  1. To be picky (as I am, BTW) no, that (nice) thread was started no less than three years after EOS, not three days, this may be a relevant difference. Yep, that's why waiting a few years might be needed to have more meaningful entries, still the photo taken about the scaremongering since the 14th Jan is nice, particularly because it is the same day a (really serious) insecurity in Windows 10 was made public. jaclaz

  3. I last tested those Qemu versions before Kernelex was a thing so it's possible kernelex will work for those. Bochs It's possible for those versions I tested with Kernelex. If you don't want to use Kernelex you can try Bochs 2.3.7. Bochs 2.0 (Windows 95) Bochs 2.3.7 (Windows 95B) Bochs 2.6.6 (Windows 98+) Kernelex Bochs 2.6.9 (Windows 98+) Kernelex QEMU 14 1. Download Qemu v15 http://virtuallyfun.superglobalmegacorp.com/?p=1214 2. Extract contents of .zip. 3. Download Hexedit. 4. Open up all executables with hexedit 5. Replace all instances of "freeaddrinfo", "getaddrinfo", and "getnameinfo" with "gethostname". (Zero out any extra characters). 6. Done! Qemu Manager v7.0 (QEMU 0.11.1 (Accelerated) 1. Must have at least IE5 installed! 2. Install Qemu Manager. 2. Execute Qemu Manager. If you receive an error about wininet.dll then you do not have IE5+ installed. 3. Open Qemu.exe with the Hexedit program. 4. Replace "freeaddrinfo", "getaddrinfo", and "getnameinfo" with "gethostname". 5. Start Qemu Manager! 6. When you create a VM in the VM options change "Main Display" to "QEMU Windows", otherwise your VM will not load. Unknown if the above changes break network functionality so try kernelex first. Qemu 0.15.0 - Use Kernelex (No acceleration)

  4. What about Paracelsus for serpent. "Paracelsus (1493—1541), was an Austrian physician, born Phillip Von Hohenheim. On accident, he discovered he could speak to snakes. He had no explanation for the phenomenon and made no attempt to document its simple existence. In the 1990's, the now-famous Harry Potter discovered that he was a Parselmouth" Source http://linguifex.com/wiki/Parseltongue Mail newsgroups doesn't need its own name, it can be added after the same name roytam1 decides for UXP.. So if he decided on Sea Wolf for UXP Than it would be Sea Wolf Mail & Newsgroups Mozilla did the same exact thing. They called it Mozilla Mail & Newsgroups. Perfectly acceptable. BTW The Sea Wolves is also an excellent movie. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081470/

  7. I've been wondering the same thing. My first thought was that the vulnerability probably affects versions based on FF 49, when the JS engine was rewritten, or later; if so, then FF 45, NM 27, ArcticFox, etc. wouldn't be vulnerable. But as you say, the javascript.options.ion pref does exist in those older browser versions, so I'm not all that confident about that assessment. it is proved unvulnerable, at least on ppc. http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2020/01/tenfourfox-not-vulnerable-to-cve-2019.html and nm27 repo had a big front-end merging with arcticfox devel branch, tested with my preliminary browsing test and hope everything works.

  9. Peach Moonshine, for Pale Moon 28 (and 27), is a serious sugestion, it has the same initials as Pale Moon, and is less insipid than most sugestions put forward here, up to now. Moreover, I've provided both the about-background.png and a multiresolution icon for that as a start point.

  10. @Destro and @TechnoRelic - I like both of your suggestions. (But don't forget we need a name for MailNews too, even though it isn't a browser.) But Moonchild might think of "Wolf Moon" the same way @roytam1 thought of "Royfox;" it would be best if he's OK with whatever names we choose. I can't see Moonchild or @Matt A. Tobin having objections to "celestial" names in general; after all, the latter suggested Neptune as a name. And I think it's OK to acknowledge the Pale Moon heritage of whatever we end up calling New Moon, as long as it's not so similar that folks might think MCP created these. @TechnoRelic's names seem to me to be in the "sweet spot" where the names are different enough (especially with the RFox prefix) to avoid confusion but still subtly give credit to the original works.

  11. Glad you hear you got it working again. It was a rough few weeks, I'm sure - and right around the holidays too.

  12. Hi Mr.Ruskie. If this is a serious request please start a new thread with more specifics and an appropriate title. For dial up you need a modem, not a network card. Provide more information exactly what you've tried and where you're stuck.

  13. Throughout time, the number of processes to support my empty desktop, with my favorite tweaks and "to work" software: XP: High teens. 100 MB. Vista: 30 or so. 800 MB. Win 7: 34. 1 GB. Win 8.1: 42. 1.2 GB. Win 10: 120. 4 GB. 3x the processes prior versions had to rock, just to get anything done. Says it all right there. No wonder it really doesn't seem to run any better on modern hardware than prior versions did on the best hardware of 7 years ago. And you can't really trim it down any more, for several reasons. Back when we thought Vista, Win 7, and Win 8.1 were bloated, we simply didn't know what True Bloat was. -Noel
