Windows Update detects the hotfiexes are already installed ? because WindowsInstall 3.1 is hotfixe@sonic - yes, they are detected as installed and no longer require updating.I dont know what effect this will have on Windows File Protection though.I dont use this feature. I build this CD for my own personal use.I am not concerned with WFP because i dont need to protect the files from myself.for further reference to my method of updating/integrating see this post:Updating my CD source filesShark Edited June 26, 2005 by Shark007
BoardBabe Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 @shark007Didn't work even when I integrated the 5 new files. Just reinstalled windows.
SiMoNsAyS Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 just to confirm: updating wuauclt1.ex_, wuaucpl.cp_, wuaueng.dl_, wuaueng1.dl_, wuauhelp.ch_, wucltui.dl_, wups.dl_, wups2.dl_, wuweb.dl_, cdm.dl_, iuengine.dl_, wuapi.dl_, wuau.ad_, wuauclt.ex_ on i386 over w2k3 sp1 works perfectly.no prompts after going to WUv6
BoardBabe Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 @shark007The weird thing now is that I have 2 instances of Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803) at add/remove programs.I think this happened after I integrated the 5 last .dl_ files, AND also clicked to update to v6 at windows update, as it did not see it was already installed. Any ideas?

In i386\SVCPACK dir I have the following files.KB893803.exeKB893803_wxp.catKB893803v2.exeKB893803v2_wxp.catshould I remove any of those, since I integrated the updated files in i386?The reason why I had the last 5 files uncompressed, was most likely that I had already /integrated the hotfixes above? Shark007 Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 (edited) In i386\SVCPACK dir I have the following files.KB893803.exeKB893803_wxp.catKB893803v2.exeKB893803v2_wxp.cat1st of all, when you run /integrate on a hotfix it will often remove thecompressed file from I386 and replace it with a new uncompressed file.Thats how you got the uncompressed versions in your I386 folder.2ndly, if you're simply copying over compressed files to your I386 dirlike i do, and replacing the existing files, there is no need to have theabove commands in svcpack folder/inf at all.Shark Edited June 27, 2005 by Shark007
BoardBabe Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Yeh, that's kinda what i figured. So I could safely remove all those 4 files and its entries in svcpack.inf ++?

Body Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 (edited) Actually these discussions are refer to 6th version of Windows Update. It has nothing but a new look and an interface. You must try http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdateinstead of just http://update.microsoft.com .This is the real version 6 of Microsoft's Product Updating System. And its new name is "Microsoft Update". It also adds a new icon to your start menu(The old one also connects the new MU site). Its main difference is you can update all of your MS Software(currently Windows,Office and SQL products are supported) at one page simultaneously. It also updates the AU client to receive critical updates of these Office and SQL products. Can some1 grab this MU's site's ActiveX files?Thank You! Edited July 1, 2005 by Body
