Experimenting with GPT and Hard Disks >2TB under WinXP
user57 replied to Multibooter's topic in Windows XP
did you make the capacity test ? https://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-verify-sd-card-capacity-on-windows -
so it was on a ethernet cable or parallel "printer" cable? maybe the printer has a bad usb performance, are patched files involved (the PAE 128 GB extender has other usb drivers for example from vista) therefore you should repeat that usb performance test with a different OS, but maybe the same hardware of the computer

SoftGPU - successor to VBEMP with 2d/3d (software) acceleration
the solutor replied to pangoomis's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Ok but you mentioned VMware 8, I didn't dream about it. About real HW, I guess it all depends on the vesa implementation in the BIOS. Perhaps the author of SoftGPU seem vanished since July or so, I hope he is well. -
I assume your HP Laserjet 2420 is a black and white printer of the the year 2004. I have a color Laserjet 2605 of the year 2006 and have used it also via IP. Fiddling around with it is very time-consuming. Suggestions and thoughts, maybe they help: - reinstall the printer driver + create a NEW printer icon in Printers and Faxes - installing the older driver from the original driver CD had worked for me, but not a more recent driver downloaded from HP - I started to install the driver from the CD WITHOUT the printer connected during the installation a window came up: "Connection Type" -> Directly using a USB cable then a window came up "Connect your device Now -> power on the printer -> connect the USB cable - IEEE 1284 is Centronics [=slow parallel], the USB printer icon created for my HP2605 was originally named "HP Color Laser Jet 2605dn_2605dtn PCL6"

I don't want to use it in a virtual machine, but on a real PC with a Haswell iGPU. -
@Darth Agnon I used dotexe build and it worked quite well. Today i was looking for a newer Version and discovered that dotexe's github account with the vxkex versions was deleted. Do you happen to know what's going on?

You need at least VMware 15.x.x or VBox 7.xx to use the driver at its best, older versions may work or not with progressive lack of functionality -

Obviously is MY mode of doing things and not Mikey Mouse's one, and my mode told me that the 2D VGA support was good enough in VMware since when I rewiewed it in august 2000, I generally care relatively little of VBox that has been always behind and only recently started to be usable (especially on Linux hosts). Perhaps it's called SoftGPU and not SoftVGA for a reason. 3D is the focus, then if it's brings 2D advantages as a byproduct they are welcome. Assuming that talking of 2D only makes sense today like it did in '98, given a lot of modern "2D" features are really rendered as a flat 3D surfaces (the optput settings of MPC-HC exposes a real world example of that) -
Well, it has come back again here ; I have to re-launch yt-dlp several times repeatedly to have the "tv_client" streams appear; most of the time, I simply get: WARNING: [youtube] ero26lcWXjo: Some tv client https formats have been skipped as they are missing a url. YouTube may have enabled the SABR-only or Server-Side Ad Placement experiment for the current session. See https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/12482 for more details WARNING: [youtube] ero26lcWXjo: Some web_safari client https formats have been skipped as they are missing a url. Only have mod drivers, and it needs kmdf1.15, so need to port the wdf0100.sys driver from win10 1507, than mod the realtek win10 driver.

And if it were me, I would use the OLDEST XP driver-only that I could find. Yes, the OLDEST. Or at the very least, go by FILE SIZE and use the SMALLEST.

Not sure if this is going to help you or not but since it is related, I'll offer what I do know. My HP all-in-one (color printer, scanner, copier) is the PSC 1610. I've never used it via ethernet (unsure if it is even capable). It's always been via USB. I do know/recall that my XP setup did NOT use the HP "software" but the DRIVER ONLY. And I had to install that driver with the printer TURNED *OFF*. Then turned the printer on only after the driver was installed and the driver installation only continued after that first turn-on of the printer. Unsure if that helps. All I can suggest is to make sure you use the DRIVER ONLY from the HP support web site.

Check your Windows installation then and get BOOTLOG.TXT for the usual first step of course. And may be it is Windows 95 related problem. The last working case I checked - iGPU on Intel Core Gen 8. -
Hi, im trying to upgrade upgrade Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my laptop on GPT disk, but even i run installer upgrade option with keeping installed programs is not available, only keep files,. Im running upgrade from running OS. I read that problem could be with languages, i checked registry there is InstallLanguage key - 0409 - which should be US english, so i tried US english and Internal English ISO, no luck. There is also some key cooled previousInstalled language which has value 0405 (czech), im not really sure if originaly installed OS in Czech, or it was upgraded from Czech Vista, I have tried to change value from 0405 to 0409, but no luck.. So i tired Czech Windows 10 ISO again no luck. Maybe i need to delete that Previous install key. I also installed other WIndows 7 OS on same disk which i want to keep and clean Windows 10, they also Linux partition and some Dell support parttions - backup, i hope that are not conflicts.

Both 2D (vmdisp9x-1.2025.0.119b-driver-2d) and 3D (vmdisp9x-1.2025.0.119b-driver-3d-win95-min) versions cause Windows Protection Error on VMware Workstation 8 and on real iGPU Haswell -

It is only YOUR model of using this software. Bare 2D vmdisp9x in VESA mode now works better than VBEMP on the real hardware for example. Not ideally of course, some bugs exist still. -

Sure, but the whole point of using softgpu is to have a working 3D, if you scratch that there is little point using it over the native VMware driver or VBEMP in VBox -
Asp started following Very, very slow printing with HP LJ on USB

I've been using HP Laserjets for many years now. Currently a HP 2420. Connected to my XP PC first by parallel port. Later, with a network model, went to ethernet, making it available to laptops and phones. All worked pretty smoothly. A few months ago, my desk router died. That took the ethernet from the wall socket to the main router and connected my PC and the printer, gave each a local IP.. So I connected the PC directly to the wall socket but now had no port for the printer, so I got a USB cable and plugged it in to the PC. It detected the printer and I installed the drivers. "Printers" shows it connected to "DOT4_001" port, "Generic IEEE 1284.4 Printing Support". Previously, by ethernet or parallel, sending a simple print job took maybe 2 seconds, and it would start printing after another 2 seconds. With USB, I see on its panel "Receiving data" then "Processing data" then ":Receiving data", "Processing data".... seemingly endlessly. I stopped and restarted both PC and printer several times. Eventually I tried again and let it go, it took two minutes then it finally started printing. The page was perfect. I will replace the router, but in the meantime, why is USB so slow, what is going on? Port settings? Tried different USB sockets on the PC, both USB2 and USB3, no change.

it hits a "MOZ_CRASH(IPC FatalError in the parent process!)" intended crash with message "IPDL error [PContentParent]: Error deserializing 'Principal'". maybe the RefCnt knock out value is too low, tried to enlarge it a bit: https://github.com/roytam1/UXP/commit/9ad9a88955775ce04f7bd070e09ddc31c7868a3f -
This may be of some use for Win XP users in today's world with Win XP being phased out more everyday ... this service is also listed to work with Windows 98 SE / ME also. I used it about 6 years ago myself and now am being forced to use it again in Oct 2025 to be able to get my Win XP computer on the internet with a VPN. The paid service I was using has finally cut off all Win XP connections. They warned two years ago it was coming and the service still works for my Windows 7 computer but I still mostly use my Win XP computer for everyday connecting. As I said above ... I used this free VPN about 6 years ago and I have hooked the XP computer up to the service again. I will say that they have really improved things and the service is great in 2025. Perhaps some of you know about it already but if not ... then you can check it out if you need a VPN for Win XP. https://www.vpngate.net/en/ https://www.vpngate.net/en/download.aspx VPN Gate - Public Free VPN Cloud by Univ of Tsukuba, Japan Welcome to VPN Gate. You will figure all this out as you get familiar with the service. ...
