  2. Just curious really, since I have a Vista system but no Server 2008 key. In theory, you should be able to use anything that still works on Vista (and R2 should be able to use anything, since Windows 7 is still supported by everything, at least for the time being). On the other hand, a lot of security software does not officially support any server, and there may be artificial blocks - or issues related to Server 2008 updates released after Vista's EOL in April 2017 (e.g. the Meltdown and Spectre patches). Server 2008 will of course become an unsupported operating system very soon, so security software seems like a timely topic for diehards to discuss. I'm sure you could use Avast 18.8 (which I'm using on Vista), or its near-twin AVG 18.8 if you prefer. There was a serious compatibility issue with these legacy versions when Server 2008 SP2's build number changed to 6.0.6003 after the April 2019 updates, but Avast became aware of the issue thanks to a spiceworks thread and issued a micro-update to correct it on June 4, 2019. I'm especially curious if anyone is using Microsoft Security Essentials 4.10.209.0 on Server 2008. MSE never officially supported any server, and I believe that Microsoft blocked installation - but that can reportedly be overcome. MSFN member @Werewolf's March 24, 2017 post showed MSE working on Server 2008 without the pre-EOL nagging that affected users running Vista, but did not discuss installation procedures. Definition updates for MSE will reportedly continue after January 14, but no one knows for how long. I also wonder if anyone is using Sandboxie on Server 2008. The Meltdown and Spectre patches reportedly caused issues with Sandboxie, at least at one time. (I'm using Sandboxie 5.22 on Vista 6002 without the M&S patches.)

  4. a pull request about enabling aes128-gcm-sha256 in pref has been created. https://github.com/rn10950/RetroZilla/pull/40 and also NSS code changes for support SHA384 have their own pull request: https://github.com/rn10950/RetroZilla/pull/38

  5. This is what @Matt A. Tobin said when he suggested the code names he used: So yes; those "in the know" might get that Freestyle, e.g., is the media-focused browser of the bunch. But we don't have to use those particular names; they just comprise a theme for those "in the know." True, I didn't know those code names either until @Matt A. Tobin suggested them. But no one needs to understand the theme to use the names! If you open it up to all M$ code names (not just XP versions), you have some better choices IMO. For New Moon, Triton is an obvious choice (it's a moon, after all); Aurora is the obvious choice for Borealis. The artwork to use for both is obvious too. We could reuse Whistler (and the artwork @Matt A. Tobin et al. came up with for that name) for Interlink, and stick with Freestyle and Moebius for Serpent 52 and 55, respectively. First, folks were complaining about the lack of choices. But now, a poll would probably look something like this:

  6. Your on the right track with DXdiag just press Test DirectSound and then once done that go to music and test DirectMusic using the various ports that are shown. Your motherboard and mine are similar and use the same audio chip. MSI are good for supplying drivers and if you download audio driver for win2000 it will be A3.99 which should work if you have not installed a later RealTek driver. ALC***.sys refers to ALCWDM.sys where as yours is CMUDA.sys because you are using a CMedia driver. CMI; I should have showed CM1 on the sound chip and means CMedia chip but yours is ALC655 the same as mine. Choose Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth. SW is short for soft ware check the about tab and it will say Roland. I have downloaded the Settlers 2 demo and the audio is easy to configure. There is no need for any SB audio cards as most later audio is sound blaster compatible. Open Drivers folder in the game directory and click on SetSound.exe. It will ask to select and configure MIDI music driver, click on this in the blue section and select Roland MT-32 Midi with MPU-401 Midi interface because you have selected Microsoft WaveTable GS Synthesizer. Then select and configure digital audio driver in the blue section. Choose Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro or 100% compatible, as your sound driver should be. Then select done at bottom. There should be now two new files in the Driver folder MDI.ini and DIG.ini. The game sounds should now work. Many Dos games of this age will configure similar, 1997.

  7. @3dreal: There's often some offtopic stuff in roytam's topic here, but this prob of yours is getting so very long now, LOTS of posts about a completely different subject, please consider making an own topic for it! And no need to google about safebrowsing, it's all just directly in this very topic already: on this page and the 2 previous ones, you definitely have just read it, so your confusing starts getting slightly weird... What safebrowsing is about, by VistaLover: https://msfn.org/board/topic/180462-my-browser-builds-part-2/?do=findComment&comment=1175789 And Kitaro's screenshot with the prefs, you even quoted this image yourself just 5 hours ago! https://msfn.org/board/topic/180462-my-browser-builds-part-2/?do=findComment&comment=1175859 By default safebrowsing is OFF anyway, but just in case, open about:config and in the filter line type "safebrowsing". Check that everything is set to "false".

  8. New build of post-deprecated Serpent/moebius for XP! * Notice: This repo will not be built on regular schedule, and changes are experimental as usual. ** Current moebius patch level should be on par with 52.9, but some security patches can not be applied/ported due to source milestone differences between versions. 9. uBlock0-legacy 1.16.4.13 has just been released: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/firefox-legacy-1.16.4.13 Once again, we have to thank Ukrainian developer @JustOff ( ), who is part of the MCP devs team (though not inside Moonchild's immediate circle...): https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/commit/0f3c467 If you prefer to let his extension, uB0-updater, do the update for you, make sure it's in its latest version, 1.6.8

  10. To anyone who may read this post, Retrozilla does support AES-GCM cipher suites, but you need to enable them through about:config. search "security.ssl3" then create a new Boolean "security.ssl3.ecdhe_ecdsa_aes_128_gcm_sha256" and "security.ssl3.ecdhe_rsa_aes_128_gcm_sha256". Retrozilla works very well, and I'm excited for the next version (especially a 3.0 release).

  11. For what it may or may not be worth I can confirm that the notification does not appear in Windows Server 2008 when Microsoft Security Essentials is installed and updated.
