  2. Well, I really don't know, but presumably win32ss does! Surely the current ESR version has to be patched until it's superseded, if it's vulnerable, or there's no point in having it. That is 132 as far as I'm aware.

  4. For more recent androids it is probably better to disable them rather than try to uninstall, which might not even be possible anymore. At least if something goes wrong it is easy enough to re-enable them if needed. Microsoft never seems to pass up the opportunity to push a new incompatible prorietary (non)standard. They are the ones that made the Windows implementations so horribly useless. They could have just made it a slightly modified (to deal with Android file system interfaces) version of an explorer window - but noooo, they had to insert Media Player into the middle of what should be a simple copy-paste function, with no filtering needed or wanted. Yup. . . if Google can't force you to do this, how are they going to be able to snoop through all your files and build their advertising profile on you? It might have made more sense if they did not make it so difficult to choose a cloud server that YOU own or control. (There are apps for this on both android and windows sides so it is possible to roll your own at home if you want to.) And yeah, if you are going to bother uploading it anywhere, the logical place would be directly to your own computer, which is where you were going to use the stuff anyway, and save the extra step of getting it back down from the cloud. But then they would not have access to your files, right? That sounds gawdawful slow for modern wifi, are you sure you are not being artificially rate limited by that foobar2000 app? Or a setting in your router that needs adjusting? I know https://f-droid.org/packages/com.ghostsq.commander/ is supposed to handle SMB and (S)FTP, maybe that would be faster? On the PC side I used to use FileZilla almost 20 years ago, don't know if its current version might be faster. Others (I have not tried these): https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.primftpd/ https://f-droid.org/packages/be.ppareit.swiftp_free/ https://f-droid.org/packages/de.qwerty287.ftpclient/ https://android.izzysoft.de/repo/apk/com.github.ghmxr.ftpshare Depending on your habits, that might fill up faster than you'd like, making an SD card useful to have more space. I don't use that particular app so can't be sure why it does that. Have you tried granting that permission despite not having the card? You can go through android settings to change it back later if you change your mind or it does not help. Supposedly the phone is micro SDXC capable (according to phonedb.net), so look for that marking on the packaging to get the best transfer speeds and highest capacity. Within that labelling, also look at the stated transfer speeds since newer generation products will be a bit faster than older stock. I don't know what capacity card your phone can handle, is there anything about SD cards in the owner manual or other documentation that came with the phone? I did find that both https://www.coolblue.nl/en/product/961028/redmi-14c-128gb-blue-4g.html and https://www.ldlc.com/en/product/PB00645657.html claim it can take a 1TB size card, though I'm not completely sure those pages match your phone. I don't know what is in stores where you live. But personally, I like things that come with a "lifetime warranty". I have half a dozen of these 256GB (the max for my relatively old androids) in various devices for 7-8 years, zero issues so far, would buy more if I needed similar sizes: https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/memory-cards/evo-select-adapter-microsdxc-256gb-mb-me256sa-am/ even web ordering rather than going to local stores (most stores near me do not have this in the larger sizes anyway, and charge much higher prices for what they do have) just because of the warranty.
  5. I want to change my username to: Typical
  6. I notice that the volume on the built in speaker on my Xiomi Redmi 14C is noticeably jerky. I do realize that the sound of the speaker can only be crap. But the volume jumps make it unnecessarily worse. It sounds like a crude expander is active. Not a compressor, but an expander. When a voice (or voice-like frequencies) comes into the foreground, the loudness rapidly increases and falls back down. This also happens in ringtones. My old Samsung phone doesn't do this. For example, the song by 4 Non Blondes "What's Up" sounds like this, capital letters representing louder sound. when I'm lying in bEd just to get IT All Out what's in my head, and I, I'm feeling a little peculiar. and so i wake in the mORNing and I step outside, i take a deep breath and i get real high, and i scream from the top of my lungs: what's goinG ON. and I sAy hey-YEAH-YEAH-YEhe hey-yEAH-yeah. i said HEY, what's goINg ON. Is this a helpful setting that can be tweaked?
  7. WinPE reassigns all volume letters based on the order in which the volumes are enumerated. Typically it goes in ascending order from Volume 0, but there are some instances (on real hardware) where a volume (or disk) is not made available at the same time every time and those letters can change. Because of this, I usually recommend that only the disk that is meant to be imaged (or worked) is connected when booting to WinPE.
  8. My Winpeshl consists of Startnet.cmd dopartition.bat Apply-win.bat Make-Dir.bat %systemdrive% \sources\setup.exe Question 1 Do the quotes in : %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Windows\System32\diskpart.exe, /s %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Windows\System32\diskpart.txt go around "/s %systemdrive....." or just the "%Systemdrive....at the end?Pa Question 2 Can I use Partition letter "A" in the partitions.txt file. Or is that only for the disk drive [Which I don't have one]? Question 3: I only used Disk letters : C,A,T,U,D but when it Runs Windows in VMWare Workstation `17.6.2 It has completely different letter C,D,E,F,G Why? TIA
  9. Because the previous exploit patch was also intended for a much higher core version, Namely, 138+.
  10. For now I'll use FTP. I find the phone hard to use with a short cable attached, and it plugs in from below not the top. I also don't know enough to try to uninstall uneeded system apps, which might break things. I'm glad to see FTP is still around, and nothing as portable has replaced it. FTP "sucks" a bit when transferring many small files. Foobar2000 (for mobile) also has an FTP server and client, and they work really well including seeking with partial downloads. The internal free flash memory of about 90 GB is not so much to upload lots of data fast. Rather than inventing MTP, they could have used existing standards like FTP, SFTP or Microsoft's SMB. Maybe we're supposed to rely on a "Cloud". I find quite silly to upload files to a Cloud, only to pull them down again on the computer. For some reason, my wi-fi download speed (router to phone) is limited to about 20 Mbit/s. But if I want to send occasional photos about 4 MB a piece, or a ringtone, that is ok. WiFi FTP Server usually throws an error asking for a permission to access SD card, which I don't have. It seems that I might need to get an SD card to give that permission. Would any currently available card work?
  11. @Cixert did you try files with Win2000 with Extended Core and Kernel? It works with NVMe GPT disk connected with PCIe adapter (when booting from another IDE MBR SSD). It can see partitions but they don't have drive letter. But I cannot boot from NVMe GPT disk, it gives 0x7B BSOD. Srv2003 disk.sys and partmgr.sys also give 0x7B BSOD. XP 32 bit and 64 bit boot from NVMe GPT disk normally with their own disk.sys and partmgr.sys (of course 32-bit is from srv2003). Note: IDE SSD and NVMe SSD are smaller than 2 TB.

  13. @Uiti P. Uszer Open-Shell barely uses any cpu/ram, you can keep using both w/out problems, I do too. Let dev focus on adding new functions and fixing bugs rather than enabling what exist already.
  14. I second this. I use Open Shell to get to old style meny (see screenshot from Windows 10) and on Windows 11 I now have to use both StartAllBack and OpenShell.
  15. Feature Request: Could you please add a Classic (Win 2K, 9x style) Start Menu theme, like Open Shell has. Or can anyone link to a 3rd party Classic Start Menu theme for SAB?
  16. Link is in this post from @cmalex. My current `C:\Python39` folder with the needed site-packages for building yt-dlp here.
  17. Btw where did you get 3.9 from? I remember the XP Python thread was mainly 3.8 and there is a 3.9 build there, but I heard it was buggy and unstable.
  18. Hi nicolaasjan, I tried to download this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGPeK8gO0Eo on Win XP SP2 with your yt-dlp Python 3.11 build from https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/scl/fi/2ajuzjxmmbwqk888dj9hg/test_Py3.11_XP_yt-dlp.zip?rlkey=ro7rfvve4ueuavheq30ddvhu6 And I can confirm the same error you got: "Unable to download API page, Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno 0] Error"
  19. Does anyone know a good modern PDF editor for Windows XP? Even on Windows 7, I cannot stand adobe acrobat- it's so bloated and slow.
  20. Yikes. No wonder I don't find such references in StartAllBack's translation file; Microsoft's translations (especially of Simplified Chinese) is extremely horrendous. 🤦
  21. At the moment my youtube-dl fork still works with YouTube.
  22. I tried some updates from 2015-2020, they all increased the system brightness. The same happens with Vista. Namely, the culprit of excessive brightness is SHA-2 2015 (normal update) and PosReady, too. windows6.1-kb3072630-x64_d5130670d4c9ce8618180fa8f2ce40401b9ca7e4
  23. Fascinating article! I'd also be interested to how to make a very slim image without the original telemetry that was there in 2009 already.
  24. For my Py3.9 build on XP no version of PyInstaller after 5.13.2 works. So, I do: python -m pip install -U "setuptools>=71.0.2,<81" pip wheel pip install -U pyinstaller==5.13.2 -r requirements.txt Where `requirements.txt` is: mutagen pycryptodomex brotli; implementation_name=='cpython' certifi requests>=2.32.2,<3 urllib3>=1.26.17,<3 websockets>=13.0 O, that is the debug (--verbose) mode of yt-dlp itself.
  26. Yes, I'm sure there might still be some things hanging around. However, I had never gone after any Windows 7 telemetry in my setup. I was looking for an easy way to get rid of whatever I could since I did not want to spend a lot of time hunting each item down from a list. So the 'script removal' tool and Blackbird looked OK to me to start with. I ran Blackbird without removing anything and was amazed at what was found ... so I ran it again letting it remove everything and also ran the script download in case it found anything additional. Hopefully I have a better system now but as you mentioned there are probably some items still there. With Windows 7 no longer getting updates I guess in one way is good since no new telemetry will be installed. Not sure about Windows 10 and 11. Probably Blackbird and other telemetry tools will have to be run again with any downloads from M$. ...
  27. Were you wanting to try the ADB drivers, or is the wifi ftp server going to cover it?
  28. Last week
  29. We seem to have drifted off topic a bit here. IIRC, the thread was originally about Micro$oft Copilot invading our privacy on PCs running Windows 11. I haven't even tried to use Copilot for anything, but for those of us forced to use Windows 11 at work, is there any way to avoid or block this BS?
