Latest Version of Software Running on XP

@Rod Steel

I extracted the installer, launched d3dGear directly and got it to display the splash screen, but then got error about missing install date in registry.

I had v.4.31 expired trial from some years ago, so no point in trying to install this one here.

If you happen to have Cameyo packager, you could try making a package in a VM and running that on your system. If the packager captures the install timestamp, you should be able to run it for 15 days.

Something is not right.
The previous version of PotPlayer that works in my XP came out on February 09

It would appear that the Korean archive above does not hold all released versions, however, thankfully ;) , the archive maintained by the well-known site "www.videohelp.com" does :

https://www.videohelp.com/software/PotPlayer/old-versions

It does, indeed, contain the version mentioned by @Sampei.Nihira :

Quote

PotPlayerSetup64-210209.exe 2021-02-09 29.7MB

PotPlayerSetup-210209.exe 2021-02-09 29.2MB

PotPlayerPortable64-210209.zip 2021-02-09 54.6MB

PotPlayerPortable-210209.zip 2021-02-09 51.8MB

:) ; BTW, I have no affiliation whatsoever with linked site, I have not tested myself the validity & well-functioning (under XP) of referenced builds/packages, use your common sense when downloading and installing... ;)

Unfortunately, the versions you mentioned of VideoHelp are not compatible with Windows XP.
You will notice that they have included the file for the latest XP compatible version (1.7.17508).

I have in my HD the file below, I put it at the disposal of the members of MSFN:

PotplayerSetup.exe v.1.7.21419.0 - 210209

My dear @Sampei.Nihira, I beg to differ... Have you tried the 32-bit files yourself?
You are usually correct 99% of the times :), but this is just the 1% you're not :P ...

I have downloaded myself the "videohelp" file

https://www.videohelp.com/download/PotPlayerSetup-210209.exe

and afterwards the one you uploaded yourself

http://www.filedropper.com/potplayersetup

and you know what? They're completely identical (with the very same digital signature) :

Please, kindly check yourself the 210219 (32-bit) referenced VideoHelp archive files (setup/portable) and please retract...
It's enough having been recently accused that 70% of my (5-year-long) post count is OT, I don't want to be also accused of spreading untruths... :(

Kind regards :)

Installation of the new version of PotPlayer 210318 (March 18, 2021) crashes with an error pop-up.

If any MSFN member wants to perform a test installation please take the necessary precautions.

I'm curious to what's the error popup? Is it wrt to a missing library or it's a program generated soft block?

:dubbio::yes:

I have not personally verified this.

Videohelp shows an old version compatible with Windows XP, so logic dictates that newer versions are incompatible.

Note also that the softhouse explicitly states that the latest versions are compatible with Windows XP (while compatibility with Win 10 is not stated):

Both websites then made a mistake if only in communication.

A software installation freeze.

Which forced me to terminate the process via the Windows Task Manager.
I don't remember the sequence of successive events that generated the error.

You'll notice that these days I've been doing other things, and I'm also collaborating with the SUMO developer to try to fix some software errors in Windows XP.

I hope some MSFN member will attempt the installation.

For video amateurs

Hi everybody,

MediaInfo is an excellent information tool on the files (video or audio) that we handle (no problem for me on XP, for years, with their 32bit GUI version without installer).
=> The recent version 21.03 (2021-03-26) is announced as the latest compatible with Windows XP ...

Does it still need a system with SSE2 support?

I am stuck on a version from 2015 because of this...

Do you use version 1.6.63262?

It does not appear that the latest versions are compatible with non-SSE2 CPUs.

The About box says v.1.6.57398, but i am not sure if this is correct. I had to use older files (PotPlayerMini.exe, maybe others too, i forgot) to make it work. PotPlayer.dll is this version, while uninstall.exe is v.1.6.63840

Install the version 1.6.63262:

The improvements with the versions following the one you installed are obvious:

Boo! :(

I've been using that for years, it's incredibly useful if you do a lot of work with videos from many different sources, especially with its Explorer integration.

It hasn't been updated that often recently though, it used to be updated at least every month, so I guess they're not finding much to add to it now so the last XP version won't become problematic anytime soon.

... Which was exactly the point of my post; you were quick to dismiss the info I posted here, out of pure courtesy to my XP friends :), without first verifying it yourself (and making me look "bad" along the way... :().

FTR, I didn't direct XP members to a random "videohelp" URL, but specifically to

https://www.videohelp.com/software/PotPlayer/old-versions

and, more accurately, to

Quote

VideoHelp being a third party provider, I did not want initially to post direct links to packages (Forum rule 1.b), but I have now done so above, for XP-members' convenience; to the best of my knowledge, these are original/unaltered/official binaries being re-hosted (and the 21-02-09 builds not to be found on vendor's site).

You declined my plea to test for yourself; for closure, can another kind soul that happens to use XP SP3 32-bit (SSE2) please check those builds above and verify they indeed install and work OK (so this issue could be put to rest...) ? @FranceBB (from memory I recall as being an avid PotPlayer enthusiast), would you oblige? :)
