Hi, so I bought myself a present and got windows 8.0 pro sealed in box. I even built period correct computer for that. I know we have 8.0 diehards over here so my question is: 1) I updated the os and now I see "hey you should update to 8.1 or 10" message. What's the quickest way to update it with server 2012 updates andd should I be worried about anything? 2) .net framework 4.8 (is it even possible?) 3) Internet explorer (should I even bother with ie11?) 4) Windows 7 explorer on 8 is it worth trying or just stick with openshell? Thanks

1) Check @Jody Thornton's "Server 2012 Updates on Windows 8" topic. You will find all the information about installing Server 2012 updates on Windows 8. 4) I don't recommend it, as there are limitations with using it, so, unless you are ok with the limitations, stick with Open-Shell.

2) I am not quite into 8.0 but I think .net Framework 4.8 should definitly be compatible, since it can be installed on Vista too. I just think you have to install the one that was offered to Server 2012 R1, by modifying the installer 3) I actually used IE as my main browser till at least the end of 2017/early 2018, but I wouldn't waiste my time and patience with endlessly patching that Dinosaur. Back in the days, I desperatly tried to find ways in how to backport IE10 to Vista, but even I noticed that it won't change much. Websites will still not render properly and you can't access modern media sites, like Spotify. I mean IE11 can be sideloaded, there was a way described in this forum, but I don't think it is worth doing. Go with Edge if you really want to have IE's legacy living up, but otherwise Chrome, Opera or Firefox.

For startes, first reason. Because that plonkers banned @win32. (I actually discovered it quite recently). Tell me, what kind of creature one needs to be, to ban win32 ? I can't write insulting words here... Second, there's no one there who could help me with anything I want. Third, annoying spam from them. Silly language (like 12 y.o. children). Fourth - two and a half users there. Enough ? Some of you write how wonderful that weird website is, however you're all still here. EDIT: Not to mention security issues and very questionable content (RAR, 7ZIP) on their "website".

It all comes to down to our hobbies in the end. Hobbies are a very good distraction, actually ! As of I now, I'm pretty much distracted with MK11, still without sound though, lol. During spring/summer I was busy with cleansing this world off of the rerds by reducing their quantities in real life, so I found myself a good combination - gaming/real life action. That's good download speed. The higher, the better. I connect here at home at around 180 Mbps if on LAN (which I never use! I find wi-fi to be more "secure") but at 25 to 45 Mbps when on wi-fi (depending on how many devices are online). Anything over 25 Mbps seems more than adequate for 4k hi-res streaming. A dropped frame here or there doesn't mean too much, every dropped frame is not a crackle in audio or a lag in video, you have to drop DOZENS of frames "back to back" before you get a crackle or lag. The number of dropped frames is NOT IMPORTANT. The RATE at how fast you drop a frame IS important.

V13.5 build 1030: ZERO dropped frames. And that was with me throttling my internet connection all the way down to 5 Mbps (edit - correction, I was throttling at 8 Mbps but the speed test was only showing a tad over 5 Mbps - point is, even that low, I had ZERO dropped frames) - Perhaps we should have started here - are you running any anti-virus? Or how about how many "processes" does your OS run? How many other tabs are open?

Just a quick question: Where are you guys hanging out for the most part other than here? XP Forum is quite slow nowadays and so are others from what I can see. I've not been over at eclipse lately. Just reading as I've been away sine my first posting over there.
