Using a more recent profile, the download window in New Moon 28 (2023-11-10) looks like in the following screenshot: I did not choose to open anything, of course. Unfortunately, there is no option in this window or entry in the Applications window to set the default action when downloading an executable file.3 points

I'm sorry, I don't see another one, is it that better?3 points

What are you talkin' about? That part of the code was omitted in Supermium from the start. And no "magical super alternatives" for win 7 either. Chrome 109 is too old now. 115 is the comfortable minimum here, in Europe.3 points

Simply switch the browser to "developer" mode, it works in supermium (which this topic is about). Should work in others.3 points

And when trying to download an exe file in my very old profile, the download window looks like in this screenshot: Cheers, AstroSkipper2 points

In the most recent version of New Moon 28, 2023-11-10, both, the application and the download window, is working and showing entries. Here are two screenshots taken from New Moon 28 (2023-11-10): Therefore, regarding New Moon 28, I can't confirm the issue in my very old profile as described by @VistaLover. I will also have a look when creating a new profile. Cheers, AstroSkipper2 points

In Firefox 4, the status bar was replaced with the add-on bar, an empty, but customizable, toolbar. In Firefox 29, Mozilla decided to rework the UI again, and ended up in removing the add-on bar as well. From Firefox 29 to 56, the add-on bar could be restored by the extensions Status-4-Evar or Classic Theme Restorer. Mypal 68 is based on the code of Firefox 68esr, called Firefox Quantum, where no add-on bar can be found or natively be enabled by the user. Therefore, I have been looking for ways to reimplement such a status or add-on bar in Mypal 68 with the functionality to display currently loading URLs and hovered links and to place toolbar buttons there. I finally managed to do this and now I have my status bar again like in the old days. The implementation was done by JavaScript and CSS. Here is a screenshot: Cheers, AstroSkipper2 points

Either of you tried to mod the desktop drivers? There's a chance up to R430 Kepler might work. https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/151873/en-us/2 points

Greeting top you, too! The service is not big, it's local. My profile is under constant and personal surveillance by the supervisor Tripredacus. I asked what could have triggered his attention many times. I asked the supervisor what post, word, text was not to his taste, yet he didn't point out to such. As he couldn't give me a clear answer, I'll not attach links to commercial sources, if you're not satisfied with my answer, please contact the supervisor Tripredacus and redirect the question there.2 points

New regular/weekly KM-Goanna release: https://o.rthost.win/kmeleon/KM76.5.0-Goanna-20231118.7z Changelog: Out-of-tree changes: * update Goanna3 to git c0c677f5cf...41439a0592: - import changes from `dev' branch of rmottola/Arctic-Fox: - Bug 1216751 part 1. Restrict value iterators to interfaces that have indexed properties and pair iterators to interfaces that do not have indexed properties. r=qdot (6519f3f8c5) - Bug 1216751 part 2. For value iterators, "entries", "keys", and "values" must just come from Array.prototype. r=qdot (c0859f945c) - Bug 1216751 part 3. For pair iterators, @@iterator should be an alias for "entries". Similarly for maplikes and "entries" and setlikes and "values". r=qdot (bbe7c04782) - Bug 1216751 part 4. Implement forEach for iterable interfaces. r=qdot (8fdba677a4) - Bug 1216751 part 5. Remove the now-unnecessary value iterator infrastructure, since it's entirely handled via the %ArrayPrototype% methods now. r=qdot (88d3911694) - Bug 1231333 - part 1, JS engine: only allow futexWait in workers. r=luke (28e16fd2f9) - Bug 1231333 - part 2, DOM: only allow futexWait in workers. r=khuey (6c4dc98037) - Bug 1148990 - Don't ship bagheeraclient.js or tokenserverclient.js on Android. r=gps (aa9b22699a) - Bug 1216749 - Land the Firefox Kinto.js client (r=rnewman) (ea8c74e2ea) - Bug 1230221 - Convert JS callsites to use asyncOpen2 within services/ (r=sicking) (07ac8751f1) - Bug 1242965 - Make services/common eslintable. r=rnewman (0c84562750) - Bug 1055616 - Skip addons addons without a sourceURI or from a non-secure domain rather than treating them as errors. r=rnewman (7b8b738be0) - Bug 1229986 - get Sync tps tests starting again. r=whimboo (8cd0bf4f7f) - Bug 1003204: Removed CommonUtils.exceptionStr() in services/sync r=makh r=gfritzsche (830c106a29) - Bug 1003204: Removed CommonUtils.exceptionStr() in services/common/ r=gfritzsche (2c7bd4f8b5) - Bug 1234734 - Replace CommonUtils.stackTrace() with Log.stackTrace(). r=markh (3f0e88f192) - Bug 1241715 - get Sync TPS tests working locally by tweaking observers listened for and the authentication setup. r=whimboo (529b2f3d44) - Bug 1203736 - Convert H264::DecodeSPS assert to error return. r=jya (41c8c34c42) - Bug 1186716: Error if SPS NAL parsing failed. r=rillian (6c158be51e) - Bug 1187076 - Warn at end of SPS buffers. r=jya (2a49671261) - fix broken files (a090aad200) - Bug 1218217: avoid buffersize overflow even if codec is unbounded in dimensions r=pkerr (356140c947) - Bug 1218217: bustage fix for static assert r=bustage (e86dc5bf3a) - Bug 1041882 - Remove Froyo-specific support from libcubeb. r=snorp, r=padenot (e1f2d5283f) - Bug 1073319 - Enable AVX2 for libvpx on linux (update.py). r=rillian (934fd0a896) - Bug 1245027 - Move LOCAL_INCLUDES to moz.build in media/libvpx. r=mshal (7e56797d0e) - parts of Bug 1151175 - Update libvpx update.py for 1.4.0. Same here. If you still have last weeks versions copy in nss3.dll from each into today's versions. That seems to stop the crash until Roy can fix it.1 point
-
Yep, but in your Download or more precisely Opening dialogue , you have the option to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on". In New Moon 28 and Serpent 52 (2023-11-10), this option doesn't exist anymore for downloading an exe file when using a fresh profile. At the moment, the only way to directly open the Save File dialogue is to add the missing mime application/octet-stream what I have just done and to set then the option Save File manually in the Applications window. I hope this missing option will be restored.1 point

Thanks to @AstroSkipper (& @mina7601, who came in second ) for his input on the "blank" applications NM28 preferences window; this led me to further investigation on my system... I discovered that several other portable browser installations on my system exhibit the same bug/issue, including FxESR 52.9.1, so this is probably a system-wide change that causes this... At first I thought something had gone awry in my system, e.g. a registry corruption or some Windows service having been broken/disabled or needing a stop/restart... Then, being more calm, I thought of what applications I installed globally in the recent past and turns out it was an update to Java RE 8 (version 8u391). JRE8 has long been deprecated for the Windows XP SP3 OS, with jre-8u152-windows-i586.exe being the last XP-compatible installer... On Vista SP2 x86, the last version that will install out-of-the-box is jre-8u361-windows-i586.exe; however, I did manage to install later versions 8u361 -> 8u371 -> 8u381 -> 8u391 via a "hack", which is OT for this thread ... JRE8 comes with an NPAPI plugin and its up-to-date version (Next Generation Java plugin 11.391.2 for Mozilla browsers) displays properly inside about:plugins (St52): as well as in "about:addons => plugins"; however, when the state of this NPAPI plugin is set to "Ask to Activate"/"Always Activate", the blank Applications tab issue manifests itself ; switch it to "Never Activate", restart the browser and then the Applications tab will populate with content! I'm short for time now, but I'll have to investigate if previous JRE8 NPAPI plugin versions cause the same problem; @roytam1, given the Error Console I posted above, do you have any remote idea why that issue is caused? FWIW, when the JRE8 plugin is active, test pages like https://javatester.org/version.html https://atcsim.nasa.gov/version/index.html work as intended (the JRE8 version is correctly detected) ...1 point

And in Serpent 52 (2023-11-10), the download window is definitely not resized as it should : Sometimes, it is rendered correctly, but mostly not. @roytam1 Can you have a look into that? And is the content of this window as to be expected? Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

... I'm so frustrated to hear about this ... "Can get" ? It's always empty for me here Sure; below a screengrab and copied text from latest NM28 (32-bit): Timestamp: 17/11/2023 13:56:21 Error: NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE: Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE) [nsIMIMEService.getFromTypeAndExtension] Source File: chrome://browser/content/preferences/applications.js Line: 1064 ... My example was the .exe installer on the main page, but I ran into the bug regardless of the file type being downloaded. Sorry; it wasn't entirely clear. It's actually the "Open with" option, although, when downloading an .exe, the program to be used to "open" the file is blank: Then click the "Save File" button. The file will download to your temporary files folder and then be "opened" (run, in the case of an .exe). That is certainly "best practice" and should be followed if there's any doubt, but with reasonably trustworthy sites like 7-zip.org, I've learned that one can safely get away with a few "shortcuts." With 7-Zip it's not actually necessary to close all other apps, including the browser, before installing; therefore one can have the browser run the installer and disaster won't strike. The trick, of course, is to know when it's safe to do this, and when it's more risky - and I don't have a perfect record on this myself! At any rate, as I mentioned, this bug wasn't limited to executables; that just happened to be the (perhaps ill-advised) example I gave to reproduce it.1 point
-
Even then, I'm unable to replicate the issue @Mathwiz reported with Serpent 55 2023.10.26 build. I tried to download 7-Zip installer (both EXE & MSI), and they never gave me the "open file" option, only the "save file" option.1 point

New drivers are a scam. I now have a Keppler card (link) and old driver 352.94 gives me much better fps with Injustice 2, Injustice 2 (link) is a 2018 game! Who would have thought... Driver from this tutorial is also much better than the new ones.1 point

I have the same question. RDR2 now updated itself and started to demand even a higher driver version! Every time I try to start the game it says " Please update your driver. Game requires 446.14 or newer." Help is appreciated.1 point

Hello @a8s! Cookie Quick Manager 0.5rc2 (and probably most of the others as well) works in Mypal 68.13.5b. No problems here. Maybe, your profile or your Mypal installation is corrupt or misconfigured. First, you should create a fresh profile and try to install the extensions again. If this doesn't help, you can perform a fresh installation of Mypal 68.13.5b. Here is a proof in the form of a screenshot: Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Compared to legacy extensions I unfortunately do. Legacy extensions are able to change the browser interface and web pages. The so called "web" extensions are not.1 point

I'm doing a big edit on the message I posted in August, it seems that VS2022 17.7.x runs on W7. VS Installer is blocking the install but if you select "Download all, then install", VSI will show the popup when the download finishes, but if you click on Cancel, it will install VS and all component you selected as if nothing happened. Surprisingly, no modifications are required after that, VS just works as previous versions does. It also work for updating an existing install, by doing "More" > "Download, then update" So here again, another case of artificial limitations... Not tested for the current 17.8 pre-release, but it'll probably also work. EDIT : 17.8.0 works1 point

Yes, a very underrated OS. The last amazing OS after XP. Try Ex7ForW8 (Explorer from Windows 7 ) on it and see how the OS flies. Modern OSes (10,11...) started with 8.0... well I wrote a lot about it... I don't want to say the same again, but I'm happy to see when people appreciate this nice OS and I hope we have a good KernelEx for it one day.1 point

Try installing the driver manually through Device Manager. This ID is in the driver. At least in 474.11-desktop-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe It has the lines: %NVIDIA_DEV.24C9% = Section165, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_24C9 NVIDIA_DEV.24C9 = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti". Also, the system may be missing a platform update: KB26708381 point
