As previously reported, the virus definitions update for Avast Free Antivius 2015 version 10.4.2233.1299 will be discontinued at the end of this summer. This applies to all versions from 9 to 11. See here: https://blog.avast.com/virus-definition-updates-eol Therefore, I recommend for all those, who are interested in this version or want to use it later, to download the latest Avast VPS update for versions 9 to 11. Here is the download link: https://install.avcdn.net/ivps9x/vpsupd.exe At the moment, it is still being updated. Therefore, check regularly until the last version is delivered! DON'T use search from www.qwant.com, since it serves only webp format, no way to change it.3 points

And what if people just want to block it due to the crappy quality? "I hate webp with every fiber of my being......" "it's F...ing everywhere now. and they look like crap. id*** putting up low res webp's and just dynamicly upscaling them to fit. And it look sh*t. Blurry as hell, smudged... People have even begun using them in renpy games or rpgm, or any other game they are able to get it to work in." "It's just bad, even colours look a little off in them" https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/btblqh/how_do_i_disable_webp/2 points

I fail to understand why do they all patch only the standard chrome, not ungoogled.2 points

I too have this question! It seems odd. First they write they stay on older OS to be less spied on, second they port the standard Chrome/chromium, really odd.1 point

The thing is, screens are wider than in XP days so I hated the feature of taskbar grouping since windows 7. Tipically I set the taskbar to small icons and group only when taskbar is full. And well I shouldn't need important options hidden to me when I do a right click. I don't mind the new design since I can recognize copy and paste but it should have all the commands available and not hidden. @Andromeda43 Windows versions have not gone faster. They're slower. What they do to disguise it is never fully shutdown by using hybrid shut down since Windows 8. It makes you believe that your pc starts instantly. But you can confirm they're slower if you use a regular hard drive and a dual core cpu. We have cpus with so many cores and very fast SSD's that could make you think that Windows is getting faster.1 point

I hope not - Serpent can certainly use all the speedups it can get! But in any case, at least it's fixed now.1 point

I tried Supermium, finally, well it's quite good, but not portable and writes BrowserMetrics info collecting. Open it with Hex, you will see. You know what, you're right! I'll stick to the ported Opera 97 and Ungoogled 111, apply the anti webp-crap patch to decrapify them, certainly. If you use Opera, don't forget to apply the patch against collecting info-spying, made by @D.Draker. https://msfn.org/board/topic/184249-chrome-110-based-opera-i-ported-it-to-vista/?do=findComment&comment=12388781 point

That's right. But of course, no proof also does not mean a theory is incorrect. Think, for example, of Fermat's Last Theorem!1 point
-
This is true if we were talking about quantum physical states. But a theory in the macroscopic space (and that's what we are talking about) can only have one of two states, either true or false. We have to prove it. Until we have done that, we cannot say yes (true) or no (false). But both at once, as in the quantum physical world, that cannot happen in the macroscopic world at all.1 point

Yep, I used it, too. It is a pity that a project like WiseVector StopX was simply shut down. But I had the impression that the developers only wanted to get their hands on data in order to launch a commercial product on the market and earn money. The users were more like guinea pigs to feed their artificial intelligence (AI) they had implemented into WiseVector StopX.1 point

I'm sorry, I don't know what that is. If it's some Western. I'm not fond of them, so no wonder I'm not familiar. Do you still have the delay issue with chrome?1 point

A bit, maybe, not much though, if we are to assume you run very basic 59-60HZ screens. Those who have troubles with high temps on a multi setup, they usually run 120HZ monitors and up.1 point

Two possibilities, either you live in Hell, or you need to replace the thermal solution, because even a higher binned GT640 runs idle at 37C and at about 75C under full load, and this matches the temps of the above posters. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/gt640-safe-temperatures.2014480/1 point

Maybe his card has passive cooling. Another possibility. it's too old (pre-2008-2009) to downclock itself, when in idle, or the drivers are buggy.1 point

Gladly, unfortunately no such function for simple peasants. The only function it has, "insert image from URL".1 point

I realise that now and I will stop doing and an apology to the staff for having to put up with my problems1 point

'Guys' is definitely one of the many Americanisms that polluted entered British English a long time ago, but until relatively recently was only used for men. Groups of women being called 'guys' (often by women members of the group) is now common though. Personally I consider that to be slang! Anyway, having just hypocritically added to it, back on topic now please!1 point

I too remember when there was an enormous price premium on laptops! It seemed to all change around the time that Windows 7 was released, all the computer shops around me suddenly had hardly any desktops on sale and it was all laptops. (Of course all those computer shops are gone now too, but that's a different story!) My issue with laptops is that they are very hard to physically upgrade. My desktop is an evolution of a machine I first bought in 1999, and it has been updated and changed a huge amount since then. In fact it's pretty much a "Trigger's Broom"* but I still consider it to be the same machine for some perverse reason! The point is that it has never been completely replaced, it's always been capable of being updated/upgraded to serve my developing needs. Contrast that with my netbook, which I keep mainly for its small size. It does at least have a conventional drive, which I've replaced with an SSD, many modern machines have solid state storage which is completely fixed and cannot be changed. It does have 4GB of memory, which is fine for the 32 bit versions of XP and 10 which I run on it (it is actually a 64 bit machine) but the processor is a 1GHz dual core piece of AMD rubbish which is like a millstone round the neck of the system and is of course completely non-upgradable. It's just about OK for what I use it for, but a machine like that will never replace a desktop as far as I'm concerned. *["Trigger's Broom", for those who may not get the reference, refers to a character called Trigger in the BBC sitcom "Only Fools and Horses". In one episode he famously declared that he had been using the same broom for many many years, although in that time it had had to have the handle and the brush individually replaced several times, the joke being that of course that meant that it wasn't actually the same broom at all!]1 point

The actual error when using that version of MSO.DLL and trying to run Word is - "Application popup: winword.exe - Entry Point Not Found : The procedure entry point GetFinalPathNameByHandleW could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll." That message appears again if dismissed, followed by the "operating system is not configured" message. There is no mention of EnumCalendarInfoExEx but that does look very like a function which was referenced in an earlier error.1 point

Yeah , but how come this is not a problem for that Chinese player ? It plays HD tracks flawlesly , DTS HD MA , TrueHD and the such . I might even say the sound quality is far more superior than with most of the popular ones (commercial and "open" source) . All I want to say , I can live with this "glitchy" player as it (obviously) doesn't need anything to be replaced . I can tell how I trick it . 1 - Open the player (don't close) at this point it can play compressed DTS and AC3 only , 2 - Go to >playback devices< and choose >test supported formats< , play Dolby Digital test file , when Windows asks "did you hear the sound from your receiver?" answer yes and press ok . That's it - you can play ALL HD formats now , but only with this specific player . Somehow it hooks to it , while it is opened . So Vista is fully capable of playing HD formats without replaciing anything . I blame the Nvidia driver and/or some settings created by it. Which are easely bypassed by the Chinese player.1 point

I suspect that it is for creating registry entries with "HD" capable device strings under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Render\{my receiver auto generated id}\Properties] This one is interesting too , notice different "oem" for win7 and Vista. oem9.inf:NVIDIA.NTamd64.6.0:NVHDA64V:1.3.34.3:hdaudio\func_01&ven_10de&dev_0044 oem3.inf:NVIDIA.NTamd64.6.1:NVHDA64V:1.3.34.3:hdaudio\\func_01&ven_10de&dev_0044 If drivers gets 6.1 or anything higher , it will create those missing and/or different entries I was talking about earlier . They are auto generated and couldn't be added manually to stay forever , they will get erased and replaced with the non-HD strings. Nvidia forbids HD audio on Vista , even if you have HD capable device. By the way , this "issue" could be a lawsuit since Nvidia claims GTX780 full support on Vista , including HD audio. How to put it polite - customer misleading. In the meantime, I use that Chinese player with that pleasant "glitch", now I know how to replicate the glitch . It's not the best solution , I hope to get a fully working driver.1 point
