TechZ Posted October 7, 2003 Posted October 7, 2003 anyone know a page that contains the entire list of updates?
DMX Posted October 7, 2003 Posted October 7, 2003 maybe someone can tell me which of the following hotfixes is neededthanks in advanceQ328145Q329256Q329692Q331953Q814995Q818857Q822925VM-SFIX3and about the Q823718 - Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components microsoft suggests the following switch for an unattended installation /C:"dahotfix.exe /q /n" /q, can it be used in the svcpack.ini?
The Saint Posted October 7, 2003 Posted October 7, 2003 Is the Windows Rollout out yet....?This would resolve every problem I`m having!
Marztabator Posted October 8, 2003 Posted October 8, 2003 I was taking a look at your D/Lable svcpack.inf, Aaron, and noticed you gave "Q"s to the KB patches as well. But aren't you meant to install the Q ones first, *then* the KBs? I'm thinking about whether to shorten the KB ones to an 8.3 filename that includes KB still.
Ghost Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 How you all goin? Just wanted to know if it would be alright to request dates be attached to the hot fixes if its ok
Aaron Posted October 9, 2003 Author Posted October 9, 2003 Sure, I'll wait until the SRP is out before applying dates to future hotfixes, because the SRP makes 90% of critical updates on that list redundant

There's no issues from using Qxxxxxx.exe instead. Also if you list your hotfixes in numerical order, its likely all the new KB named ones will be last on the list.
DaveXP Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 This thred is a great time saver thanks AaronXP

Actually, to be more precise, the KB ones will be listed last in alphabetical order in their original file names, yet will be first if you rename them to the 8.3 format. Should I install them in numerical order, no matter what letter rank they are, or should it be Q ones first then the KBs afterwards?

Should I install them in numerical order, no matter what letter rank they are, or should it be Q ones first then the KBs afterwards?First off, this is an invaluable resource. I am a Tech Support specialist for over 300 computers. We are moving towards 2000 and finally XP, so I can always use tips and pointers to save time.In the same vein, I went to the Windows Update Catalog, downloaded all critical updates locally to my computer and am starting to construct the "SVCPACK.INF". It constructed a file directory tree that has patches for Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6E:\WU\Software\en\com_microsoft.internetexplorer6x\x86WinXPandE:\WU\Software\en\com_microsoft.windowsxp\x86WinXPI am preparing to copy them to the \I386\SVCPACK directory and rename them but have a few questionsMy 2 questions are as follows: 1. I have located several files that do not qualify in the format Qxxxxxx.exe or can be easily renamed as such. For instance,DirectX9-KB819696-x86-ENU.exeWindowsMedia8-KB817787-x86-ENU.exeWindowsMedia9-KB819639-x86-ENU.exeNDP10_SP_Q321884_En.exeCan these be renamed to the format Qxxxxxx.exe or KBxxxxxx.exe?2 How do I install the following files?msjavwu.exevbs56nen.exeI noticed in the downloadable SVCPACK.INF you had JS56NEN.EXE /Q:A /R:NHow did you determine the appropriate switches for that hotfix?I feel like I'm 80% there, but just need a few pointers to be fully prepared to create a CD that is Windows XP sp1 + slipstream pre-sp2 hotfixes.thanks for all your help.mzwarg
mzwarg Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 I also noticed 2 patches for DirectX based on MS Security Bulletin MS03-030Both are referenced in article q819696.Windows update catalog downloaded 2 versions of the patch. One, with file name "Q819696.exe", is version 6.0.2600.0The other, file name "Q819696_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe", is version 5.3.18.1It could be just different versions of the hotfix extractor, but I'm not taking a chance. I will use the one with the latest version.Any thoughts?mzwarg
Aaron Posted October 10, 2003 Author Posted October 10, 2003 DirectX9-KB819696-x86-ENU.exe = Q819696.exe or KB819696.exeWindowsMedia8-KB817787-x86-ENU.exe = Q817787.exe or KB817787.exe (not to be run from svcpack)WindowsMedia9-KB819639-x86-ENU.exe = Q819639.exe or KB819639.exeNDP10_SP_Q321884_En.exe = Q321884.exeIf msjavwu.exe and vbs56nen.exe are coloured icons, its most likely to work with /Q:A /R:N. If in doubt, run a /? on them.As for the DirectX patch, its better to visit the knowledge base article on 819696, and get the correct download link from there.

Marztabator Posted October 11, 2003 Posted October 11, 2003 So, judging by how practically everyone does it, I should install them in numerical order and not letter rank order???
