  1. Basilisk releases use the date for the version, for example "2023.11.05" is the most recent release of Basilisk. Basilisk release builds are compiled with "export BASILISK_VERSION=1" in the .mozconfig. Internally Basilisk releases present themselves to addons as "52.9.date" rather than just "date". This ensures that Basilisk works with extensions that were developed for Firefox 52. The 52.9.date internal version as well as the date version number comes from the confvars.sh shell script: https://repo.palemoon.org/Basilisk-Dev/Basilisk/src/branch/master/basilisk/confvars.sh You can also set BASILISK_VERSION to a date if you want to specify a date. For example, if you do "export BASILISK_VERSION=2023.12.01" then the Basilisk version number will be 2023.12.01. This functionality is in the above shell script as well. If "export BASILISK_VERSION=1" is not present in the .mozconfig then the version defaults to 52.9.0. This is the reason that Serpent uses 52.9.0 as the release number. 52.9.0 comes from the txt files in the basilisk/config directory:https://repo.palemoon.org/Basilisk-Dev/Basilisk/src/branch/master/basilisk/config

  8. I have never been using Windows XP Professional x64. Therefore, I cannot report from my own experience. As you already read in my article, this OS doesn't support SHA256 to sign certificates. Thus, I fear you are stuck with only ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a when accessing MU/WU. For more detailed information in terms of your OS, you should contact @maile3241. He got it working under Windows XP Professional x64. BTW, there are other options to update your OS. I listed them in my thread 'General and specific solutions for problems regarding AU/WU/MU in Windows XP'. Have a look here:

  16. Undoubtedly a memory leak! I checked it at my desktop computer but wrote it later using my tablet. Of course, I meant 2.14.0 and 2.13.2 respectively. Sorry for being incorrect! I hate that. Mea culpa! And thank you very much for your information! I used the forum search before but I must have overlooked your solution. I'm not that fit at the moment. And now I've infected you, too. Sorry again! PS: Original, faulty post has been corrected!

  17. To manage my user scripts, I use the legacy extension Greasemonkey for Pale Moon in New Moon 28 and the webextension Tampermonkey in Serpent 52. Everything runs well so far. Since the webextension Violentmonkey is mentioned here in the forum again and again, I took a closer look at it and installed the last compatible version 2.14.0 in a fresh profile under Serpent 52. Unfortunately, I found out that it does not work properly. The settings cannot be accessed via the toolbar button. Clicking onto the toolbar button to create a new script does not work either. After a lot of testing, it seems that the last fully working version is 2.13.2. @VistaLover I know you have been using Violentmonkey for some time. What version do you currently have installed? And is it fully functional? Edit: I corrected a memory leak inside my brain and corrected the version numbers. Maybe, I am too tired the last weeks.

  18. Thanks for your clarification and contribution here! As I already pointed out, I do appreciate it in any case. To have the correct min and max version numbers in the file install.rdf for each browser is sensible and fine.

  19. Panda Dome installs fine in Windows XP Professional SP3. No problems here. My system is fully updated including all POSReady updates. These are the system requirements for installing Panda Dome: Does your CPU support the SSE2 instruction set? Running an installation program that then immediately closes again is something I know well from systems whose CPU does not support SSE2, although the program needs this feature.

  20. I did a scan of my system partition by MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit. Surprisingly, the tool found a strange file that other AV programs did not notice. In any case, it is always a wise decision to use different scan tools. The one perfect tool will never exist. But we have to be glad that there are still a few tools running under Windows XP at all.
    1 point
  21. MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit is an antivirus/antimalware offline scanner for a manual checking of the computer and cleaning if necessary. WiseVector StopX is an AI based antivirus program with a background guard, but its development has stopped, unfortunately So they are completely different and not easy to compare. You will find only a few tests of both tools in the internet. They are not as well known as the AV programs produced by big antivirus manufacturers. MWAV is a good tool, easy to handle and is updated on a regular base. I do trust it. For more information, follow this link to its English homepage: https://www.escanav.com/en/mwav-tools/download-free-antivirus-toolkit.asp If you are looking for an antivirus program with real-time protection under Windows XP, you can try Panda Dome. I wrote about this program in previous posts. In my system, I use both, Panda Dome and MWAV. A good combination, in my opinion.

  22. You always pay with your data. Therefore, these commercial antivirus scanner are not really free. But if you don't want that, you should avoid using Microsoft Windows, especially more recent ones. In these OSs, you always pay with your data, even if you have paid for your Windows. You can switch to Linux or take all kinds of countermeasures. BTW, MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit is free of charge and an offline scanner which doesn't need any internet connections. Updating can be done offline, too. All has been described in this post and the subsequent:

  23. Thanks for your hint! I already wrote about these modifications here in these posts: I left the maxVersion at 52.9.* but it can increased at any time (especially for Serpent 55), of course. 25. "D." stands for my first name, let's assume it's Dereck, a very common name in France. Would it be hard for you to read and finally remember this simple text ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek "Derek is a masculine given name. It is the English language short form of Diederik, the Low Franconian form of the name Theodoric.Theodoric is an old Germanic name with an original meaning of "people-ruler".. Common variants of the name are Derrek, Derick, Dereck, Derrick, and Deric.Low German and Dutch short forms of Diederik are Dik, Dirck, and Dirk" You better tell me, why did you even ban win32 ? Enemies all around ?!?? lol. There's a huge list of users you banned, I see you don't like me, ok. But win32 ?!??!? And that poor Jody guy... But then again, I don't care, just don't bring the crap from your "forum" here. And stop creating fakes with MSFN members, using their names.

  26. I remember there were sweet times when we had a good function (at least POF had it longer than the others), where we could just block countries in batches. The first and obvious batch included Russia, Nigeria and similar. But later "they" started to get "clever" and used VPN to register from Western Europe/UK/US and things got more complicated. I wonder could it still be implemented here ?

  27. I'd be fine with it, if it was only like that. Unfortunately - no, it wasn't. I also remembered, along with you, they also lured @Jody Thornton, just for their laughs and giggles and kicked him out, after they finished with the "shaming". I don't remember how it was called precisely, but they had some sort a list of MSFN members they considered to be really stupid ("retards"). Jody (and you too) didn't deserve such "treatment". Yes, I know he can be quite compulsive at times, but then again, I still think he's a good guy deep inside. Who knows, perhaps they have really bad issues themselves and it's somewhat "cool" for a leftist dude(s) to bash on the grown-ups from normal Western countries ? This is what seems to me, at least.

  44. Actually this is my discovery, so should be polite to mention me. And I still do not have any answers why the much beloved russian (KGB or not) repackers "missed" out that important part completely. I mean , c'mon , russians are so cool at hacking (that's what they tell us on TV , no ?) , so how come they didn't "notice" ? Actually, they "missed" out lots of telemetry parts and codes generated by 360 Chromium to link each user to the PC he's using at the moment and much , much more... https://msfn.org/board/topic/182304-extreme-explorer-360-chromium-78-86-general-discussion/page/15/?tab=comments#comment-1194253

  45. Apologies accepted , peace. Yes , I told that before , it is not my default browser. But it may very well become one in the future , once I remove the rest of the bloat. Why ? I'm looking for a solid browser without the need of the Vista's extended kernel because I use Vista without it . As of now , I wrote a programme that launches it in "sandbox mode". Why in quotes ? Because it's not as simple as it may seem , it is actually a hybrid mode with many features disabled/enabled , somewhat similar to what developers do when testing browsers. For example , this programme disables various code generators in 360's engine and I just can't tell everything because it would be too much to type and I'm not fond of typing . In short , I made it's launch blazingly fast and secure and I will not need to manually hex the .dll each time I want to use another version , since the programme will pass on everything I want to the main.exe . I still need to figure out how to disable some ports that left. I wanted to ask why do you use 2206 and not the first version 11.x.x. ? Do you really think chinese are fixing Chromium bugs ? lol

  46. Also , I do not have anything against you personally , but this seems quite strange (just sayin') , I mean about how you insist on using repacked software from russian websites , typing in CAPS and all . I took a look at that site . It is a common russian warez website with tons of repacked commercial software. Is this even allowed by the moderators to redirect to such websites ?

  47. It really feels like something personal . What do you want to say , smth like "Dixel is giving a bad advice" ?! The poster clearly stated to you that he wants to use the original version and it is too hard for him to download from your link , did you see it ? It is his choice . So I'm giving the advice based on his wishes. It is very obvious, if you use another version (repacked) , the outcome will be different , no ? Errorpage.zip and newtab.zip is not connecting to any websites . lol. By deleting it you simply remove the chinese new tab and error warning in their language . Also , simply replacing 360.cn in Hex Editor won't give you the desired result . It would be too easy , wouldn't it ? You definitely need to dig much deeper . They aren't that silly to just left everything in the open ...
