BigDaddy Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Latest MSN is just too bloated and slow. So am looking for an alternative MSN Messenger.Which alternative do U recommend'Heard GAIM was OK. What do thing?
wizardofwindows Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 miranda is ligher than most guys girlfriend i try this one out.
BigDaddy Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 but BUGED like s***. Recived so many crashes with her that I can't even count
Zxian Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 The base Miranda is pretty stable. It's all the plugins that cause it to crash a lot... You can just use the A-patch to remove all the crap from MSN. Gaim is a pretty good alternative. Not really meant for Windows, but it works. Trillian is another possibility, but the fact that it doesn't use standard Windows just p***es me off...
BigDaddy Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 what about Easy Message?Latest version is dated 2004?btw. My MSN 7 on WIn2k just sitting with no contacting talking to takes 8MB RAM and 16MB SWAP.Now that's to much for my poor laptop
Jeremy Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 I guess it's a love/hate relationship with any IM client. I use Trillian. I edited the config so it starts up instantly and disabled everything but the MSN plugin.
oofki Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I've used gaim since the original version for windows. It used to pretty much suck but now it stable and supports a lot of clients in one IM window. I recommend it!
SiMoNsAyS Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 gaim is my default IM client 3 accounts at the same time with less requirements than msngr7 and many more functions ...
Lightbringer- Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I've always been bugged about how my messenger hogs upto 16MB of ram....but I see the interface prety cool ^_^...maybe triallian is a better alternative!?
Scubar Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 ive found that Trillian and IM2 seem to work the best for me.
Jeremy Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 If Skype supported MSN, I'd switch to that. Some things about Trillian really bug me now.
DigeratiPrime Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 portable gaimhttp://johnhaller.com/jh/useful_stuff/portable_gaim/
amgeex Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Dude, portable gaim sucks 20MB of ram!!! Is this normal?
Gouki Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 (edited) I am also using the lastest Miranda Build.Disabled and deleted everything except MSN. I now have a LITE IM with under 1Mb of disk space taken. However, Im thinking of adding a few plugins. That thing is REALLY REALLY lite! Edited December 25, 2005 by Gouki
