Not true.

Yes, one setting was wrong.
But 360chrome does a lot in the background.
Can this be set in Windows XP or 360chrome so that 360chrome does nothing in the background?
Only when the window is active.

You are not fully understanding what "Process Profiling" is and there is a reason that Process Monitor does not enable this by default for non-advanced users.

I had misunderstood, but now it's clear.
It's no longer about profiling, but about file-, internet- and registry- access.
Even if 360chrome is in the background, this takes regularly.

Normal.

So does Ungoogled Chromium, so does Serpent 52, those were the only two I tried before leaving the house.

If you don't want stuff happening in the background, and forgive the Captain Obvious statement, then you must NOT keep things open in the background.

It's that simple.  When you are not "using" a program, CLOSE IT.  :D

I'm pretty certain all browsers run background tasks. It's been a long time since most Web sites were entirely synchronous entities, where you press a button or click a link; the browser does something, shows you the resulting Web page, and then shuts down completely until you press another button or click another link. Probably like the '90's or so.

Nowadays, many Web pages expect to send you notifications or update the page if something happens on their end, even without you doing anything on your end. Even MSFN.

Nevertheless, it may be possible to force an app (such as a browser) to stop all processing when none of its windows have the focus. I'm not sure that's a good idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a program out there somewhere that does that.

Note - there is a known issue if you run this browser with a very long sub-folder file name.  Please rename the downloaded file upon download, the names here are only to distinguish their differences.

This thread is devoted primarily to WinXP and a Chromium fork based on Chromium v86.

Any discussions regarding v86 and its "age" will be reported to the mods as "disrespect" and in direct violation of Forum Rule 7.b.

7.b This community is built upon mutual respect. You are not allowed to flame other members. People who do not respect personal opinions and/or personal work will be warned in first instance. If you ignore the warning and keep on flaming, you will be banned without notice.

This project is my personal work that I share with MSFN because there is a need for a "relatively modern" web browser for use in WinXP and v86 has performed "reasonably well" in that regard.
The user-base is perfectly aware that XP will not serve 100% of our needs, that v86 will not serve 100% of our needs, we know this and accept this, we are not here to be told to "move on" from XP and what works for us in XP.
We The Community can respect this endeavor in the same manner that we respect content shared at MSFN threads devoted to Win98 and Win2000 without trolling such threads and citing "age".

Many thanks to all that continue to support this personal work.

There is a combination of several versions to choose from.
Regular versus Ungoogled  --  ungoogled intentionally breaks telemetry sent to the Chrome Web Store, this in turn breaks the "Add to Chrome" feature at the Chrome Web Store so extensions need added via other means.
WebGL enabled/disabled  --  WebGL may or may not work on older hardware, so mileage may vary.
Translation enabled/disabled  --  Chromium-based browsers have an embedded Google Translate context menu feature, I offer versions with and without this embedded feature.
WinXP / Win10 skin  --  I only use this browser in WinXP and therefore I prefer it to look-and-feel like everything else I run in WinXP.  Others prefer the more "modern" Chrome GUI and the Win10 skin attempts to please that crowd.

If anyone wants to host the older versions, that is fine by me.

Are you going to continue to update at least the latest Redux? I hope you won't abandon your project. I realize the userbase is small, but you were once determined.

Agreed; it's your Dropbox account and you can put what you want there. But folks will keep finding this thread, and this will repeat, unless you at least remove the dead links from post 1. Also, if you follow the quote above back to the original post, you'll find a link to build 2036, whose links are also dead. Please don't frustrate new would-be users!

If it were me, I'd not only remove all those dead links, but also replace them with a link to the redux thread so folks can download the "newer, improved" version.

Unfortunately I doubt there's much more that can done with 360EE. I'm just happy we have a reasonably modern (at least when beefed up with polyfills), lightweight, unGoogled Chromium for XP.
