[WIP] Windows Vista Extended Kernel

Recommended Posts

I haven't figured out how to get the Steam browser to work yet, though Chrome x64 and Firefox x64 should work easily if extracted from the installers (for the latter anyway) or downloaded as portables.

Not sure about Adware...

So i finally managed to do a clean install on my pc and install all the updates from the repo +2008 Updates. It took a whole day to install all of it but it was worth it.

Extended Kernel works amazingly well with Chromium 90. Websites load really fast and YouTube playback also works without any issues.. oh and it's great to have Aero Glass back. The only thing that is kinda buggy are some extensions that just doesn't want to install "Details: "Default locale is defined but default data couldn't be loaded."

I also tried to install Steam but it refuses to start since it detects the OS and won't install the update. (currently using my december 2018 backup i made)

@GTAGAME , adblocker works for you with this chromium 90 ? By the way , you can still use English extensions.

Hello, I have a question... Will the extended kernel work on my 32 bit laptop running x86 windows vista ultimate?

Yes but its very limited, most of the progress has been made on 64bit.

I found out that SFC replaces the extended kernel files with the original unmodified versions. Running SFC every once in a while is important, but having to replace the files after every SFC scan is tiring. Is there any way to prevent this?

No, unless MS recognizes the extended kernel files as "legitimate" and grants us the use of their authenticode signatures to sign them.

You could run sfc /verifyonly (which does not “fix” anything if I remember correctly), then check CBS log to see if anything other than extended kernel files was found, but that does sound rather tedious to me.

And it is probably tedious.. But if you want a secure and working platform you've gotta suffer, I guess.

I'm not sure about it, as it seems that .NET is a bit of a black hole as far as Vista is concerned. Versions 4.6.2 and above have some antipathy to Vista in some way, and I have trouble figuring it out.
