  1. I am working with a Windows XP Service Pack 1a installation with Update Rollup 1 slipstreamed in. I am also installing DirectX 9.0b and Windows Media Player 9 So, if I were to integrate the latest KB into my svcpack.inf, would it look like this: (notice the addition of q810217) [Version] Signature="$Windows NT$" MajorVersion=5 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=2600 [SetupData] CatalogSubDir="\i386\Update" [ProductCatalogsToInstall] KB826939.cat [SetupHotfixesToRun] update.exe -q -n Q330994.exe /Q:A /R:N JS56NEN.exe /Q:A /R:N Q810217.exe /Q /U /N /Z Q823182.exe /Q /U /N /Z Q824105.exe /Q /U /N /Z Q824141.exe /Q /U /N /Z Q825119.exe /Q /U /N /Z Q828035.exe /Q /U /N /Z Q824145.exe /Q:A /R:N DX9NTopk.exe WMP9.exe /Q:A /R:N Q828026.exe /Q /U /N /Z qchain.exe
  2. Here is a link to 810217, direct from MS. Download 810217 -mzwarg
  3. Can anyone comment on a KB 810217? Here is the link to the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810217 I finally got my Unattended WinXP, SP1a CD to work, with applications installed. Then I ran Windows Update to double check my work. Suddenly, this Critical Update appeared. I thought, what gives? How come it wasn't mentioned in the this thread? Here is the title of the KB article FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions for Windows 2000 or Windows XP November 2003 Security Patch Apparently, the Frontpage 2000 Server extensions ship with Windows XP (as per the Security Bulletin). If this was released on Nov 11, 2003, did we miss it or did it take MS a few weeks to make sure it was available via Windows Update? Here is the link to the MS Security Bulletin http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...in/MS03-051.asp What does this fix? How necessary is it? When was it released? Sorry, but all I got is questions, but I figured someone in this community has an answer or two. -mzwarg
  4. I noticed another little error in the Hotfixes tutorial. In the section to edit DOSNET.inf in the i386 directory, the guide states "..beneath all the values in [Directory]: " Well, I didn't see a section labeled that explicitly. I found one named [Directories] Is that where they suggest adding the following lines? [OptionalSrcDirs] svcpack I found a post on a web board regarding this issue which I think is relevant. http://www.mail-archive.com/unattended-inf...t/msg00514.html MS's WinXP Hotfix Installation and Deployment Guide suggests adding the entries to the end of the file. http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/dow...p1/hfdeploy.asp So, judging from this information, it doesn't matter where the entires are entered into the DOSNET.INF file, because the whole file is parsed during the Setup phase anyways. Would that be a fair assessment? -mzwarg
  5. I also noticed 2 patches for DirectX based on MS Security Bulletin MS03-030 Both are referenced in article q819696. Windows update catalog downloaded 2 versions of the patch. One, with file name "Q819696.exe", is version 6.0.2600.0 The other, file name "Q819696_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe", is version 5.3.18.1 It could be just different versions of the hotfix extractor, but I'm not taking a chance. I will use the one with the latest version. Any thoughts? mzwarg
  6. You can do it that way if you want. There's no issues from using Qxxxxxx.exe instead. Also if you list your hotfixes in numerical order, its likely all the new KB named ones will be last on the list. Actually, to be more precise, the KB ones will be listed last in alphabetical order in their original file names, yet will be first if you rename them to the 8.3 format. Should I install them in numerical order, no matter what letter rank they are, or should it be Q ones first then the KBs afterwards? First off, this is an invaluable resource. I am a Tech Support specialist for over 300 computers. We are moving towards 2000 and finally XP, so I can always use tips and pointers to save time. In the same vein, I went to the Windows Update Catalog, downloaded all critical updates locally to my computer and am starting to construct the "SVCPACK.INF". It constructed a file directory tree that has patches for Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6 E:\WU\Software\en\com_microsoft.internetexplorer6x\x86WinXP and E:\WU\Software\en\com_microsoft.windowsxp\x86WinXP I am preparing to copy them to the \I386\SVCPACK directory and rename them but have a few questions My 2 questions are as follows: 1. I have located several files that do not qualify in the format Qxxxxxx.exe or can be easily renamed as such. For instance, DirectX9-KB819696-x86-ENU.exe WindowsMedia8-KB817787-x86-ENU.exe WindowsMedia9-KB819639-x86-ENU.exe NDP10_SP_Q321884_En.exe Can these be renamed to the format Qxxxxxx.exe or KBxxxxxx.exe? 2 How do I install the following files? msjavwu.exe vbs56nen.exe I noticed in the downloadable SVCPACK.INF you had JS56NEN.EXE /Q:A /R:N How did you determine the appropriate switches for that hotfix? I feel like I'm 80% there, but just need a few pointers to be fully prepared to create a CD that is Windows XP sp1 + slipstream pre-sp2 hotfixes. thanks for all your help. mzwarg
