I decided not to update the repository much further, since in order to stay up to date you only need to install all the updates until EOL (2016), then all Post EOL updates on my repo until September 2016 and finally just grab the latest Servicing Stack Update and Monthly Rollup offered on Microsoft's page, It's always the same deal every month, just grab the latest SSU, MR and maybe check out the .NET blog for any Security Rollups. The repo was more essential back when it was individual security updates every month IMO. Flash was removed with KB4577586, so that's a non issue these days. The last .NET update that works with vanilla Windows 8.0 is .NET 4.6.2. Unfortunately, .NET 4.8 only installs if Server 2012 or Embedded 8 Standard parent packages are available. It is possible to edit some of the update's .mum files and slipstream them offline, but you need to do this for every possible .NET 4.8 update in the future, and I figured it would be too much of a hassle for the regular user.2 points

Some weeks ago, @mina7601 reported an issue on GitHub relating to DevianArt. Its website was refusing to load in Mypal 68. And greyrat116 posted a solution to solve this problem. The variable layout.css.resizeobserver.enabled has to be set to true. Thank you, greyrat116 = @grey_rat ?, for posting this solution! The issue is closed now. Why do I mention this here? When posting an article or a comment in this forum, or an issue on GitHub, I love to use some animated gifs. The last time when I reported an issue on GitHub, I used one of these gifs. Here is the link to this issue: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/96 In New Moon 28, I had no problem to load this site and the animated gif was loading correctly either. But in Mypal 68, this site was loaded without showing that gif. Try it! Setting layout.css.resizeobserver.enabled to boolean value true solves this problem. Background: The ResizeObserver interface reports changes to the dimensions of an Element's content or border box, or the bounding box of an SVGElement. Anyway, thanks again to @mina7601 and presumably @grey_rat ( if my identification is correct, I'm not a Sherlock Holmes!) for posting and solving this issue! Cheers, AstroSkipper2 points

It has been considered. I would like to do so, and probably will eventually. Development is very slow, but at minimum not "dead". Stay tuned.2 points

There goes the environment.....I have been building computer's for years and never have I had a computer that has failed...yes sometimes a psu will fail because of a poor electric central....but those computers just keep going and going... I have upgraded many of them with SSD's for system drives and moved the user to a larger drive.....but I always point out the SSD's I use usually have a five year warranty and that if they are going to buy a new computer save the drives from the old one... I try my best to persuade customers to replace a drive instead of buying a new computer....OK....that being said MANY of my customers NOT ALL will not pay for a reinstallation on a new drive if a drive fails or even clone to a newer drive....they have the same answer all of them "can put that money on a new computer instead" I always work even harder on such customers to make them think of te environment - BUT at the end of the day it is up to them.... Now there is another side to this and that is if a computer is already 6 to 7 years old I do point out that...Yes, a new SSD will make things better but it will not change the fact that Microsoft will not support Windows 11 on their hardware and that Windows 10 has end of life 2025... Some customers will still upgrade to a new SSD but many want help with buying a new computer... WE HAVE TO THINK OF THE ENVIRONMENT! IT IS THE ONLY ONE WE HAVE! End of Rant.... bookie321 point

I am not sure I understand....this is a thread about installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.....so what part of "Microsoft don't want us to use older computers....so why waste the energy?" don't you understand? You have a use Windows 7 and there will come a time when you can't use that because of the restrictions for newer processors. All unsupported hardware is in Microsoft's view old hardware...I have built several games computers on hardware that cost them a small fortune but because of not meeting the requirements for Windows 11 they either have to do what others are doing here or buy new hardware.... We will never be able to trust Microsoft?!! I get asked to build expensive computers and they don't just cut it after just over three years.... Because the world is in crisis and things are just going to keep getting more expensive....we try to make our computers last as long as possible.....not easy when Microsoft lies and lies over and over again.... Sorry if I was unclear...has been known...lol bookie321 point

I don't think @feodor2 reads this thread. It was opened by a member. Therefore this thread is not an official one. If you have a request or whatever, you have to do that on GitHub. Here is a link to the issues: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues BTW, thanks for responding to my instructions for using CustomCSSforFx: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183657-mypal-68-in-windows-xp-custom-buttons-and-extensions/?do=findComment&comment=1220562 Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

My essential tools for solving problems in Windows XP — Part 1 — WU/MU tools WinUpdatesList: WinUpdatesList is a tool from NirSoft and displays the list of all Windows updates (Service Packs and Hotfixes) installed on your local computer. For hotfix updates, this utility also displays the list of files updated with these hotfixes. In addition, it allows you to instantly open the provided link to its Microsoft website, but you have to use in most cases the Wayback Machine nowadays. It provides more information about the selected update, uninstall an update, copy the update information to the clipboard, or save it to text/HTML/XML file. The latest and presumably last version is 1.33. Language files are available too. Links: Homepage: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wul.html Portable version: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wul.zip Installer version: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wul_setup.exe WinUpdatesView: WinUpdatesView is another simple tool from NirSoft that displays the history of Windows updates on your system. WinUpdatesView can load the Windows updates history from your local system, using API, and it can also read and parse the Windows updates database file (DataStore.edb) from external drive or from remote computer on your network. For every Windows update history record, WinUpdatesView displays the following fields: Title, Description, Install Date, Update Operation (Install, Uninstall, Not Started, In Progress), Operation Result (Succeeded, Succeeded With Errors, Failed, Aborted), Category, Information URL, Support URL, Uninstall Notes, Client Application ID, Service ID, Update ID, Revision Number, Unmapped Result Code, Server Selection, hResult. The latest version is 1.17. Language files are available too. Links: Homepage: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/windows_updates_history_viewer.html Portable version: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/winupdatesview.zip WUMT - Windows Update MiniTool 20.12.2016: Windows Update MiniTool (WUMT) is a free alternative to the standard Windows Update; it puts you in control of updates by allowing you to search, install, and block Windows updates as you please. WUMT can be used offline either. The version from 20.12.2016 is the last working in Windows XP. Link: https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2021/12/windows-update-minitool-20122016.html Additionally, you need a file from Microsoft called wsusscn2.cab, dated from 09.12.2019, to use WUMT offline. You can get it by using the Wayback Machine. Link: https://web.archive.org/web/20191209214827/http://download.windowsupdate.com/microsoftupdate/v6/wsusscan/wsusscn2.cab Reset Windows Update Tool (Script): Reset Windows Update Tool (Script) resets the Windows Update Components and is said to be working properly. Since I had no problems regarding MU/WU recently and usually prefer manual methods to keep control, it has not been tested by me, so no guarantee of success and use at your own risk. I recommend to back up your system partition completely at first or at least the Windows folder SoftwareDistribution. Here is the homepage at GitHub: https://github.com/ManuelGil/Script-Reset-Windows-Update-Tool The last XP compatible version is 10.5.3.7: https://www.mediafire.com/file/k48ll6e41eypogy/ResetWUEng10.5.3.7.zip/file A less recent version 10.5.3.4, with a help file included, can be downloaded here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/wl0yrq98me8dfkj/ResetWUEng10.5.3.4.zip/file A list of all parts of my My essential tools for solving problems in Windows XP can be found in my post of Additional Resources. I've seen this at least a dozen times over the last year. Not with that water bill site, per se, but on the modern web in general. I read somewhere that the "future" will not have User Agents, MOST web designers KNOW that a CRAPLOAD of users FAKE their User Agents so MOST web designers DO NOT USE THEM, they use "combinations" of things to TRULY know what browser/platform you are using. I've seen users here at MSFN "fake" a CELL PHONE user agent but then not even bother "faking" their display resolution. Any 5th grader working on a school project can tell you the user agent is FAKED because no cell phone built in the next 10 years has a 4K screen resolution! So it's about a "combination" of detected metrics, not just one simplistic User Agent string that "we" have been FAKING for the last TWENTY PLUS YEARS.1 point

As Paul Harvey might have said, "the rest of the story." You'd think Amwater's banner would at least tell you that Win XP or Vista was no longer supported, rather than telling you to "update" your browser to a version older than the one you're running! But they probably don't care, as long as those "evil" XPers are kept out of their site. But that leaves me wondering: Why is NM 28 allowed, even though its default UA would reveal the same evil Windows version? I guess some mysteries will never be solved. So PM 30 was sort of their Windows 8! "Whoops, this was a hot mess; better clean things up with a new version ASAP." PM 29's life cycle seemed short, but perhaps that's because I was "spoiled" by PM 28's long life cycle, and/or because PM 29's subversion numbers only got up to 4, making it seem shorter. The Covid pandemic may have warped my perception of time as well. I might have compromised and increased NM's subversion number to 17 from 10 by now, maximizing compatibility with PM add-ons while avoiding the pitfalls with legacy FF ones. But it's not my project, and I'm sure Roytam1 has other reasons to stick to 28.10. NM isn't even my main browser, so my interest is mostly academic anyway.1 point

http://forum.ru-board.com/topic.cgi?forum=2&topic=5894&start=60#2 In Firefox 68, for one process, it was necessary to disable the option and add two files to the folders where Firefox is located. In MyPal he did it differently. If you press Alt+Ctrl+del and open multiple tabs, 2 processes will be displayed. Youtube is trying to stream video in AV1 codec, it's hard for processors without SSSE3, SSE4, AVX. Additionally https://www.reddit.com/r/AV1/comments/b3bcft/firefox_nightly_now_uses_dav1d_021/ It is advisable to disable media.av1.enabled and media.rdd-process.enabled OpenGL it somehow works with ATI, with Nvidia it's bad, with Intel it's very bad. Slightly reduce memory consumption if: browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory - true, layers.async-pan-zoom.enabled - false, layers.omtp.enabled - false, dom.ipc.processCount 1-3. But it is for slow computers. Fast computers will lose in performance1 point
