The title of the poll was (is) "Spyware Blocker" and AdAware is in the poll.

However, AdAware SE/Personal is NOT a spyware blocker.

Sybot S&D IS a spyware blocker and Spyware Blaster IS a blocker.

And a darn'd good one I might add.

AdAware is however a very good Spyware finder and remover.(but not a blocker).

Just a thought,

The best is a mixture of all.... goto http://www.hitmanpro.nl and d/l hitmanpro. It uses 5 spyware scan engines and the command line version of mcafee and trendmicro and several other components. It's only caveat is that is doesn't fully run unattended in safe mode, (which is the most effective way of malware removal). It does use a trial version of webroot, however.

After testing many different Anti-Spyware programs and even buying a few in the process, I've come to the only logical conclusion.......

that is, that there is NO one program that does the whole job.

Like it takes many different tradesmen to build a house,,,,it takes several different Anti-Spyware programs to clean up and then keep-clean any computer.

So, anyone trusting just one program,,,,ANY one program is headed for a disaster.

Every week, I find hundreds of pieces of spyware on computers that have only one Anti-Spyware program installed. :(

On my own computer, I use these:

AdAware SE/Personal

Spybot S&D

Spyware Blaster

MS Anti-Spy

Trojan Hunter

and,,,,,AVG 7 FREE for my anti-virus protection.

Good Luck,

I only use freeware anti-spyware software as I haven't found a need to buy a commercialy product yet. I use a combination of the MS Beta, Ad-Aware SE, & Spybot Search & Destroy and out of those I'd have to say I like Spybot S&D the best.

  • 4 weeks later...

I find it so laughable that this thread's Question and poll is about a Spyware Blocker.

If I remember correctly, MS Anti-Spy is high on the list, and they aren't even a blocker.

they do however run an active scanner, if you select to let it run as a TSR.

AdAware is a great find'em and kill'em program but only runs when YOU run it and it does NO blocking at all.

Spyware Blaster is the number one blocker,,,,,Spybot's Immunization is a blocker.

All of the above are pretty worthless though, if you don't keep them up to date.

A "Hosts" file is a blocker, but how many users even know about or use a custom Hosts file? Again, it's pretty worthless if not kept up to date.

jus some thoughts and ramblings.

Spybot is good except for that crazy visual error they won't fix.

And just what crazy visual error would that be?

Spybot creates NO errors of any kind on MY computer,,,,visual or otherwise.

Rjz,

I see you're from Leesburg. Very beautiful country.

I attended the Xerox world training center there in the late 70's.

Cheers,

When you click to answer the yss or no program questions the tesxt is always messed up. So far every computer that has the latest version had this. It's also on there forum.

Leesburg is very nice. To bad it's growing to quicxkly. Are you still around?
