I hope it becomes completely error-free soon! Glad that you fixed your issue, and cleaned up your partition. :)

I have just opened the program again, and the error when closing the program window seems to have disappeared. Possibly an incompatibility with another program or module. In the last few days, I have uninstalled various useless programs and cleaned up a few errors. PasserAspirateur.gif Maybe a reason! :dubbio: Anyway! Now, my main Windows XP partition is almost error-free. :P

FYI, unfortunately, the error did not disappear when closing the program window of SpywareBlasternimportequoi.gif It still occurs unless you close the program window directly after updating the protection database. Only in this case, the error does not occur. jexplique.gif

Hello, is there a list of updated antivirus and antispyware for XP?

AFAIAA, unfortunately not. But the last months, I have presented  some different antivirus or antimalware programs here in the thread and disseminated information about them, all still working under Windows XP.

I am looking for an antispyware type "adwcleaner", do you recommend any?
I have downloaded Zemana which claims to be compatible with XP but it really doesn't seem to be.

There is a list for Windows Vista, maybe for XP it will be similar

This thread is about antivirus programs targeting Windows XP SP3 only. Posting a list of antivirus programs targeting Windows Vista is not really helpful and rather misleading. There are a lot of versions inside this list which won't work under Windows XP SP3. Anyway!I know this list but it doesn't belong here. At least, you should change the headline to "AntiVirus & Security Software for Windows Vista". To answer your question, Malwarebytes Free v3.5.1 should serve perfectly your needs. I use Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1 under Windows XP. It is the last version for Windows XP but still receives definition updates. Its detection rate is very good. Only the premium version has a background guard.

ok, I delete the list and leave the link.
My interest was to get a list by editing that one.

A new topic by AstroSkipper that begins with a list might be an excellent idea!  :w00t: There has been some good discussion in this thread, but let’s face it: Nobody is going to read 48 pages.

The download link for Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2 in the list for Vista still works, and that version also supported XP. Edit: Discussion below demonstrates that 7.4.2 did not support XP, and only an old database is available for Vista. :blushing:

This article below by MB:

https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039579393-Windows-XP-and-Vista-compatibility-with-Malwarebytes-AdwCleaner

hints that "Versions before 8.0 may still work on a Windows XP", emphasis (mine ;)) put on "may"... FWIW, I have local records kept that indicate that the XP_EoS version of Malwarebytes AdwCleaner is/was v6.047 :

6r7Fylm.png

There doesn't exist a GUI button to update the "database", only an "option" to use the "local" or the "server" one:

TWCRjqw.png

I did perform a quick scan with the default setting of "server"; I had to open the log file to, sadly, find out that only the extremely outdated "local" database was used for the scan:

# AdwCleaner v6.047 - Logfile created 26/04/2023 at 00:25:03
# Updated on 19/05/2017 by Malwarebytes
# Database : 2017-05-19.1 [Local]
# Operating System : Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Service Pack 2 (X86)
# Username : (redacted)
# Running from : (redacted)\adwcleaner_6.047[XPEOL].exe
# Mode: Scan
# Support : https://www.malwarebytes.com/support

I don't have an XP machine available currently to check whether v7.4.2 does, indeed, launch there :dubbio:; that version does launch under Vista SP2 x86 - incidentally, it offers to update the app to v8.4.0, but that offer should be declined, as (consistent with the article I linked above) that one doesn't launch under Vista :( (so why offer it in the first place? :realmad: ) ...

Like its predecessor, v7.4.2 has a default setting of "Automatically using the cloud database if available":

BIQUAAa.png

I performed a second scan with v7.4.2, its log file now reads that it used a "database" from Oct 10th 2022, i.e. a stale one from 6 1/2 months ago (!) :

# -------------------------------
# Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2.0
# -------------------------------
# Build: 10-21-2019
# Database: 2022-10-10.1 (Cloud)
# Support: https://www.malwarebytes.com/support
#
# -------------------------------
# Mode: Scan
# -------------------------------
# Start: 04-26-2023
# Duration: 00:00:35
# OS: Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium
# Scanned: 32074

So, I don't know what to make of that :dubbio:, certainly can't answer whether that is considered as "definitions still provided for it"; "use at your own risk" would be my advice :) ...

Very good examination! As Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2.0 use the database from Oct 10th 2022 under Windows Vista, then it will most probably use the same database under Windows XP. Anyway! I assume there won't be any more recent database for this version in the future due to the lack of updates in the cloud for more than 6 months. :(

... Still, someone on XP will have to verify whether v7.4.2 does launch there (and was hoping you'd be the one :P ...) :dubbio:; and just because it did download the 2022-10-10.1 (cloud) database in my Vista SP2 32-bit machine, it doesn't necessarily mean it will do so under XP; AFAICT, the app uses Windows' native APIs to connect to its (cloud) server; my Vista OS has WS2008 updates installed, which gave it TLS v1.1+v1.2 support, plus associated cipher suites that are not present even in a POSReady updated XP machine... As always, "the proof is in the pudding" ;) ...

Yep, you're right! The proof is in the pudding. When I wrote my comment, I was on my couch using an Android tablet. Now, I am back at my Windows XP desktop computer. Although stated as XP-compatible on their website, Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2.0 is unfortunately not compatible with Windows XP anymore. It can't be installed.

Can confirm, this is the error that appears  :realmad::

adwcleanerxp.png

The last version adwcleaner for XP is 6.047 (2017-05-19)
https://download.toolslib.net/download/file/1/851?s=gP7VLih67fmmhqhqfLTpmYQR0FtB2J4p
and it does not have a cloud version.
In 7.4.2 before to see the error message in user32.dll I had to download and attach the dwmapi.dll v. 6.0.5384.4 to executable file.
