It Seems a Lot Like Dead Internet Has Actually Come True "Agentic AI activity is driving a lot of the browser activity you're seeing." By Frank Landymore Published Jul 28, 2026 https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/dead-internet-theory-come-true The infamous dead internet theory was originally a conspiracy that posited that the vast majority of the internet was run by bots and thinking machines. Most accounts you saw online were really bots masquerading as people - all part of some nefarious scheme to control humankind by keeping us isolated and divided. That last part is far-fetched, but the core of the idea - that bots outnumber humans online - is inexorably starting to feel weirdly grounded. Fortune did a roundup of the latest data on the makeup of internet traffic, and most of it points to humans now being a quaint minority. "There’s a lot of missing pieces of information, but a lot of the observed data suggests the same thing, which is like there is more bot activity," Rudy Yang, a financial tech analyst at Pitchbook, told Fortune. "Agentic AI activity is driving a lot of the browser activity you’re seeing." This should come as no surprise. Bots have been everywhere on social media for a while now, and more and more people are wielding little posses of AI agents to do stuff on the internet on their behalf, ranging from conducting research to shopping. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman infamously said he was worried that the dead internet theory was coming true last year, seemingly without a shred of self-awareness. Further corroborating this new paradigm, Cloudflare announced in June that 57 percent of webpage requests were being made by bots, marking the first time that bots made up the majority by its own metrics. Bots have long been ubiquitous, but AI agents are doing the most to reshape the web. One report from the cybersecurity firm HUMAN found that traffic generated by AI agents surged by 7,851 percent year over year, Fortune noted. All those AI agents aren’t generating ad impressions, which is how a lot of websites keep the lights on, while putting a strain on those websites’ servers. "They consume the web completely differently than humans do," Yang told Fortune. "It’s almost like an entire new category, customer category, was created, and it means a lot for businesses because no one, as a business owner, is going to want to silo themselves from being able to serve a completely new customer segment." They’re also changing what we see on the web, too. A report published in October from the SEO firm Graphite found that over half of all new English-language articles on the internet were written with AI. It hasn’t helped that Google, the internet’s de facto steward, has made a hard pivot towards making the internet less navigable by humans. Now, the focus is on having a chatbot to dredge up answers, instead of providing a list of links to websites they’d find in its search engine.

I wrote that there is no portable one, but of course I immediately unpacked ungoogled-chromium_150.0.7871.46-1.1_installer_x86.exe - unfortunately, web watsap does not work even with this version of chrome... so... supermium for web whatsup, . [and serpent55/mypal68 for xp; that's all]

OK, I have now tried it on my netbook, using Supermium 144. I'm sure my desktop at home will be the same. It seems to work for me. I opened my image viewer (xnview classic), opened an image, right clicked and selected 'copy'. I then opened this reply, right-clicked, and selected 'paste'. The image appeared as an attachment and was inserted into the post. The keyboard shortcuts also worked. So, I don't know why it's not working for you I'm afraid. This is off-topic here of course, perhaps if you can't resolve it you could report it in the site issues section.

It is not the restriction or profile storage space. It's the "editor" that MSFN uses. It **CHANGED** recently. Ever since the time span where xper had to manually delete "fake profiles" and whatever else was done at the time. In this "editor" that I type this very message in, you **USED TO** be able to **PASTE** a screencap from the OS's "clipboard". You **USED TO** be able to **PASTE** jpg/bmp/etc just by TYPING in this "editor" box and doing a "ctrl-v" from *ANY* image editor whereupon the "ctrl-c" was done from within that image editor. NOW, the *only* way to post images is to use a hosting service or link to an image via "Other Media". It didn't *USED TO* be that way, we could just PASTE into the "reply editor".

I don't know. I've always just browsed for my image files, added them to the attachments on the post, and inserted them into the post. You should be able to drag and drop too, but I've never tried pasting directly from the clipboard. I'm not at home at the moment, but I will try it when I get back to my desktop machine again. I know some members have restrictions on the number of attachments they can store, maybe you need to delete some old ones. I can't remember what the restriction is, and I don't now have one as I'm a moderator. 😁

Technically, *ALL* Chrome/Chromium browsers can be made PORTABLE. Just use a "loader" or "Chrome++". And *never* (my opinion!) use any "installer". None needed. Just use 7Zip (or similar) to extract the contents of mini_installer.exe for 32bit or min_installer_x64.exe for 64bit. Same goes for the ungoogled versions, just extract using 7Zip (or similar). Chrome++ is found here: https://github.com/Bush2021/chrome_plus/releases (I use v1.11.1 because of preference on older method for [RunAfter] not popping up a visible command prompt). Most importanly, *ALL* versions of Chrome/Chromium and *ALL* of their forks **ARE** portable - you just have to extract them and use with your preferred "loader method".

No, pasting into the reply editor NO LONGER WORKS. It used to. For many years. Just paste the contents of a "print screen" or clipboard directly into the reply editor. It no longer works, *forcing* us to use "file hosting service BS" instead.

I just found out that PowerToys' Always On Top module causes that bug, when running PowerToys as administrator.

Not as far as I know. An image is an image, and I can't imagine that the forum software has any way of telling if something is a screencap. It looks like you managed to do it in your subsequent post, so it was probably a temporary glitch. We're having a lot of problems with bots at the moment apparently, which is why the forum has been a bit flakey recently.

The tool I have been using for decades is Norton Ghost in version 2003 for very old disks with standard MBR ( no GPT, EFI or UEFI) and a more recent version 15.0 for a bit newer disks like SSDs. This is a programme that has always allowed me to clone my computers perfectly, without anything failing or going wrong. For modern computers, you’ll probably have to resort to Acronis, Macrium or Aomei if GPT with EFI/UEFI is in use. And to clone other partitions directly from my Windows XP, I have been using an older version of DiskGenius – a very good partition manager – successfully for years.
