please, reload it if the link is available again! I have revised the way of name and ID change. This way is cleaner and more global. PS: The new version can be downloaded again. An additional, strange bug happened,, and it was a bit difficult to find the cause of it. Now, I have fixed it, and the new version should hopefully run without further problems. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

I feel you. But hey, 8 years is a good run. RAM also degrades overtime. No reason to throw it away yet. Try increase the voltage a bit, like I wrote above.1 point

I'm giving out the most common errors from the several of my systems. fltmgr.sys error accompanied by "0000008e, parameter1 c0000005" = faulty RAM (maybe not enough power supplied, if that RAM is overclocked, bad batch of chips, low binned, like the "famous" Taiwanese Kingston, for example.) Fix - replace RAM, try to bump up the voltage in the BIOS (add a small increase, sometimes it's enough).1 point

From my long experience with XP/Server. fltmgr.sys error accompanied by "0000007e, parameter1 c0000005" = faulty HDD (maybe only damaged file system due to a power outage)1 point

The filter list "filters.txt" with the title "uBlock filters" loads all the other lists "filters-202x.txt" where x is an integer from 0 to 4. They all form a single filter list with the title "uBlock filters". What is there not to understand? If you want to have a deeper understanding of all these things, then you need to consult the sources I provided in my previous posts and you should examine the filter lists themselves.1 point
-
The filter list with the title "uBlock filters" contains filters optimised for uBlock, to be used along EasyList. Here is a link for more information: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets To get information about each list, you have to look inside them. New filters from 2024 will be stored in the list "filters-2024.txt". Here is a quotation from inside the list: Which optimised folders? The "Optimized" filter lists are simply optimised versions of already existing ones. No more, no less. You can find them on the website Filterlists together with a description.1 point

Hello @Amigafever! I increased the maxVersion only to 32.* but it should install on Pale Moon 33 beta, too. The maxVersion is not that important as, for example, the minVersion. BTW, you can easily increase it yourself inside the install.rdf file. If my mod is working in the coming versions Pale Moon 33.x which of course has to be confirmed first, I will change the maxVersion to 33.* in my next update.1 point

Can you elaborate on these changes? What are the first two lists, and what are the optimized ones? I use the last official Ublock legacy, and Easylist and Easyprivacy work just fine, or so it seems. Hello @Octopuss! The lists "filters-2023.txt" and "filters-2024.txt" are new lists which are automatically loaded by the main filter list "filters.txt". This list can be found in the Filter lists tab with the title "uBlock filters". All of these filter lists are normally supplied by the xpi file by default and loaded internally. In the old beta xpi file of uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31b2, there were only the lists "filters.txt", "filters-2020.txt", "filters-2021.txt" and "filters-2022.txt". Due to the lack of updates, the new lists "filters-2023.txt" and "filters-2024.txt" have no longer been added to the xpi file. That's what I corrected. And I updated all of them additionally to also avoid loading errors and to be more up-to-date. The filter lists "EasyList (Optimized)" and "EasyPrivacy (Optimized)" are simply optimised filter lists of the already existing lists "EasyList" and "EasyPrivacy". Here is a quotation taken from the EasyList (Optimized) list's description on Filterlists: Both lists were recommended by @VistaLover, and that's actually enough for me to add them to my special mod. There are much more optimised versions of filter lists available, though. I will check them when time is available. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Here I found for you a confirmation from other sources: "Stop messages that contain 0x0000008E (0x8E for short) can have many causes, but the most common cause is bad RAM." https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/133988/stop-0x0000008e-error/1 point

The STOP 0x0000008E usually points to a RAM issue. Try to reset the RAM modules, or replace them, I had this error in 2012, it happened with a defective Kingston DDR3 module (Made in Taiwan, the over-popular blue one - Hyper-X). Oddly enough, it passed the Memtest just fine, so I placed it back, but when I started to edit a big video file, it BSODed on me again.1 point
